I've been to The Dakota three times now, and the experience has been pretty consistent each visit. The food is very good, I genuinely have no complaints there and have enjoyed everything I've ordered. The prices are reasonable for what you get, which is definitely a plus. That said, the atmosphere can be a bit loud since the bar is right next to the dining area. It gives more of a lively, social vibe than an intimate one. I also noticed that the staff can come across as having a bit of an attitude both toward customers and sometimes with each other. I wouldn't take it personally, it just seems to be the overall tone there. I would highly recommend it for a fun night out with friends girls' night, boys' night, casual group dinner. But it's not the place I'd choose for a romantic dinner, and if top-tier customer service is a must for you, this may not be your favorite spot. We decided on the The Dakota Grill for dinner last night. We got there around 5:30ish. We walked in the hostess seated us at a table as the place was starting to fill up and all of the booths which I would've preferred were saved for reservations. Our waitress came to the table a few minutes later and took our drink orders which was ice water with lemon and I ordered Moscato I had 2 glasses before/ during/ after dinner and so did he with his Tito's Vodka and raspberry iced tea. she was new and busy I think she said she'd only been waitressing there for 3 days. She was pleasant and was really trying to do a good job and in my opinion she did. So she came back with our drinks and took our orders. He got a bowl of the lobster bisque soup and I got a small salad for our appetizers and then a short time later our dinners came out. I got the Sicilian Arancini which was good it didn't have pecorino Romano in it and that's what I'm used to but they were hot and good. I got 4 and I ate 2. I never eat all of anything lol! I had the remaining 2 for lunch today and with anything that has red sauce in it- it always tastes better the 2nd day. And he got the blackened fish with French fries and Mac salad. Amazing place! The food is delightful and very tasty. A nice wide variety of choices. One of my favs is the pesto bacon chicken sandwich! The service is quick and very polite. Huge disappointment. The gentleman at the table next to us had what appeared to be wayyyy too much alcohol and projectile vomited in our direction with some of it splashing under our table/shoes. We moved our table to the bar after helping the gentleman. When we received our food my salmon was dry and the mashed potatoes and broccoli was cold. I would have sent it back but the person I was with hates when people send food back. His lasagna was over cooked. Fortunately nobody was very hungry after the vomiting on/near us. I emailed the Dakota 2 weeks ago and never received a response. I even explained in the email that I did not want to rush to a negative review. My email to them that went unanswered: "I contemplated writing google and yelp reviews based on my experiences at your restaurant/bar but before I do, I feel the professional thing to do is to share them with you first. As a business owner myself, I am very aware that things happen from time to time and that no business is perfect. Additionally, I realize there are unethical competitors out there who will write fake/false reviews to make a company look bad. With that said, I have to tell you that I am beyond disappointed with your place on several levels. These are my last 3 visits to Dakota; My wife, myself, and another couple met at Dakota for a few drinks and something to eat. We sat in the bar area at a table that felt like it was going to tip over and it was never made clear that we needed to wait for a server. I decided to go to the bar and ask the bartender if I could order drinks. She was not overly friendly (pretty much 95% of the job requirement) and told me we had to wait for a server. We did and eventually, a server who was working both the dining area and the bar made her way to us. We ordered drinks and did not see the server for a very long time. My friend went up to the bar to get another round and was met with a bit of hostility from the bartender who said we were supposed to order from the server. He explained she did not come back so the bartender very reluctantly let us buy drinks (yes, you read that correctly, we wanted to give you money). We wanted to order food and my friend and I flipped a coin to see who had to ask the bartender because neither of us wanted to. I lost the coin flip and asked the bartender who got mad and left to find the server. At this point, the server was bitter too and took our order like we were bothering her. We ordered pizzas, ate them (they were ok) and left to go to another place. -------- Some time went by and I chalked up that bad experience as an isolated incident and returned to the Dakota a few weeks later with my wife. We sat in the bar area again and ignored as all the attention was on what appeared to be a "regulars" sitting at the bar. With no server around I rolled the dice and waited for the bartender to stop talking to the regulars so I could order drinks. This time it was "ok" to order from the bartender and not wait for a server (keeping us guessing and uncomfortable). We ordered a salad and a couple of appetizers all of which were thrown together