In the middle of our meal I noticed things moving on the walls. A family of cockroaches coming out from behind the booth. WTF?! It made our skin crawl to sit in that cesspool, so we quickly ate up (while closely expecting every bite). Had to pay 23 quid for it, which is IMO unjustifiably high for fast food. As I was paying I informed the waitress of the infestation problem, and she just brushed it off as a constant issue. No apology whatsoever. Disgusting place.

Monday's they have just started to do an event based around guest speakers and showcasing hip hop music videos; choosing their favourites and showing them why. I love an event where you learn or simply have fun. So though it's not a place is typically hang out because of the crowded small space, the hip hop vibe it clearly favours is something I feel is always missing with London and I embrace when I find.

The venue is host to many of the rock / hardcore bands of the local scene. The venue is situated behind the bar and has it's own little vibe where you can stand or sit and watch bands and share a drink. Although there's nothing wrong with this place, it's a little out of the way for me. Unless my friends are down there or I'm in Kingston shopping or meeting someone, then there's no real reason for me to go there really. There are lots of even better little music venues in central London. A one-off is fine, but perhaps not somewhere to go especially to have a drink...

However, the security guard at the front door didn't want to let us in because he thought we were too drunk. This was far from the truth and was proven by the fact that a few minutes later one of his colleagues let us in finally without any problems. We ordered two beers that we wanted to drink in peace whilst listening to good music. This couldn't happen due to the first doorman showed up. He abused us verbally and physically, shouted at us, was aggressive and incomprehensibly angry. He intentionally poured our drinks on the floor and on us, smashed the glasses. I normally don't write reviews like this and I worked in hospitality too. I don't agree that the customer is always right. But I've never experienced such rudeness. I've never experienced someone abusing their perceived 'power' like this. I've never felt so humiliated in a venue. We were absolutely harmless, didn't hurt or provoke anyone, just wanted to drink our drinks we paid for. We were shocked by this situation and other people around us didn't get this either. It was absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable. We may not have been sympathetic to him for any reason but this can't be an excuse for his horrible behaviour, we were paying guests. I also can imagine he was unwilling to let us in close to closing time (11 PM ish) even though we had no intention of sleeping there. We just wanted to spend a pleasant night in a good place and traveled a lot for it. Instead we had awful time there. There's no way I would recommend this place after what happened and I only hope there will be consequences because it says a lot about the management how they handle this. I'd prefer not to give a single star but the site doesn't let me send my review without it. There are way better places in London for those people who love rock and metal music.

On going to the toilets downstairs, I saw a huge function room, which I understand is a populr disco. Despite appearing invisible for several minutes, I would come back here. At Scala the staff look through your bag, do a quick pat down search and if you look young ask for ID. Unlike other venues, where if you have food or drink you have to put it in the bin, Scala use a cloakroom system for items you can't take in. At the door they give you a ticket so you can collect your food on the way out - for free. Last time I went I didn't have my ID so they gave me a green wristband, but they were very lax and said it didn't matter because I had my friend to buy me drinks anyway. The venue itself is simple - walk up some stairs and there's the bar, cloakroom and merch area. Go through some doors and you're in the main stage area. Toilets are right at the top of the building and are impressively clean for a gig venue. What I love is that the stage area has a platform running round the edges and a lowered pit in the centre. This means that whether you're into moshing, dancing or just appreciating the sweet sound you can find an area to stand. Usually I go in the lowered floor and dance about but most recently I stood on one of the raised areas. Where I was stood just happened to be next to the stage door so I had the band standing right behind me watching the support acts. Such a friendly and intimate vibe. I haven't yet been to a club night here but for live music this venue is brilliant.

It's something that I will always admire about that night. The music was obviously my taste and they played so many great songs. The karaoke was an incredible addition to a party like this. People were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The drinks were great too! However despite that, I give it 4 stars because I went alone, and that's my problem in itself. I'm personally dealing with loneliness and depression, and going to these places is my escape in a way. I've met a few new people which is great! Gives me a bit of a step closer out of my comfort zone. People ask me if I'm okay, I tell them I am, had a few drinks, but I need to stop going to these by myself. It's not the kind of party to go alone in. I just have a hard time meeting new people, especially from personal trauma
