The seating was comfy, and the restaurant was clean and bright, with several excellent options. The restaurant is a higher end, but they have a lovely lunch/bar menu they allowed us to order from even though it was dinner time. My husband opted for a burger, and I got the Caesar salad. We also had breakfast here every morning. It was delicious, with so many options. If you have the time to order something off the menu, I'd suggest an omelet.

It was beautiful indeed and the service was good. At first glance at the menu I was a little disappointed because I was in the mood for brunch type of food, but settled on the sourdough bread with crab. The crab was smothered in butter, but tasted so good...and Edinburgh had some of the best sourdough bread I've experienced! The menu was a bit sophisticated for our teens, but there was a kids menu for them to order from. They enjoyed an order of fish sticks and french fries. If I were to come back I'd probably go for dinner over lunch since I think their menu is better suited for that, but overall was a lovely meal.

We had a fantastic dinner at the Michelin-recommended Number One at the Balmoral. It was our last…read morenight in Edinburgh, and our goal was to have a truly special evening. In terms of service, atmosphere, and food, that's exactly what we got. My wife and I both had 5-course tasting menus. As a vegetarian, I was especially pleased they were not only able to accommodate my diet, but do so in a spectacular way. The experience was opulent and comfortable from the moment we walked in. We were seated at a very comfortable, spacious round table, next to each other with a view of the rest of the dining room. Kind of felt like royalty. With such a nice, upscale place, it's easy for the atmosphere and staff interaction to feel overly important and stuffy. Not so here, though...all of the staff we interacted with, from the host to the sommelier to our server, as well as the person who brought our food, were all comfortable and fun. The sommelier was particularly engaging and gave us a nice sense of him as a human who cared deeply about what he was presenting to us. The food was outasite...especially as a vegetarian, to be so thoughtfully and well taken care of was fantastic. Everything was beautiful and delicious...the courses were not too large...so the meal, despite being 5 courses (plus lovely amuse-bouche canapés), was designed to be finished...and finish it I did. (Not to mention a healthy portion of the seeded bread and butter they brought. We added on the Balmoral honey dessert as they have bees on the roof of the hotel and the honey couldn't be any more local than that. We wished they'd brought one for us to share, but they brought us 2 separate ones, which was more than we needed after 2 five-course meals, which already came with dessert. There were also many solicitations of add-ons- macarons, after-dinner desserts, drinks, and cheeses...it did feel a tiny bit like they were looking for every opportunity to add items to our bill. Also, tiny disappointment...we had mentioned during the reservation that it was our anniversary dinner, and when seated, they did ask us about that to confirm...but at no point during the meal after that did they acknowledge that in any way. Besides that, the overall experience was fantastic, indulgent, and delicious. Highly recommended extremely fine dining experience in Edinburgh in an historic building.

They have pizzas, more original foods, burger, macarony with cheese, etc... I believe that this place is perfect for friendly chat with some beer or drinks. I had "Meatballs" with cheese and sauce and it was amazing! I visited many places, but this is definitely one of the best. Their food is super good! I tried their burger too (my gf had one) and it was so good! They have their own "meat" inside burger which makes burger special. I can only recommend for something to eat, or just sit down for a beer with friends.

The place was packed, so make sure you call ahead with a reservation if you're coming with a group! They offer specials daily; we visited on Thursday which included a burger, fries and a drink for £12. We had the Mexican chicken burger, and since we don't drink, the waiter kindly made us a pina colada mocktail. We also had the fish and chips, which has been the closest vegan resemblance to fish and chips I have ever seen! It even came with mayo and mushy peas. For dessert we had pineapple upside down cake, which was warm and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. A great find in Edinburgh!
