I made a big mistake in hiring this attorney to represent me in what should have been a simple family law matter. I could have left this review back in 2021 but I held out hope that this would be made right. I hired Mr Davis in 2021 for minor modification and enforcement of visitation. Mr Davis asked me to drive to Austin for the consultation so I drove almost 5 hours to meet with him. At conclusion of the consultation, Mr Davis said I have a good case. Mr Davis recommended that I should go for full custody back as I had the full custody of my son raising him for 5 years after his mother abandoned the child when our son was just 14 moths old. Mr Davis requested a retainer & as I recall, I paid him $15k. He claims he was given a retainer of only $10k, but let's be honest - that is still a lot of money to get enforcement of an existing visitation agreement or even to go back to court for a full custody modification, isn't it? Fast Forward to the day of the hearing. I had a witness fly in from the east coast - we had a mutual ex-wife. My witness and I observed Mr Davis enter the court house and my witness pointed out Mr Davis in discussion with our ex-wife's attorney. After this chat ended, Mr Davis approached me telling me to go find another lawyer. Mr Davis then departed, abandoning me right before the hearing with no prior notice that he wanted to withdraw. Mr Davis to this day has refused to tell me why he abandoned me and my case immediately preceding the hearing. After repeated attempts to get Mr Davis to do what I paid a retainer for or at least give me an explanation for why I was left to fend for myself, I finally submitted a complaint with the State Bar of Texas & the Texas Attorney General's office reporting my experience for them to investigate. I have also filed a lawsuit for this abandonment situation in District Court in Austin. May justice prevail. read more

One star is too generous. If you want an incompetent attorney who is slow to respond to emails, short and incomplete in his email responses, messes up dates in divorce decrees, can't do simple math properly when it comes to child support payments, files incorrect income withholding orders so that the wrong amount is withheld from your paycheck by your employer, and requires you to babysit him throughout the drafting of your divorce decree like you would if a 3 year old was writing it, Terence Davis is the man for you. The central Texas area would be a better place to live if Terence Davis was not a practicing attorney in this area. I have confirmed several ways in which this attorney does not know the law as it relates to divorce proceedings and child support. His office said "you can just give this copy of the income withholding order to your employer." WRONG. It has to come from the state attorney general's office. He said "The date child support begins in your divorce decree doesn't matter, child support won't kick in until after the divorce is finalized." WRONG. I got a letter from attorney general's office saying I owed a month of back child support during the time I was still married, because Mr. Davis does not know the law and because he gave us wrong advice, and because he did not correct the date in the divorce decree. He had dates wrong all over the place in the decree, mistakes that would have resulted in thousands of dollars, and he didn't discriminate... several of his mistakes would have affected his own client to the tune of several thousand dollars, not all mistakes were only in his client's favor. That tells you he wasn't trying to be shrewd and ruthless for his client, it instead tells you he is incompetent and doesn't know what he is doing. If you hire Terence Davis as your attorney, I will pray for you that you have a better experience and he makes less mistakes than he made on our case. Mistakes will be made, that is a guarantee, but I only hope for your sake they are less costly than they were in our case. read more

I had a phone consultation with Terrence earlier this week. He was very sympathetic to my particular situation, but also very straight forward with me. He said that while I might be right to pursue legal action in my case, I was not going to win. He said that in cases like mine, only the lawyers win and to save my money and not pursue it. I appreciated his honest assessment of my situation and his willingness to forgo financial gain. I have always heard the stories about lawyers being the only ones that profit in divorce cases, but I have to say that Terrence does not put money ahead of what's best for the client and the family situation. He seems to really care about the client and their circumstances, but he will give his honest advice about your case and let you know when he's thinks you will spend a lot of money and still lose even though you may be right in your cause.
