A musician's dream!…read more Per the recommendation of our wedding planner, we worked with Hella Fitzgerald for our wedding in Big Sur, CA in August 2023. One of the best decisions we made for our wedding. I am a musician myself and had a lot of specifications for what I wanted throughout our ceremony, first dance, and dancing portions of the evening. And I mean a LOT of specifications! Music is something I am very particular about. Lilan worked closely with me on everything from which 2nd singer to hire to match the feel we wanted (the band works with various singers) to learning new songs that we had requested to adjusting songs to specific BPMs!!! She never seemed to lose her patience with me and would text me randomly with ideas or singer leads. One time she even texted me a couple vocal riffs she sang into her phone to see what I would prefer. Easy to communicate and plan with and their performance really elevated our reception. We let them know what kind of vibe and tempo we liked ahead of time and they did the rest choosing songs to play for the reception to keep things upbeat without being overpowering. Daniel checked in with us at various points throughout the night to ensure the vibes were right and if we needed any adjustments. Nova Jazz also was able to play a special request song outside of their listed repertoire for our first dance which we really appreciated and was very special for us. The wedding day itself was a little unpredictable because we had many (many!) shifting components to the schedule, but Emily and the rest of the band members handled all the changes with ease and grace. When planning a wedding or other large event with so many different complex elements like ours, you need vendors who are organized, experienced, proactive, empathetic, fabulous at communication, flexible, and completely on top of their game. Emily and The Cosmo Alleycats exceeded all these. Trust me, you'll be grateful to have someone like Emily on your side as you're planning your event. And the really nice thing about choosing a band that has played together for years is that they already know how to play together to make the best music (some bands are thrown together at the last minute). And a cute little town it is, complete with its own FREE Summer Concert Series, held the 2nd Friday of each month, with a 2nd show added in September. They shut down Park Place, one of the three main streets that make up the downtown triangle. (It's like a town square, but smaller!) The quality of the music is generally excellent, with two bands each concert. The music varies from Jazz, RnB, to Latin, Zydeco and the occasional Americana act. This year that means some really cool bands like Taarka, Houston Jones, Tom Rigney and Flambeau, The Stairwell Sisters, LLoyd's Garage and and 5 more great bands. The first band goes on at 5:30 and the 2nd band goes on about 6:45. There are restaurants selling great food, and beer, artists with booths towards the back, and a raffle where all kinds of things are winnable. It's a super pleasant way to spend a Friday evening and hang out with friends. And if you live in the Point, or elsewhere in Richmond, its an essential place to catch up with your neighbors. And its free. What could be better than that. Try eating at either The Up And Under (pub), The Baltic (German food), Little China (cheap, good) or the Thai restaurant.
