A cute little museum that gives you a glimpse into the past. Cowboys, ranchers, rodeos, all the things that shaped the Central Valley. If you visit at the right time, there are some very cheerful 12 year old tour guides that will very enthusiastically share their knowledge of all things cowboy. It's small and probably won't take more than 30 minutes to get through, and that's if you read all the signs. Glad I dropped in.

The Central Valley? Ugh; speed through so you can get to the mountains as fast as you can. A cowboy museum just doesn't seem to fit in a little farm town. It's only when you drive through Oakdale that you see that it does fit here like an old boot. On the surface, this is obviously cowboy country: the Feed & Seed, several western wear stores, the pro rodeo arena, and half the cars on the road are 2-ton trucks. It's actually the typical stores near the rodeo arena (CVS, Big 5, Raley's, Round Table Pizza) that feel out of place in this town. Then you find out that there are so many pro rodeo people who have put roots down within 10 miles of this burg, and now you understand why it calls itself the Cowboy Capital Of The World. Knowing this, and having grown up in a town just down the highway, I knew that my Texas-native hunny would love the Cowboy Museum. And boy howdy, did she ever. She was reading up on the local heroes, smiled at the pic of President Reagan being presented with a PRCA pin, got a kick out of the dozen saddles on loan, admired the Remington paintings. As for me, this is authentic, the real deal, not a hokey Disney version. Valuable information about local ranches that have been in the same family since the late 1800s. Several photos and paintings of residents in years past screamed "lifelong local rancher". They even have a section on the wall for Cricket, the late beloved horse who smiled at the traffic speeding around that curve on 108/120 near Lover's Leap. Overall, the museum is a fascinating introduction to cowboy culture in general and immersion into the local culture in particular. Very convenient location, in the old railroad depot in the center of town. And no need to travel to Laramie WY: it's less than 100 miles from the Bay Area. A must-visit when you travel through.

What a great piece of local history. Name doesn't do it justice. I will be updating this review ASAP, and adding photos. This small building is packed with memorabilia. It tells the history of Oakdale, including the discovery of gold back in the 1800's. I strongly recommend taking a knowledgeable person with you to appreciate the history being displayed. Their hours of operation are limited. While parking is extremely limited, you can park in the lot just East of the museum across the street. The property owner is the owner of the H-B Saloon and has given express permission to do so. Why not, that has you parked where you will want to stop for a meal or drink or both, after visiting the museum. Please read my H-B Saloon review. Be sure to take one of the "Oakdale California - cowboy Capital of the World" brochures. It is filled with useful and interesting information.

WOW has always been a favorite for our family, but this event really brought the whole community together. The museum was full of energy with kids running from activity to activity, experimenting, building, and just having fun learning without even realizing it. The raffle baskets were fantastic and way bigger than I expected. You could tell local businesses and supporters really showed up for this event. There were vendors set up, tons of hands on activities throughout the museum, and yes, free popcorn which automatically makes any kid event a win. What I love most about WOW is that it never feels overwhelming or overly structured. Kids are encouraged to explore, touch everything, and be curious. You can easily spend a few hours here and still not see it all. It is such an important space for downtown Lodi and a great reminder of how valuable places like this are for families. Fun, educational, and genuinely community-driven. We had a blast celebrating with the WOW museum!

The air flow area where children can use air to make beach balls float and color scarves shoot through vacuum tubes and fly. There are a couple areas that alternate themes and activities. There are family bathrooms. There's a low stimulation room if your child needs a sensory break. This room also doubles as a nursing room. Every single employee is incredibly kind and helpful. I loved MoChiMu so much that I got my 1 year old a membership for her first birthday so now are regular and attended our first story time at closing the other night. We mostly stay in the little rainbows area that is specifically for children 0-3. They can climb, play with light projector to make colorful projections on the wall, manipulate the giant colorful light bright wall, read books, or rock or bounce on the other movement toys. The museum is probably ideal for kids when they start crawling and seeking movement to maybe 7/8 depending on the child's interests and developmental age. My baby loved watching other children and listening them talk and play at around 6 months, and now she's climbing all over the little rainbows area and walking around to look at and explore the rest of the museum. We took the van to the castle but they don't drop you off directly in front of the castle so you still have to walk down through security and then to the castle. Porte potty's are available right before security and once you walk up the hill to wait in line to enter the castle. There were a couple food trucks when we went, we were expecting a few based on what was said online but not sure if it depends on the time. We waited over an hour in line to enter the haunted house and if you do really believe in ghosts this place is pretty haunted. The event itself wasn't scary, the actors aren't able to touch you but there's obviously loud screaming and they may be a bit too close for comfort to get a reaction out of you. You do have to climb up and down quite a few stairs and then there's a second part lead outside and back in the castle (barely any lighting and it's a dirt road so you have to carefully walk). Many strobing lights as well so do avoid if you are triggered by that. The energy throughout the castle was not pleasant or welcoming, I was very excited for it to be over as the haunted house itself was not very good and I was mostly tired from all the walking. There's a merch truck outside at the end of the castle as well. We also decided to walk back instead of waiting for the shuttle but there absolutely no lighting and many ditches with uneven flooring so you have to be very careful. Overall experience was not my favorite and I wouldn't come back again.

This year's haunt felt longer with even more scares tucked around the corners--right up my alley! Preston keeps stepping it up, and I'm here for it. Until next year, Castle... we'll be back.

We received a night guard evidence log when we checked in at the front desk! Right before that, we were welcomed by a greeter who opened the door for us. They had nine exhibits with stamps from the people dressed in period or historical costumes. They each gave a little demo or speech about the exhibit they were in. They were all so friendly, and interactive. It really made the scenes come to life! One exhibit was trying to get gold out of the clay rocks, to turn into the cashier for play money, which in turn one could "buy" real candy. I had such a wonderful time. I hope they do this activity again, sometime soon. It would be fun to know about it way in advance, so I could dress up too. That would be really fun! A polite yet confident, friendly yet proud personality, Tim gave my girlfriend and I the museum experience of a century. Arriving at the museum, we were greeted by a docent at the entry who was quite kind to us and we enjoyed the initial room and science/medicine rooms - however, if you're the type who reads every line at a museum, you will enjoy it more than we did because the information was IMMENSE. Too much for my adhd brain, but perfect for an avid reader. But it was the carriage house that floored us. Tim greeted us nearly the moment we stepped through the doors to introduce himself as a volunteer at the museum. I figured he may give us a little intro and then let us parouse the 10,000sf facility but boy was I wrong. Tim proceeded to give us a guided private tour for what was easily the good part of an hour. Carriage by carriage, phonograph by phonograph, Tim passionately spoke on the most interesting history, anecdotes, untold tales, and intriguing facts about every item in front of us. It was as if he had plugged himself into the knowledge of the universe and was translating its binary into English for us to understand. I loved every moment and most importantly, I could see that HE loved every moment. We walked out having to look at our tickets to see if we had accidentally purchased VIP guided tour tickets.
