Fresh deli sandwiches being made. People are ordering every kind of sandwich from breakfast sandwiches to deli sandwiches. I got a Rueben. You buy drinks from the fridge and pay for everything at the register. It's a real friendly vibe and a great country feel. The cook and workers were friendly and made good conversation. Visiting this glorious place and stumbled upon Davis General store.. where the troopers get their meals and ordinary kind folks like the store owner MS LISA LENOX helped us out with Goat Soap. I love their deli with a top-notch slab of pastrami behind the case awaits it's next meal, I love how everyone dines here including the local Troopers and I love how a gentleman stuck his credit card out and offered to pay for the 4 or so Troopers meal.. Conveniently located to Leipers fork. Went to get a grilled cheese added a slice of tomato it was 9.50!!! I'm not a cheap ass but that's insane for this place. It's not gourmet and it's not big. When for $12 you can get a beautiful grilled cheese with Brie and apple and a side on insane fresh baked bread at 1892. So don't ever get a grilled cheese here. They charged me the same price as my husbands Ruben. (Loaded with meat) he loves this sandwich and gets one like every weekend! I skip Davis now unless he grabs me a root beer or chips. My cheese sandwich should not cost the same as his rueben. And if you order a cold sandwich with cheese tomato and lettuce it's also a rip off. (So go to the Leipers fork market and it's like $4) because your ARENT getting meat! Wild. My husband likes their hotdogs and they have Stewart's root beer and really good chips(i forget the beans) . But the 9.50 grilled cheese has me wondering how they declared that value and I stay in the car or home when he comes for the rueben lol read more

On my birthday last year I stopped here to grab a bite to eat and pick up some gifts for friends for back home it is the coolest general store I love it I recommend it highly five stars. The food was awesome the people were great the Cashiers were so nice and from someone come in from the state of New York we are not used to people being nice so it was a little uncomfortable at first- but it was a so warming southern welcome. After my first bite of breakfast, I knew we'd be coming back, which we did almost every morning of our trip. The store itself is a simple general store/gas station/cafe that's been in business since the early 1900's. You walk in, grab a paper menu card, jot down your order, and sit at a table until it's ready. If you catch the right timing of crowds you'll quickly get sucked into local chatter, weather, politics, gossip, etc. and the owners and employees alike were very friendly making sure to chat us up, and remembered us from the last visit once we started coming back. The food is fantastic. It's simple but absolutely delicious. They serve a solid short order breakfast, but my repeat order was the Toaster Sandwich on sourdough, with sausage, egg, cheese, and mayo. A bummer of a follow up visit. I was salivating all morning for Lisa's Chicken Salad. Drove out to Davis all ready to enjoy my sandwich, I filled out the order form and handed it to the intimidating, non-smiling, annoyed looking pair of gentlemen behind the counter. Not a word was spoken. Feeling uncomfortable with the surliness I said "easy peasy," and smiled. The shaved head guy looked at me like a WWF character waiting to turnbuckle me while his hipsterish partner just stared at me blankly. I thought for a minute about the $9.00 chicken salad sandwich I had just ordered from the two guys who looked like they couldn't be more annoyed at my presence. They could've said "hello," or "thanks," or "you look like an asshole but we'll take your money anyway." But instead frick and frack just stared at me with all the contempt of an ex-spouse. I canceled my order and left. There are cheaper places with human staff and comparable food that actually acknowledge your efforts to give them your money. Oh well, Davis, it was nice while it lasted but I just can't give my money where it's not welcome. Shame the chicken salad was just not a little bit better to make me brave the nasty staff. read more

A little bit down the road from Leipers Fork is The Davis General. Almost out of the movies, with the kindest dog greeting you outside, the Davis General was worth the trip! You pick your sandwich from a half sheet list by checking the box beside it, which made ordering a breeze. I had the turkey melt, that literally could've melted in my mouth. It was delicious! Husband had the club and had to save half for later! But, the best part of all was the staff! I caught one name, Greg, but spoke to all three of the lovely people working. Nothing better than a beautiful, warm weather ride down gorgeous country roads that includes a stop at The Davis General for their delicious sandwiches. The Reuben and BLT are our favorites.