as fast as possible and were well below average in taste and quality. We both agreed this was our last trip to Dakota. --------- On to my 3rd experience which was yesterday (7/20). I convinced my wife to give Dakota one more try, this time we would eat in the dining area and it would be better. My wife, me, and my son showed up and the hostess asked if we had reservations. We said no and she continued to look at her book and finally said "ok come with me". We expected to see a full house based on what and how she said it and upon entering the dining area, there was a total of 6 people. ????????? Regardless, we sat and the waitress, a very pleasant younger female took our drink orders and told us about the specials. She came back and took our food orders; Apps: Sicilian Arancini: it was fine, nothing to tell your friends about but nothing to complain about. Coconut Shrimp: terrible. frozen product dumped in the fryer and served with cocktail sauce? who serves cocktail sauce with coconut shrimp? A simple mango based sauce is what should be served with it. Entrees: Wife: Filet with baked potato and broccoli: rubbery filet, dry, overcooked potato, unseasoned broccoli (2 tiny pieces) Son: Dakota Burger w/Fries: soggy, messy, fair at best. Me: NY Strip, salad, broccoli: The steak was inedible, extremely tough, very difficult to cut, not seasoned, thin, and everything you do not want a steak to be. Unseasoned broccoli (2 tiny pieces). New owners really did a great job renovating the place. Looks gorgeous! Food is good. Was there to listen to Lake Effect band on their outdoor patio. Great band! Great outdoor patio! Patio was full but still nicely spaced apart with umbrella tables. Ordered bacon pesto chicken sandwich with fries and wings with a cajon dry rub. Both were good and would order again. Nothing spectacular but good food. Some prices seemed expensive but that is unfortunately the times with supply and demand. Glad the wings were big and juicy and not tiny like some places. The Dakota has played the backdrop to multiple lunch meetings with business partners for us, and has always had a friendly and accommodating staff! They have been operating during covid, masks and all, with menus that are constantly changing with new offerings, and familiar favorites. The lodge feel mashed up with the bourbon and whiskey barrel tables and custom tabletops makes for a great conversation piece, and just plain ole cool art! Obviously, we come for the food! Their soups so far, have been amazing! The lobster bisque is flavorful with chunks of lobster, and the French onion has heaps of onions and gobs of cheese! A favorite for lunch, the Buffalo Bill burger - is a delicious steak burger with mushrooms, Swiss, onion straws, campfire sauce and your choice of fries or onion rings. Cooked proper and the fries and onion rings are both solid. I haven't tried any of the salads or the Reuben yet, but that's a yet! We were seated promptly, the bread guy dropped a basket of bread on our table, grunted something and walked away. We went to the Dakota for dinner last night and was very disappointed. I ordered Haddock Dakota. I have had it many times here. It is supposed to come with mozzarella cheese. When the server brought it, it had cheese on it but it was sliced cheese. I asked the server and she stated that they use sliced mozzarella cheese. This was not mozzarella cheese, it was more like american cheese. The meal was very bland and did not have any flavor at all. Another thing, some diners received bread and butter and other tables (our included) did not get bread. They also had a big problem with flys. It was a very disappointing meal. read more

I was skeptical at first after seeing so many negative reviews, but overall I have to say that our experience was positive. We went with a group of four, and we all left happy and full. First of all, the bread is addicting. It's a warm, crusty, buttery and garlicky piece of heaven. We devoured that while we waited for our appetizers and salads. We got the bruschetta and arancini, and both were very tasty. The salads were simple yet complex blends of mixed greens. Finally, the main courses. The Mac and cheese with crispy chicken was out of this world - the chicken itself tasted like a real deal cutlet and the cheese sauce was excellent. The shrimp allosandro was also stellar. The fish fry was soggy though, and the white clam pizza we ordered didn't get put in the oven in time for dinner, but it ended up being comped and it was worth the wait. The remodeled Dakota is absolutely stunning! The vision has certainly became a beauty. We were greeted kindly by the host, bartender and almost all the staff. Nice touch. The wood fire pizza oven is one of so many amazing additions including a seasonal deck and outdoor fireplace coming soon! The decoration is brilliant and the upmost respect to the honored military servicemen and women proudly shown with pride. The menu was typical length to fit today's norm but did have a paper daily special. Prior to our entree we were delivered a warm baked bread with butter. It was great and would pair nicely with the wine selection posted in closing. Presentation was nice overall. Two entree dinners one being the bacon wrapped 3oz filets (tournedos) accompanied with a salad and the mashed potatoes as a side; however, a baked potato would be great