Housekeeping Issues & Broken Promises I am a loyal Marriott customer who LOVES Autograph Collection properties -- so I was excited to stay at The Current Hotel, Autograph Collection in Tampa this week (Checked in Tuesday, checked out Friday, Room 714). The property itself is beautiful, the views are great, and the staff at check-in were friendly and professional. My room was satisfactory and the amenities appeared to match what I expect from an Autograph Collection hotel. Unfortunately, my stay quickly became very disappointing.

What an absolutely fantastic hotel! My company recently began having our layovers here and the great thing about this hotel is everything you need is inside. They have a store inside. We're not only are we offered a discount but the prices are low. There's a full bar. There are three restaurants and a 24 hour coffee shop. 24 hours for a coffee shop is insane in regular life, but having it in a hotel is fantastic! While the pool was beautiful, at this time it's closed for renovation. There's artwork all around that list who the artist is, and if you want, you can purchase it. Which I thought was super cool. The rooms are giant. I'm talking. These had to be one bedroom apartment apartments at some point. I've never had a bigger hotel room in the city. The one thing I loved about the rooms was although it was extremely spacious it didn't feel like they made it that way so that it would be empty. The space was well taken care of and used. There was a nice lounge that I lay on to do some work. There was a desk. There's a safe located inside the desk as well as a full-size closet a large mini fridge, a giant bathroom and I had sweeping views of the Tampa Bay. But you wanna know my absolute favorite part about this hotel? The private beach! You can enter the beach by walking through the hotel out through the balcony down some steps where there are lounges and chairs as well as tables you can sit under umbrellas, or out in the sun if you're trying to get a tan. No one else can come to the beach since it designated just for the hotel. It was such a beautiful stay!

I had a beautiful room in a corner with a water view. Bed was comfy. Room clean. Makeup mirror which is always a treat! Gym was nice but no sanitary swipe the first or second day. I called the second day and they were delivered almost immediately. Very clean and everything worked. Beautiful lobby. Can walk next door to restaurant. Lobby hotel store had unique offerings. Concierge helped with inquiries. Would stay here again.

Great stay here. The room was amazing. The staff were kind and attentive. I definitely recommend a bay view if possible. The room had many amenities--robe, iron and iron board, ice maker, coffee maker, etc. I only wish there were slippers provided. Overall, great hotel in a good location.

This hotel smells amazing when you walk in. Front desk was nice and they offered champagne or wine! Nice big lobby and two restaurants to pick from. We tried Mexican and it was yummy. The gym was on the 9th floor and very spacious. The room is big and I love that they have toiletries built in.

One-night stay, business trip: The Current's stunning bay view stole the show, a perfect backdrop for a productive day. My room was clean and comfortable, everything I needed for a quick visit. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient, check-in/out was a breeze. If you're in Tampa either for business or personal you won't be disappointed. I've heard great things about the rooftop bar. Unfortunately, it was closed.

I recently stayed at the Current Hotel while traveling for business (8/19/24). As a lifetime Titanium member, I've had the pleasure of experiencing a plethora of Marriott properties. The Autograph collection of hotels were previously a top choice. Lately, some of the hotels in this collection have been hit or miss. Sadly, Current Hotel was a miss for me. The room felt unclean and was extremely worn. My understanding is that the entire hotel was recently renovated. If so, why is there was so much visible damage? I chose this hotel based on the pictures and reviews found in my Bonvoy app. I've included pictures here to show how used my room was. The price was significantly lower than expected, which was a plus (and maybe that should've been an indication). The view was wonderful, and the hotel ambiance upon entering the building was great. Based on the room condition, I'm unsure I would stay at or recommend this hotel.

Enjoyed our stay at the current. Valet, front desk and housekeeping staff was top notch. Bar service was okay. She didn't want me to stick around and order additional drinks. We enjoyed the little beach area which was a nice touch. Our room was fantastic. Great view, comfortable and sufficient space. Coffee station was well stocked. Ample space for storage. Bathroom amenities were fantastic too. I don't have to swoon over Marriott bedding right? Very comfortable. Very clean and modern furnishings. Great gym with an even better view.

Beautiful hotel, great restaurant, quick and easy valet, everyone welcoming and polite, what more could you ask for!

