For being so outdated and not wanting outside drinks brought in but not offering any beverages us single adults go for, the gorgeous sights our second half of nine spawned a completely different take on this course. I was unprepared for the rolling tree framed vista enough to make any Midwesterner boasting of their backyard blush. I am still new to this silly real estate discussion disguised as a sport however it began to grow on me being able to slow down and take in the scenes. We did time our outing perfectly, right off a week of excessive rain, everything was brilliantly green and putting through golden hour helped us ignore the amateur arrangement of this setup. I'm sure this is near the bottom of options for professionals and sorely needs to fix those eye sores along with enhancing their drink options to happily treat more appetites. But try Fairlakes with low expectations! The pleasant surprise will feel right, you'll find a simple and enticing course, an easy going and friendly staff that's clean of any smug golf attitude, and fair prices to give beginners like me a good chance.

I've come to appreciate the sport and courses I've played in. So, from my limited experience (only playing about 4 different courses in Illinois and Kansas), I would rank Northwood Park at the top. Top Three Reasons: 1) I think it's a well designed course. It has a lot different terrain; ranging from wooded to open flat to hilly areas. It's visually appealing and fun to walk around. 2) Even though there's a lot of different landscapes, it easy to find the next basket. And if you get turned around somehow, people that play there are nice and can probably tell you where to go! 3) It's a good course for all playing levels. There are few tricky/challenging holes but on the other hand, there are also some easier ones. The mix of difficulties makes it fun. Now, the only criticism I have for the park is you occasionally find trash around the tee off areas. It's sad because it's such a nice park! Anyway, trash receptacles throughout the course would definitely help!

Blind drives and straight shots abound as well. Hole 5 is a bastard 'cos of the tree line and traversing up a hill then down and crossing a small crick to land on the island pin. Delicious. 18 is the majestic capstone hole. Teeing off 100 feet above the fairway and walking across the crick leaves discers with a lasting impression. Well worth the drive on a nice day. Spend sun up to sun down here. The challenge is to get in the mid 50s. My personal best was 47. Replay: Very High if you are not tuckered out.

My dad and I came here during a day of exploring and was greeted with a nice park. It has your typical playground and spacious grounds. But this one has a pretty nice tennis court. So if you get the urge to play, there is a place to play in Blo-No area. I really don't remember much about this park aside from the cool tennis courts. Definitely one to check out if you are park exploring!

Actually it has an interesting history itself. The zoo has its own business page on Yelp. As for the rest of the park, there's other stuff worth exploring. There's a pretty big lake. Go take a walk across the stone bridge. The park also has a mini golf course and softball fields among other things. Also check out a preserved steam locomotive. There's also a pavilion for those wanting to have a picnic. Has lots of activities throughout the year including festivals and fireworks. It's located east of Morris Avenue and south of Wood Street. They also have entertainment such as outdoor theater.
