    Bathroom needs some help.

Date of visit: July 12, 2024 We stopped here on the way down to South Carolina for a funeral. I was looking for something simple and easy, comfort food given the reason for our visit down south. The cafe is not very large, or very fancy, but the staff was incredibly accommodating, including providing some things to do for the little ones in our group that were starting to get restless. The food was just okay, and while not really anything that I couldn't have done at home, the price was good and the location is in the middle of a super cute downtown area that reminded me of the town from Back to the Future (it's that cute!). One downside? The bathroom reminds me of something out of a lower-end gas station and definitely needs some help.

Just opened!!! The Cupboard is the diner located in Cowan's Drugstore on the Square in Lebanon (replacing Max's Cupboard which closed last December). The small dining room has had a face lift with fresh floor, paint and table cloths, but maintains the small town charm of a locally owned business. One of the co-owners, Dan Cheech was cooking during our visit. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and offers daily specials. They bake fresh pies, scones and cinnamon rolls daily. You can get a burger, tenderloin or chicken sandwich but the show stopper was the BLT, which is generously covered in "B". I had the Crispy Chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken was breast meat in a very crispy batter served on a fresh brioche roll. The fries were crispy crinkle cuts and I was happy they were lightly salted. The daily special was a Sloppy Joe with fries for $8. The sandwich was served on a brioche roll with a generous portion of sloppy Joe and fries on the side. The Lemon Custard pie was homemade with a light crust and very sweet with a light cream topping. Service was great, Caitlyn checked on us frequently. Food and beverages came out quickly. The place filled up quickly with locals, so get there early. They do pick-up orders if you want. Parking can be tough, but you can usually find a spot on the square.

The Cubbard serves a very satisfying BLT. The menu description states six strips of bacon, but the lettuce and tomato were straining to be seen past the mound of bacon on this sandwich. What a perfectly proportioned amount of ingredients between to delicious slices of bread. The accompanying fries were crinkle cut, hot and plentiful. The service was great and quick. The dining area is cozy and comfortable in that you feel like one of the regular customers. Next time I need to try the "Daily Special", which seems to fly out of the kitchen.

There is a family side dining room as well as the other side of the building appears to be a 21+ bar. The family side Had a decent amount of seating. We ordered a variety of items, including the BLT, which was very tasty on sourdough, they were willing to make me a grilled chicken tenders instead of fried along with their shoestring french fries, very tasty. The kids were pretty happy with the mac & cheese, although it looks like it was just Kraft- And they split one of the grilled cheese, which looked amazing. We had one order of pizza as well- it is a hand tossed crust versus thin. And the ham and cheese grill was also very good. Service was pretty slow, but when we told them we were trying to get to the show they picked up the pace a bit this place has been here for a long time, so I'm not sure why it doesn't already have a Yelp profile but I did go ahead and add one because this should be on your radar if you are anywhere near Lebanon. I appreciate the fact you're willing to make me something not fried :) The menus they have posted online do not match the menus that are in store as one person from our group was specifically looking for fried mushrooms from a prior menu It is worth a visit if you like comfort bar food!

Kate on the phone was pleasant and helpful. Once I arrived in town, walked into a smile. She checked on my order which was coming out of the oven. She checked my order, and handed it to me with a smile. The food was hot and delicious (I'll have leftovers for a couple days as this pizza is huge and filling). The breadsticks were amazing, crunchy on the outside with the right amount of butter and garlic. The inside was hot and soft. I hope the new owner keeps this on the menu! Give it a try!

We sat at the bar because they were busy and we needed to rush to get to a movie on time. The bartender was very helpful and friendly and filled our orders quickly. I got the smash burger called Austin's Way, which has Strawberry Jam, peanut butter, bacon and siracha on it and it did not disappoint! It came with fries and I also got The cherry vanilla cream soda which was delicious. My husband got the burger called Dave's Way which has the toppings of Pepper jack cheese, white queso, hand-smashed avocado, pico de gallo, lettuce & chipotle ranch. and ordered the double. Loved the decor and the vibes here. We will be back to try more items! Especially after reading that their tenderloin is award winning!

It took over an hour for a burger and two Philly cheesesteaks. My son didn't like the burger at all. The cheesesteaks were awful. A bunch of over cooked mushrooms and some cheese spooge and very little steak. What steak that was on the sandwich was over cooked ( actually burned). The hostess decided it was time to mop the floors even though there were still customers. Just an awful experience. Wish I could have the time back.

I stopped in for lunch and was served by Matthew, who was spot-on with his recommendations. When I asked for a cocktail suggestion, he recommended the Whiskey Dreams, and it did not disappoint. It was a well balanced cocktail featuring bourbon, elderflower, lavender, and orange curaçao. It was liquor forward with just the right touch of sweetness. For lunch, I ordered the steak sandwich with mashed potatoes. The sandwich was packed with flavor from the first bite. The bun was soft and buttery, the steak was juicy and tender, and the horseradish sauce tasted homemade. The cheese was perfectly melted, and it was served with fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion. If you're in Lebanon or just passing through, I highly recommend stopping here. Based on this meal, I'll definitely be back to try the prime rib.

Needless to say, our service was bad and I do not blame the waitress, who I do blame is the manager on duty. For the price of this place it is not worth it if you have a party bigger than 6-8 people. The bad thing is that the manager decided to make excuses when my wife reached out to them afterwards. If us moving the tables was a fire code violation, why not tell us this that and we would have not moved them to engage with everyone in the party.