Restaurant next to the current hotel?

You have Casa Cami and Julian Restaurant inside. Within short steps you have the Rusty Pelican. Short car ride Whisky Joes over the water. Whisky Joes is one of my favs.

What days and what hours is the ROX Rooftop opened? It's nearly impossible to find that information. No google location, no Yelp business location. On the hotel website it does not show any of that information either.

I looked too and couldn't find it... I'd just called the hotel and ask them.

We found the room at the Marriott to be spacious, and the bathrooms similar to the JW. We found that compared to JW, the Marriott lobby was bigger, with more lounging and work station areas but also more people and noisy/lively. It has an outdoor restaurant overlooking the river, as well as a high end Mexican restaurant LONA (which I highly recommend) which provided great food and an escape from the crowds when you sit at their bar/lounge area. The outdoor restaurant/bar also had live entertainment during happy hour. What I particularly like about these 2 properties is that you can enjoy the amenities of both location by just walking accross the street via the skybridge. We went to Driftlight Steakhouse at JW in the morning for breakfast and had the buffet. The food was wonderful, service even better. We found check in to be very easy, especially since there was a dedicated reservation desk for Marriott Platinum Elite and such. It was good to have since the day we were there there was a conference/event happening that weekend. The only disappointment is the Perk Coffee and Provisions shop near the reception area, which was WAY overpriced and service slow and unfriendly. For most of their items on the shelves there was NO price. You had to ask what the price for each of the items, ranging from water to the alcohol. In summary, a very good stay at the Tampa Marriott Water street. Good alternative to JW based on the price. Also, in the future would book a balcony room with water views.

Natalia was a great bartender, she was friendly and gave the most awesome recommendations off the menu. She did not miss a beat! Randy was a fantastic host. Unfortunately, the noise level significantly impacted our stay. We were in Room 28, and directly behind the room is a hallway used by staff from the upstairs bar. Throughout the first night, we heard a heavy door repeatedly slamming and staff using rolling carts to transport trash. The noise continued until about 3:00 a.m., making it very difficult to sleep. The next morning, I expressed my concerns to the front desk. He was polite, apologized, and said he would pass the information along. However, the noise resumed again the following night. Around 11:30 p.m., I stepped into the hallway and observed someone pulling trash on one of the carts; they did not appear interested in engaging when I tried to address it. Closer to midnight, after another loud door slam, I spoke with a different staff member who was very receptive and respectful. After that conversation, the noise level did decrease. I understand that hotel operations continue behind the scenes, but for a property positioned as an upscale boutique experience, I would expect better late-night noise control -- especially in rooms directly adjacent to service areas. The hotel has a lot of potential, and the cleanliness was excellent. However, due to the repeated overnight noise disruption, I would be hesitant to stay in that location of the property again.

What really brought this down to 2 stars was what happened after checkout. Additional unwanted charges were added to my stay, and getting someone on the phone to address them was unnecessarily difficult. It took multiple attempts before I was finally able to speak with a supervisor and get the issue addressed. I've been traveling regularly and staying at Hilton properties for the past 11 years, and I've never had an experience like this. Billing a guest incorrectly once can be a mistake, but having charges appear again after checkout and then struggling to reach someone to resolve them is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. For a Hilton property, especially one in a major downtown location, I expected much better communication and attention to billing.

I wouldn't recommend walking down to the hockey center which is about 20 minutes walking at least and goes under the Selmon Expressway overpass. Some of the areas in downtown can be sketch so you will need to Uber if you don't plan on driving and parking. Housekeeping was friendly and prompt as well. The room was easily accessible from the lobby and close to the pool area. Although it took a minute to figure out how to adjust the water temperature without scalding yourself. They have a fitness center but it's up on the top floor and can be a challenge to find at first if you don't know where you're going. The signage helps a bit. It's in this spooky hallway where the court reporters were located and juries deliberated. You wonder if there were any unexplained or brutal murders that took place but I didn't feel any haunted presences nor are any brought up as an attraction. So probably not. But the gym's amenities are solid between the cardio machines and the weights available. Towels are available and a water cooler. They have a restaurant and bar that serves all three meals as well as ice cream and coffee. I only stopped there for an extra dirty, which was ok but could have been dirtier. I would stay here again.
