The Knight and The Bible. On a drive up to Chicago to catch a vacation flight, we stopped at The Cup and The Scone to get us caffeinated for the rest of the drive. We got there about 30 minutes before close and the barista was super nice as we ordered our drinks. Emily got a caramel latte and I got the.. you guessed it... an iced americano. We also grabbed a blueberry-lemon, cranberry-orange, and birthday cake scone. While we stood there as the barista was making our drinks, we chatted her up a bit and we were able to get a few free stickers from her. She said they don't use them all too much and was happy to give us two each. Once we got our drinks, we took off to the upper part of the coffeehouse and promised we wouldn't be too long since they were closing soon. Before we headed upstairs, I took some photos with the suit of armor that is by the counter. When we got upstairs, I was surprised to see another suit of armor, so I took a photo with that one, too. The Cup and The Scone specializes in a lot of gluten-free products and a small bit of religion. I don't know if their entire menu is gluten-free but as someone who's mom is gluten sensitive (and I will probably be at some point), the care about GI issues is great. As for the religious stuff, if you don't see the occasion bible strewn about the place, you'd honestly never know. But, their website seems to support helping people and I think that also is super great as this world is getting rough and scary. Any who, Emily and I really enjoyed our drinks. The americano hit all the right notes and Emily was delighted with her latte. We were split on the scones. I really liked the birthday cake while she really liked the cranberry-orange while we both thought the blueberry-lemon was just alright. We held true to our promise and dipped out before 2pm and hit the road. If I find myself in Pontiac for some reason in the future, The Cup and The Scone will definitely be my spot to get some americanos. read more

I was initially drawn to this spot by the big knight in shining armor that I saw on Yelp (I'm a big chess fan) and then pleasantly surprised at how cool this place is. The decor really makes this spot, with lots of fun themed signs throughout the restaurant. This definitely gives it a different and more fun vibe than the average coffee house and the upstairs loft is cozy to hangout in as well. The coffee flavors and preparation are quite good here -- flavorful, and made with high quality ingredients. I also enjoyed the mini scones, with a nice texture that was soft but a little more firm than a muffin. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you're in Pontiac. The Cup and the Scone is a great coffee shop and bakery in Pontiac, Illinois. It's very welcoming and has a ton of seating, including balcony seating. They had several fall seasonal drinks to try. I had the Apple Pie milk while my husband ordered the Pumpkin Patch latte. They were tremendous. The barista was able to experiment with new flavors and then suggest then to the manager for addition to the menu. We also sampled a few of the scones, since it's in the title of the establishment. Came here for study! It was a perfect place for long time work. I had two scones this afternoon, one was the everything one and the other was the cranberry-orange one. Both were good! I love this little gem. I don't drink coffee, however the quiche is so delicious. My best friend brought me her, as she loves the coffee. States it's the best in town. It's really a quaint shop. This is a charming coffeehouse with a friendly host. He said he and his wife retired (young! ) and went on a European tour that included coffee as one of their quests. They returned home and decided to open their own place! His wife makes the scones which are delicious. We tried the cranberry orange. It has a perfect scone texture and the right amount of sweetness. RRR got the Black Baron which is basically a mocha and he really liked it. I got a dirty Chai which was just ok, not quite too my personal taste, a bit too sweet for me. And the coffee was great I love how open the place is without being echoey also you must try the scones they are just the right size to try a couple different flavors and not be stuffed and they are the first scones I have had in a while that aren't super artificially sweet. In a region that isn't especially known for great coffeehouses, The Cup and the Scone is a much needed gem. It has filled a void for me while I've been living here temporarily, after having lived in the Boston area for most of my life. The quality and taste of their drip coffee is unlike anything else in the area, and it's definitely in my top 5 of all time. It's smooth and just bold enough without being too burnt, earthy or acidic. They offer an interesting and wide array of espresso drinks, and they also make a mean chai latte. But my favorite aspect of this coffeehouse is the ambience. It's spacious and comfortable, and it features a chill loft area that feels like a cozy little hideaway. The design and decor are modern and soothing, and it's never a hectic or crowded place like the coffeehouses in Bloomington/Normal tend to be. It's definitely worth the extra 10 minute drive for me. Also, the staff have all been really friendly, knowledgeable about coffee, and laid back. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in the general central Illinois area looking for a great up of coffee and a warm, inviting place to drink it. read more

And as a coffee house, the selection of coffee, lattes, and teas were great! Had never heard of a Groke (basically a GF ice cream sundae in a cup) but the hot fudge/choc cake was awesome). We stopped in for a quick breather between museums. The owner, a veteran, was immediately captivating and wanting to please. He patiently explained his parfaits and yogurts. Our friends got a chocolate cake parfait and a small sweet. I got an iced espresso with cinnamon, Honey, and milk. My husband got a scotcharoo parfait. We got a veterans discount. I love this place. It's an oasis in the desert of central Illinois for coffee lovers. It serves all the Epicurean desires any aficionado would like, except I don't think they had soy milk and the place smelled dank as a farmhouse basement.
