Quick stop for a quick pick-me-up…read more I've always known about this place and actually came here for a Christmas-themed sample party with my friend Maria back in winter of 2024 but knew I would need to come back and visit it properly. Finally came that time on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. I thought there was a small coffee menu from my prior visit but alas, the owner only makes brewed coffee by request. Emily and I both needed some caffeine so we requested a cup of their normal coffee, despite being offered a flavored one to pick from, too. The owner was super nice and friendly while we sat there and waited for the coffee to brew. We got our coffee and were offered free refills, which we took her up on before leaving. We decided to sit there for a bit to let the caffeine hit before we hit the town for some antiquing and thrifting. For it being drip coffee, it may have been the best I've had in a looong time. I put a little sugar in there and it was the perfect blend of smooth, flavor, and caffeine. They do sell syrups but I am not sure how much tweaking of drip coffee they offer, which is fine with me since I usually like my coffee black. Despite the small size of the dining area, this place is very cozy. It has the vibe and feel of someone who has been dreaming of a tea room since childhood. They have little knick knacks and various other things for sale besides coffee and a food menu. Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind popping in for a lunch sometime to see how that is. Any who, if you need a cozy little place for a cup of good coffee and possibly a good meal, Emerald Tea Room might just be that thing for ya.

It's a big open room and the date we were there it was slow so we didn't have to contend with much noise. Each table is set with flowers and pretty napkins as well as a little saying plaque. We were greeted promptly by a friendly waitress who took our drink order. They have a terrific variety of teas both hot and iced and my spiced iced chai was scrumptious. My entree was the fruity turkey sandwich which was nice turkey lunch meat, Swiss cheese, Craisins and a nice mix of greens with a yummy fruit spread. The bread was nice and soft and it was a generous portion. I got a side salad with it which was a splendid assortment of different greens and beautifully cut zucchini. The Italian vinaigrette was underwhelming though, next time, I'll try a different dressing. The soup of the day was this decadent creamy potato concoction with bacon on top which my dining companion had oh, she let me taste it oh, it was a meal all to itself! But she didn't quit there, she also got their pulled pork sandwich oh, she has gluten allergies so it came on gluten free bread and because the bread was small slices, the kitchen actually brought her out what amounted to almost two sandwiches. She liked it! They offered about eight different things for dessert and I tried the pecan pie. It was different from what I was expecting, chopped pecans and cream layer of some sort. It wasn't really to my taste. I should mention that the plates are served beautifully and each of us had a fruit skewer that just added to the whole thing. They have an area off the main dining room where a group of about 12 could sit with some privacy although it's near the kitchen so not the same Ambiance as the main dining room. It's a shame to see the negative reviews, that was certainly not our experience today.

Good service and lots of tea-themed gifts in the gift shop area. Well worth a visit and I am looking forward to my next trip through the area.

Had to pay extra for additional. Creme was the size of a dot, butter a dime and preserves were barely one teaspoon. For the expense of tea service, you should really cover what your guests needs are. Tea was excellent, although they now changed their policy on tea service and you only get two choices, when prior it was more. Probably due to the economy.

Our family had an amazing time. The food was excellent. We started with a zucchini soup (loved it!). Daughter has a chilled strawberry soup (it was great, like a smoothie w/ cream topped). I had the jammy bird. Fantastic! The jalapeño raspberry jam complimented the candies pecans, turkey & cheddar. Very filling. My wife had the pesto turkey (it was recommended warm). Our daughter did the cheese flat bread. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Teas were excellent. I tried the hot cinnamon spice (my go to didn't disappoint) and tried a recommended Tower of London. Excellent recommendation. My wife enjoyed the Chocolate Chai Supreme and the Tower of London too. We tried a blueberry lemon scone that the three of us shared. Everything is made fresh and in-house and I could tell. Everything was very flavorful. It was a great brunch experience for us. Since we came between "tea times" we were able to meet the owner (was in that day). There was also a special guest there and decided to take the opportunity to get a quick pic w/ the Queen. Loved the owners story (on the front of her menus). Definitely will be going out and have a few friends I know would love it! They have a guest book and noticed people come from all over to visit. I live in Shorewood and didn't realize we had this gem in our back yard. You can tell The Royal Tea Room is a labor of love. We'll be back!

3.5 Stars rounded up to 4.0…read more A very unique dining experience in that this is in what was once a Methodist Church that was built in 1909. There are large stained glass windows and a beautiful interior with high ceilings. The employees are all friendly and polite. The menu is constructed in 3 categories of: "Tier 1" (main entree) "Tier 2" (sides) "Tier 3" (desserts) You order what you want from each Tier for a set price of $23.50. When the server brings your order out to the table it's arranged on a tower holding 3 plates with Tier 1 being the bottom one, Tier 2 the middle one, and finally Tier 3 (your dessert) the top one. It's rather impressive I admit. I chose The Rubie Panini for my Tier 1 choice. It's corned beef, swiss & havarti cheeses with apple & red cabbage sauerkraut & a creamy house-made horseradish-roasted red pepper dressing on light rye bread. It was delicious with just right amount of horseradish to give it a nice bite! For my Tier 2, I chose the Herb Infused Tomato Bisque Soup (GF). It's a savory infusion of tomatoes & aromatic herbs blended to velvety smooth, finished with a dollop of herbed cream cheese and accompanied by a cheesy crostini on the side. Although I found this tasty it was not hot - only mildly warm which was disappointing. For my Tier 3, I chose the Black Forest Pavlova (GF). It's baked meringue with dark chocolate pot de crème and brandied cherry sauce. It was quite sweet and delicious!! To drink I ordered coffee, black (tyvm). It was hot and very good and served in a very nice china cup. Sadly our server didn't come back around to check on our drinks so 3 out of our party of 4 never received a coffee refill until we had finished our first 2 Tiers and was well into our desserts. When she did finally come back with the coffee pot it only had about a quarter of coffee left in it. I ended up with only about a third of a cup (from the bottom of the pot). She said she would come right back with a fresh pot but by the time she did, everyone was finished with their dessert. A good experience with just some minor things that kept it from being a 5 star review. Hours are 11am - 2pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, closed on Sundays and Mondays. Reservations are suggested.

The server was very friendly and the food was well-priced, but I had to knock off a star for a few things. First of all, of the four desserts on the menu, two were sold out and the dining room was only half full at lunch, so, I'm not sure what happened there. Secondly, for a tearoom, the tea was just standard teabags in normal flavors. I guess I would've liked a little variety there. Third, the food was just fine. I ordered a sandwich which was just a BLT with pepper mayo, I think, but it wasn't that exciting. The potatoes were good for a side, though! Anyway, like I said, the atmosphere was my favorite part!
