A friend and I sweated our way through both floors of the gallery because they had some interesting pieces, but it was cooler outside in the breeze. That being said, this gallery has an eclectic selection of paintings, prints and sculptures, including some lifelike and life-size sculptures and more abstract pieces. Some of the "art" was so immersed in pop culture (a painting based on the Family Guy cartoon? Puh-leez...) that I thought it was kind of junky. However, I liked a lot of the paintings and almost all the sculptures, including some great bronze sculptures by Yuroz. The building itself is pretty cool, too. There's a glass atrium at one side where some sculptures are on display, and there's a spiral staircase up to the second floor.

The tour of the house was guided and it was just two of us and the guide. The guide had a wealth of knowledge and we appreciated what she had to say about the house and the Sharp family. One interesting and impressive fact, their well was inside the house. This way they didn't have to go out in Michigan winters to get their water. My daughter is a big fan of old homes especially Victorian style homes. While it's a Victorian style house it also had Italian influences in the structure. The art gallery had a World War I exhibit (100 year anniversary), sculptures and a quilt exhibit.

This is a nice museum! Free admission on Saturdays. Individual galleries that feature world…read morerenowned artists on a rotating basis, plus permanent displays which highlight local innovators, artists and such. Art from the local Jackson County Artist Association is prominently displayed (boy, do they have some great artists here!). It was a great experience to do this together. Two hour time was perfect. Good instruction and great supplies. I love the colors and getting creative though this is not my wheelhouse, it was still a lot of fun. Classes are very affordable. The instruction was great and gave me some ideas to play with layering. I had a little problem with using a gift card but they were great in the office to get us signed up and squared away. We'll definitely be back!
