The Walmer is a big pub on Ledbury Road, a 10 minute walk or so up from Notting Hill Gate tube. Downstairs it's got the look of a pretty traditional place that's always undergoing a bit of brush up and so it's fairly smart. There are some nice big tables and a few plasmas so I'd say it'd be a pretty place to watch a game, especially during the week if you want something quieter and more civilised. Upstairs there are is a nice Thai restaurant. I went the other night mid week at around 9pm and it was really packed. It's definitely no secret that this place serves up good fast Thai food from a pretty wide menu. Lots of stuff on the menu is designed for sharing so if you and a friend aren't suffering from any terrible contagious diseases this isn't a bad bet. It's also worth mentioning that The Walmer is included on many of the Top Table card offers so if you've got one of those you can get 50% off your food bill.

Following a success story of the interesting symbiosis of English pub and Thai food, Walmer Castle does not serve fish and chips but Thai! In summer you will not have a hard time finding this pub, as the locals from Notting Hill enjoy hanging outside drinking their pints. It is a lively and busy atmosphere, especially on week ends. Making your way upstairs, the first floor has been transferred into a amiable Thai place. A Thai friend took me there once and since then I kept on returning. Have you ever tried the coconut rice - it is delicious and a typical side dish. I tried to cook it myself - buy coconut milk and cook the rice in it. This place has a lot of customers coming and going, it is for a filling and quick meal after or before a couple of beers. Afterward you can check out the bars around there such as Beach Blanket Babylon or Lonsdale, just 100 metres far from Walmer Castle.

Cosy pub, nice interior, chilled atmosphere. Didn't try the food though so can't comment on that. Prices on drinks are average, so not too bad. The location isn't perfect, unfortunately! It's a long walk from any of the tube station around, so do take a bus!

Apps and a pint for lunch - yum!

This restaurant was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I ordered the beef roast, and we also shared a side of the creamy cauliflower, which was to die for. I truly cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. The service was personable and welcoming, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions and try new things. One of the managers (apologies I don't know her name) checked in on us several times and even encouraged a few of us to try additional menu items. The food came out quickly, and once it arrived, the table went completely silent because we were all too busy enjoying every bite. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting London and even the locals. A solid 10/10 experience!

I was a fish person, and I am SO HAPPY I did! The fish at this restuarant will live in my head forever. Im not joking. I live in the US and I almost want to fly back to London just to have it again. The roast looked great too, many of my friends saying the meat was great and the gravy was flavorful. The staff were ALL so friendly, even offering the charge a phone that was dying! The place itself feels like it's straight out of a movie, a true london pub. I cannot stop thinking about this fish. Mall Tavern, if youre ever in Minnesota, please send me the recipe.

One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.

Some sort of meat (beef/pork/lamp/chicken/vegetarian option, plus roasted potatoes, veggies, gravy, and Yorkshire pudding (a sort of conical croissant?))). My SO had the Sunday roast customized for her in her inimitable way, but was still not pleased. I ordered off the regular menu, and loved it, so 5 stars! She can set up her own Yelp account if she wants to argue. The service was friendly and helpful (although once the food was served, we didn't see them again. This is kind of normal for UK pubs? I feel like the booze options on Yelp need updating: beer, wine, straight liquor and gin & tonics. Maybe call it Uk pub full bar? No martinis or Moscow mules here.) Our server (south Asian dude, helpful, accommodating, and friendly) was awesome, but so were the other staff (2 nice young ladies of different ethnic ancestry), so basically across the board great service. Weather was great, so we enjoyed people watching from our outdoor seats (Daunt book totes are definitely a thing here. Even when the bookshop in question is closed)
