So glad we've found this great pub. It's probably going to become our new local, even though it's…read morehalf an hour away on the bus! It has everything you want a good pub to have. Good selection of craft beers - check Nice wines - check Places to sit, not just stand - check Live music sessions - check Friendly staff - check Delicious food - check Board games - check It also allows dogs, and they have water bowls for them if you have a dog or want to go and coo over someone else's! We went for a Sunday roast and it coincided with when they had a live jazz band playing. It's quite shabby chic, but really quite big. There's a room out the back which is more of a dining room but we stayed in the front bit as that's where the music was. It was busy but we got a table and people came and went so there was normally space for those arriving. The roast dinner was the best I've probably ever had out, certainly in London and at £12 each it wasn't bad at all. There was so much meat (we both had the lamb) and it was so tender and juicy. It had the largest, tastiest homemade Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen, crispy goose fat roast potatoes and perfectly cooked parsnip, carrots and cabbage. It had really delicious gravy too. The drinks were cheap and the jazz band were brilliant. When they weren't playing, there was a guy in the corner with decks playing LPs. There have been some comments on here from other reviewers about the toilets. The ladies were really clean and nicely decorated so may have been refurbished recently. My boyfriend went to the men's and said they weren't the best but not that bad so they may have had some work recently too. This pub is really handy for Forest Gate station and also Wanstead. We had a lovely walk around Wanstead Flats before going to the pub so there's lots to do if you travel to the area. We'll definitely be visiting a lot more.

The premises was originally an hotel - still called the Spotted Dog - handy for the railway line (the station is just a very short walk away). One of my best memories of the place was sitting down with a group of mates and drinking port - yes, port - served in a large jug at the table. Other fortified wines still feature on the alcohol menu today. Still a 'locals' pub, it's also a mix of city-smart types (I was one of them!) and the atmosphere is colourful and characterful. Maybe not a place to spend the entire evening but as a stop-over with friends (inside or outside in the courtyard) it's worth it for the port alone.

Wow, when was this picture taken??? I have never seen barking this quiet before, especially as…read morethere is barking station across the road to it!!! Anyway, this is perhaps my favourite pub that i have been to. It is situated in Barking, East London. With Barking Station being across the road, it has great access by the district, hammersmith & city and C2C lines. Dispite being in a very busy area (there are also 2 bus stations nearby and bus stops outside where around 10 different buses stop) the pub is actually quite quiet. There are 5 main area in this pub. The first is the front beer garden. With seats and tables, it is always open in the summer although quite a small area. Not my favourite place. Usually the last resort if all other seats are filled. The second is the main area, where the bar is. This is as you walk in. There are plenty of tables and chairs here wich are usually the first to get filled. The third is the back area. This is my favourite area. It has that old pub feel to it, with beer barrels and beer making instruments stuck to the walls and ceilings. There are plenty of booths here along both walls, left and right. There is a sofa area in the middle. During the days and most weekday evenings and weekends, this area is pretty quiet and is air conditioned. The forth area is the private room. I think the pub came with a small room, so they turned it into a private booth area that will seat around 6 people. The fifth is the back beer garden. This is a secluded outdoor area which is rather large. During the summer, it is a great area to sit. Its very quiet considering a tube line runs underneath. I think the main reason this pub is quiet is that there is a weatherspoons next door. As this is a very popular chain that sells food, that pub is mostly packed. I am not sure why more people do not go here. i love it. Occassionally on fridays, there are performers there, from elvis imporsonators, irish singers and various bands. The staff are great. very polite and helpful. There is also a wide range of beers, largers and ales. A great place to go for a quiet pint. Very highly recommended.

I'm a bit hesitant to write a poor review of this place as the girls here are really hardworking…read moreand as attentive as one can possibly be to hundreds of people in a day. But, the chaos I walked into on a Sunday has ensured that I never walk into a crowded pub like this again. It took almost 15 minutes to flag down one of the servers to ask about getting a table, to which I was told, "If you see a spot, grab it." As soon as I saw a couple get up I threw my stuff down- hoping it wouldn't get stolen- and went to order at the bar. That took another 5 minutes. Given how crowded it was, I ended up having to share my table with 4 other people; which wasn't bad, until I ended up getting my food more than 15 minutes after I'd ordered it, and then realized I was the only one eating at a table full of strangers. The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

About a week ago, I made the mistake of ordering some Nachos here. Honestly the saddest plate of…read moreNachos I've ever come across. The best description of it I can make is that it was that someone poured a bag of tortilla chips onto a plate, squeezed some awful American-style runny cheese over it all, then put some ready-made shop-bought guacamole on one end, what looked like ketchup but was salsa on the other end, and then the largest dollop of sour cream (almost tasted like fresh whipped cream somehow) in the middle. There was no attempts to layer anything. It was served on a baking tray which I can't really explain seeing as it was all completely cold. And they cost £12.50 which, tbh, is a disgrace. They were unfortunate to say the least. I should have sent them back but I was so hungry that I tried to make the most of it. Unrelated, but the bar staff were lovely, I'm sorry I had to give a bad review based off the food.
