There's this new barber that came from out of town who does old fashion cuts and new current dew. He accepts all walk ins and will accept new clients. While you're getting your cut you can enjoy watching music videos in a clean well established environment. Ask for Anthony. 6 days a week, will work 7 depending on demand. There are plenty of other barbers who can cut in there as well. Most you have to make an appointment for. I was a walk in and Anthony cut my hair. The reason I stopped going to Nate was because the last time I went, I believe he had only been there for about a week. I went in the evening, and during my haircut, he kept stepping away to take pictures with the other barbers -- I think they were having some kind of event. The other barbers kept asking him if he was almost done, and the whole thing felt really rushed. Unfortunately, my haircut ended up uneven with several spots that weren't properly blended. read more

This barbershop is actually open on Sunday, but neither the Yelp post nor the door signage reflect Sunday open hours. We are executive professionals who made an appointment for 9 AM on Sunday morning and arrived 15 minutes early. Our definition of "family friendly" barbershop differs from the owners defination. No face masks are worn by the barbers or patrons receiving service. The shop atmosphere is like a locker room with continuous uncalled for swearing by the barbers which it isn't necessary nor appropriate when the Customers include minors in the waiting area. We would like the owners to know that the culture of their shop is offensive. Storytelling among the barbers including frequent swearing use of the F word is unnecessary and offensive. We will not come back due to the unprofessional culture in the shop. read more

Worst wait time for a hair cut. Book online and wait for more than 1 hour to still be told to wait terrible service. Barbers have friends probably dropping in and they take their time adding services yet the ones booked online are made to wait and wait longer. I used to like this place 2-3 times have visited this last time because it's last time I go here. No point in doing online booking if they make you wait even longer. read more

My Husband and I just just recently moved to Merced 2 months ago from Los Angeles. So we saw this place and went in, there were about 4 guys cutting hair a super super long line. So I went to go do errands and came later to pick my Husband up. He was Unhappy he told me he never wanted to go there again. Turns out the employees were talking to eachother about their clients and making fun of them as they left. Also, taking there super sweet time, pulling out their phones and texting every single time. Laughing loud and not focusing on the actual job, they left patches on my husbands beard where the hairs were not trimmed at all. And had no detail work, the hairs that were trimmed were all over my husbands face and ears. Not good quality work, unprofessional employees, ridiculous wait, overall not good to come back. Ever. On last Saturday I was visiting Merced, CA with my wife from San Francisco and accidentally noticed this barber shop at 1722 Canal St.. While the weather was hot (100 F) and impossible to walk on the streets I decided to have a haircut and meanwhile cool down in a air-conditioned place. Despite I didn't have an appointment one of the guys (Chris) has agreed to cut my hair which he did excellent. I can't talk about ladies but during my presence in the shop there were 3-4 more guys and they got a nice haircuts too. These young guys are skilled professionals. Well deserved 5 stars from me. Beautiful environment with nice music, good, hospitable, and extra polite employees. I'll bring my son next time I visit Merced and I recommend people to come to this shop. I got a beard line up and cut from Jose and it was done exactly how I wanted it and much detail was paid to what I had requested. The cost was on par to what I pay at other places and actually cheaper to what I'm used to paying in Southern CA. Being new to the area I had no idea where to even start with choosing a new barber shop. I attend a business crawl event for UC Merced to discover places downtown and the folks from The Cut & Shave Co. were standing outside and very friendly and gave me some free swag. So when it was time for a haircut I took a chance and walked in. I had been to other barber shops in town that were all gimmicks and poor customer service but this place was far from that. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the barber Danny was very professional and gave me an crazy good cut. This place is a must if you need a quality cut at an affordable price. The cut was $20 and they do take cards but on a barber basis so make sure to ask if the barber you get accepts cards. read more

The set up was very nice. My fiance got his hair cut and my son was thinking about cutting his but changed his mind. Its all guys and they don't censor their language throwing the f word and n word around alot they were talking about very inappropriate things and taking shots while working. Five stars... with a couple of caveats. Now these stars are earned by the cut itself. Holy hell, these guys are good, and they can cut the hell out of guy's hair. I went in with a vague sense of what I wanted and Gage, my barber, helped me without any problem. I'm not sure I've ever had a more meticulous haircut, from high-end salons to old time barber shops. Gage spent as long on working on just fading the sides than others have on the whole deal. Gage made me feel like he wanted my hair to look damn near perfect. That's the sign of a stellar barber or hair stylist. Understand that these guys take their time - when they say about an hour for a cut, they're going to use that full hour, and it's not frivolous. A couple things to note that maybe aren't as perfect, and you should be aware of before coming in, but it's still five stars, cause good lord, that haircut: - Make an appointment. I walked in first thing when they opened, midweek, and waited an hour and a half. Not complaining, the cut was worth it, but if they say it'll be a little while, trust it will be! - The website info (as of August 2018) isn't accurate, and the online booking system doesn't seem to work. Just call directly. Long story short: I live in Chicago. I visit Merced every few months. There are hundreds of places to get hair done near my home, but I'm legit planning to get my hair cut here again. read more

I really had high hopes for this one but was really disappointed. It had 4.5 stars so I was expecting to have a great experience but I just got left with a bad taste in my mouth and an expensive subpar result, I could have done a better job at home for free. We're new to Merced. Took my mixed son here for the first time thinking they could give his hair AND his face a clean a$$ cut with some dippin waves and a fresh crispy line-up. HA! I can clipper cut my son's hair at home but I'm no barber so my line-ups aren't as good as the shop (well, the shops we're used to which honestly are black barbers and maybe that's the difference...most times someone who can't cut up to par will get ran out of the shop so the likelihood of getting something so bad you could have done better at home is slim to none) and I don't have a straight razor and have never done a shave with one. None of the barbers to choose from (when we went) were black, which would be fine if they could cut, and the one guy I asked to wait for I was told no and I had to just take who they gave me. So after being "next in line" for 2 hours, it's our turn. Holy hell these people give new meaning to the word slow. They guy my son got had clearly no idea what to do with his hair or face. He couldn't get it together and ended up having to shave all the hair off his face but only after he had my son raw, bumped up and cut up all over. I'm talking bleeding folks. And at that, it wasn't even a clean shave, but a shave with an electric razor which left a face full of stubble. I was like really guy? You're just gonna leave all this stubble and call it done? Wow! I asked him to at least take all the stubble off but he just whipped out the electric razor. TF?! Any barber shop worth a damn would not do this. My son's fade was garbage, the fade line is all over the place, and what I guess is supposed to be the line-up (in the front) dips way back into the hairline then comes back out then down the side of the face. Wtaf?? Where there should be a corner (like 90° ~) there's an acute angle triangle dipping into his hairline. This barber sucks culo. $37 dollars down the drain. Told the guy "thanks for trying" to be gracious. When your customers don't say things like "looks good", "nice job", or things like that, know your work is trash. I'll be trying the other shop next time. read more

The bearded man who was to help me seemed drunk and out of it. Cussing and even offered me a drink and I'm on not even old enough to drink yet. They are a very professional team who takes care of you in every aspect from any age group and style, definitely family friendly. One special shout out to Ivan Duran.
