We were torn about staying here. We wanted to but my parents were already staying elsewhere so we stopped in for dinner. The hotel is beautiful! It is modern and tastefully decorated. It's fun, young and upscale. Next time we are here we can't wait to give this little boutique hotel a whirl.

Great place to stay and eat. Food at Elephant and castle was delicious. Kareem was great as a host.

The price tag for the hotel rooms, as other have mentioned, is definitely due to the location. It can't be beat. Breakfast is okay, with a selection of eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, breads and a coffee machine. Small variety of fruit and yogurt as well. The rooms are absolutely tiny. We booked a family room and not sure what happened...the pull out couch barely fit our two young children and left zero space in the room. The bathroom was also small and had limited space even for towels, let alone counter space. I booked through Priceline, which I will never do again because our reservation was completely messed up. They didn't have the right number of people or the included breakfast reflected in the hotels reservation system. The front desk staff couldn't have been kinder though and sorted it all out rather quickly. If you're just a solo travel or a couple the rooms would be sufficient and it would probably make for a great home base during your time in Galway.

It is located at a perfect location for walkability - right across the street from the Spanish Arch! We could see it from our window! This, of course, meant we were right at the foot of the Latin Quarter which is filled with noisy tourists and pubs. Our room was nicely fitted with two windows which cut out the noise sufficiently. Check in was a breeze! And our room was big and comfortable. With the change to Leonardo came refurbished rooms so it all felt pretty new. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Two of the four evenings we were here, they offered late afternoon chocolate chip cookies and prosecco! A nice touch! We only had their breakfast one of the mornings. If you purchase it in advance, the price is reduced by a couple euros. They had standard Irish breakfast buffet offerings and the staff were friendly. I wasn't overly wowed by the breakfast and, since there are so many restaurants and coffee places nearby, I wouldn't recommend it here.

You book this hotel for cost and convenience - We took a redeye to Dublin and landed at 8:30 am on a Saturday. We took the 9:20 am train to Galway. When we got to Galway, this hotel was a two minute walk from the train station and it was ready for check in at noon. Thats exactly what you want after not sleeping for 36 hours! We also were doing an all day Viator bus tour to the Cliffs of Moor and several other sites, and that was a five minute walk from the hotel. As others have noted, it's a super quick walk to Budget rental (where you can rent a car day of), as well as many restaurants and shops. Your room includes breakfast which was a pretty typical hotel breakfast. Was it noisy at night? Yes, our first night was a Saturday night in the city and you're above a pub! But we shut the window and popped in ear plugs and turned on the fan and we were fine. I slept through the entire night and I'm not a great sleeper. There is no AC because it's Europe and most cheap to mid-priced hotels don't offer AC.

The only issue is getting out of there (even for the taxis) requires an awkward drive through a tight parking lot. The entire staff was professional and friendly. I think the decor is cool, lots of velvet and fun colors. Our room was clean and super spacious. Robes and slippers provided. The bed was very comfortable and allowed for a great night of sleep. There's even a mini-fridge that you can actually use and not get charged for. On check in there was a little bag of snacks and a plate of desserts with a lovely welcome note. Turn down service brought some tasty chocolates. Really nice touches. One of the highlights of the stay was the breakfast. These were undeniably our best breakfasts of our week in Ireland.

The tv in the bathroom didn't have a remote. The gas fireplace was turned off by orders of the county. I loved the water views and the room amenities. Cool place.

It turns out that it was under the name of the colleague who booked the room for me, and that they did not note my details although they were shared with the hotel. The room was a nice size with a queen sized bed and a twin or full sized bed. I could not figure out how to adjust the temperature on the radiator which meant I had a cold first night. The next morning, I discovered that the window had been left open. The second night was more comfortable since the window was closed. There was no comforter or blanket in the room. The breakfast was nice and the servers attentive. There was enough variety of choices of food without it being overwhelming. It is outside of central Galway which is inconvenient if you want to walk around and see the city.

We stayed here for a couple nights during the week. We were worried about the potential noise however the live music stopped at around 11pm so we had no complaints there. Perhaps the noise is longer on weekends but we didn't see it as an issue during our weekday stay. The room was clean, and had complementary water bottles. The TV was also great and allowed us to sign in to our Netflix and YouTube for streaming on the big screen. The room was on the smaller side but enough space to at least open up our big luggage and carry on. We got discounted parking as well from the hotel, which helped as parking in the city was expensive. Did not get the chance to visit the bar in the hotel in the evenings but we heard really good live music!

Both are managed by the same company, but after staying at each, I'd choose the Hyde without hesitation. Because flight delays shortened our trip, we only spent two nights at The Residence instead of the four we originally booked. The biggest selling point is the location. It's literally at the entrance to Galway's Latin Quarter, making it easy to explore the city's restaurants, pubs, and shops on foot. If location is your top priority, it's hard to beat. The hotel itself is very small, with only about 20 rooms spread across four floors. Our room had updated furnishings, modern bathrooms, and fun artwork that gave it some personality. Like many European hotels, though, the room was tight, especially with three single beds. Unfortunately, the biggest issue for us was the lack of air conditioning. I never noticed that on the website while booking, and after staying at two other Irish hotels with air conditioning, it was an unexpected disappointment. The hotel supplied two fans, but with the windows only opening a few inches, the room stayed warm. Opening the windows wasn't much of a solution because of the late-night street noise from the Latin Quarter. In fact, the hotel even provides earplugs in the room, which tells you this is a common issue. A couple of things to know before you arrive. M. Fitzgerald's, the restaurant attached to the hotel, doesn't serve breakfast, although a Starbucks is directly across Quay Street. Also, you can't drive to the hotel's front door, so first-time visitors may want to plan their arrival in advance. We found Hynes Yard Car Park to be much easier to navigate than the older Spanish Arch Car Park, and the hotel offers discounted parking at both. The most disappointing part of our stay came after we left. I completed the hotel's guest survey, explained my concerns, and requested that someone contact me. Unfortunately, I never received a response. The Residence has an unbeatable location, but between the warm room, street noise, and lack of follow-up after my feedback, it didn't live up to our expectations.