but not available. The in house dressing was a raspberry poppyseed and a favorite flavorful introduction! The potatoes were not descriptive of its ingredients such as "loaded", "sour cream with chive" but simply mashed potatoes. I'm not familiar of what the flavors were and had a nice taste but the potatoes fell flat. The steak was a bit bitter for my liking maybe it was a marinade but I did not find it pleasant this time. The second entree was Chicken Parmesan with a side salad. The sauce was thin and the noodles were over cooked. The chicken was not the headline due to mound of seasoned cheese that was over cooked and incredibly difficult to cut through. We brought our concerns to our server whom was very friendly and she was empathetic. We disputed the bill due to what we could eat favorably shown best in the photos prior to after in closing. The chef himself addressed our concerns and gave his feedback. The bill was accounted for by the imperfections and we tipped the staff accordingly as they did well. The Dakota is such a beautiful gem to this town and has a long history. It was so nice to see how much work went into reviving Dakota. Went to The Dakota last evening for the first time since the re-opening and I have to say that it will be my last. I ordered their version of linguine with white clam sauce as this a favorite of mine. It was tasteless, thank goodness there were clams in it otherwise it would have been like eating noodles in fish broth. My husband ordered the countryman burger which came topped with a fried egg and sausage gravy. He asked for medium, it came well and the sausage gravy was sweet?, not savory. Just to top off the experience, the waitress brought a standard Styrofoam container for the left over clam sauce, really....we had to ask for a soup container when she finally came to her senses and brought out a plastic take out container that snapped shut. Sadly, there are really no good restaurants in Hilton :( read more

Anyways today we went and me and my daughter both ordered the lobster bisque which was stone cold. No exaggeration it was like it sat outside at room temp. I also ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich. The bun it was on was twice the size of the chicken and was hard to eat so I tossed the buns and used a fork to eat the chicken. WOW!! This place is Amazing!! We had the fried calamari as an appetizer-not your traditional recipe; it comes with marinara sauce and kalamata olives, parmigiana cheese and garlic yummy. For dinner we had burgers - Cajun cheese burger with jalapeños and the Dakota Cheese Burger - made to perfection and topped it off with chocolate cake. I highly recommend coming here. The Dakota is a recently remodeled and clean restaurant. The Blackened Cajun Salmon plate was nicely prepared and tasty. The Chicken French came with plenty of pasta, but the lemon-wine sauce was bland and watery. No salads were offered with dinner. Most restaurants in this price range include a house salad. A basket with a very small bread offering was brought to the table. When we asked for more bread, our waitress balked at the idea but she did bring another basket. read more

I haven't been to the Dakota since it was remodeled. I would recommend off the start not to get the lobster bisque because it tastes like tomato soup. No lobster chunks in the soup at all! Chicken Alfredo was alright, however the chicken was very rubbery and hard to chew. I would recommend this place as somewhere to get crispy bar food, not a tasty meal. Just completed our first visit to The Dakota! Great experience all around. Service was excellent! All of our meals were piping hot and delicious! The new updated Dakota Grill is a definite recommendation! It was busy, so service was a little slow, but like I said it was a busy Saturday night. The food was delicious, literally tried all four of the dishes ordered at our table and every single dish was delicious The staff was all super friendly, the drinks were great, all around a great place. We went there for the first time tonight and we were very impressed with the taste and quality of the food as well as the service. The owner came to our table, she was very friendly and appreciative that we were there. She spoke to every person that walked in and out the door. To me that speaks volumes. how grateful she is to her customers and takes pride in her establishment. It may look like your local small town restaurant, but the food tasted like you were eating at a high class restaurant without the high prices! I was very glad the proportions were enough to bring some home for a late snack or lunch the next day. We definitely will be back and recommend this to others. Went there last night we got there at 6:25 told it would be a 20 min. Wait which ended up 50 mins. We got our soup and salad .Then we waited till 8:25 to get our dinners. Only 1 choice of steak on the menu. Which was nothing special ( fair ) . It was supposed to be 12 oz but looked like 8 oz. Mashed potatoes and soup where cold. The fish fry was very good. The rest of us had French dishes. The Broccoli French was supposed to be over Angel hair Pasta but came over Penne . No big deal but they should have told us. The Artichoke French and over Linguine instead of Angel Hair was starchy. But ok. Not great. Won't be back. Sorry. Pricey and the food was just fair.
