We traveled from Wisconsin to catch the Struts at the District. The venue is conveniently situated within a one block walk of two nearby hotels. A bonus when you can walk to/from a show. If you need to kill time there's also a major mall across the parking lot. The District is attached to a restaurant (Roam). The restaurant has modern decor and is a fun environment. I wouldn't sing praises for the food, but it's a solid option when catching a show. The District is basically a mid size open box building with a stage at the front. We were on the rail so we could see perfectly. I have no complaint about acoustics within the building. There's a "U" shaped balcony above the concert floor. If you're on the balcony rail you would be able to see the show with no difficulty at all. My guess is the venue comfortable capacity is about 1,000 people. We only had water during our show, but I was incredibly impressed that a bottle of water only cost $2. I've been to similar venues in Milwaukee and Chicago and generally pay upwards of $5 just for a water. All in all The District is a nice midsize event venue Sioux Falls should be proud to call their own. read more

Attended The District for a concert. This is basically a big concrete box with some metal thrown in for good measure - in other words, horrible sound. Also, despite their ticket sales site showing actual seats that can be reserved in the balcony, it is all GA other than a few reserved boxes on one side of the venue. This is just a downright deceptive sales practice. FYI, if you do end up in the balcony, which has a separate bar, the sound is especially poor at the front railing. This also happens to be the only place you can actually see the band from up top. So, be ready to either watch the band on TVs and have poor sound, or see the band and have some of the worst sound you are likely to experience at a concert venue. read more

It was our first time to the District for Sunday brunch. We expected a nice large spread like you would have at one of the other nice restaurants offering brunch at the same price range in Sioux Falls. Nice atmosphere, however the selection of the buffet was extremely limited and honestly not very good at all. At just after 12:30pm we expected there to be plenty of what they DID have to offer hot and fresh, unfortunately we were left scraping pans to get whatever we did elect to eat. Service was mediocre as I had to walk to the bar in order to get silverware 10 minutes after being greeted and only got a straw with my second iced tea. Hopefully the regular menu is better and service will improve and we would give them another shot. The buffet would certainly have to improve before being considered again. Recently attended this venue for a speaker, and it was a nice place to go for a conference type event. Lots of seating on the ground floor as well as an upper level. There was a bar upstairs and downstairs and the bathrooms were clean. I could see this being a cool place to attend a concert or have an event such as a wedding or big party. Very classy place. The music is a little dated for me but it's not over powering like a dive bar. I got the salmon and jasmine rice it was amazing! The salmon was perfect and the rice was cooked awesome as well! Hubby got the bbq bacon burger. He couldn't finish it cause it was so big, but we're taking the rest with us because it is amazing. My wife, young daughter, and I, along with out-of-town guests, visited the Woodfire Grill brunch on Sunday, March 30th. This is the first time we have been to the Woodfire Grill for any meal and our expectations were high because we had heard wonderful review of your evening menu. To say we were underwhelmed is a huge understatement. The quality of food was subpar for the $13.99 price tag. We eat brunch at restaurants several Sundays per month. I suggest you try our favorites (Chevy's, Granite City, Ruby Tuesday's) to see how a proper Sunday brunch buffet should be handled. We enjoyed very few things on the brunch buffet as we felt everything either lacked any semblance of flavor or was directly from the freezer or a can. Case in point: the beef stew had no flavor at all. It tasted like meat, potatoes, and carrots in an unseasoned, brown sludge; the beef penne pasta had no flavor and was completely mushy (even my 3 year-old daughter would not touch it); the mixed vegetables were obviously frozen; the chicken for the chicken nachos was just plain, unseasoned shredded chicken. While it was tender, if it is supposed to be chicken nachos, should the chicken be seasoned? The person carving the prime rib seemed to pride himself on slicing the thinnest piece possible. Twice, I had to ask for a thicker piece. The cakes (chocolate and carrot) that were on the dessert bar were very dry, like they had been sitting on the plates overnight. We arrived at 10 am so I am sure they were not freshly cut. All said and done, we spent almost $70 with tax and tip and left very disappointed. As a music venue - 4.5 stars! The set up is great. You can get close to the stage. Bathrooms were pleasant. Drink prices on par with a concert venue $5-$6 for "good beer" and there was a good selection. The sound was good. Security did their jobs and were not overly harsh. The ticket price was reasonable. The staff taking tickets and minding the doors for the show were courteous and on point. As a place to get food or drink... 3 stars at best and only because of the drink selection. It is hard to judge this because there was over an hour wait for even a pretzel. 15 minutes to get a drink on the music venue side. The venue seemed to be vastly understaffed. I was told there were several large parties of 20-30 ... ok sure but there is also a show on the same night. Our experience was sub-par, at best. I feel The Districts atmosphere is geared towards have a couple glasses of wine or neat whiskey but overall we won't be returning for their food, cocktails, or beer. We've visited a number of times since it has opened and the quality of service and food has definetely went down. I would actually go to a chain restaurant over The District. Here's a few different reasons The service time from ordering, to getting our food was quite long for the slow-ish night they were having. Waitress talked down to us, and on more than one occasion inticing us to order a drink or dessert. The beer and cocktail menu's were pretty average at best, and for a place having 20+ taps and an outstanding liqour lineup, the end result would be well thoughout, but it wasn't. The food can change night to night, but over 2 years since being opened it has gone downhill. The menu has a lot of options, but about 2/3rd of the menu has boxed mashed potatoes or broccolettes. Our meal was well executed, but tasting items individually instead of one composed bite, showed each item missed something and wasn't made with love. They did cook it through like he asked other wise it was served on a heavily over salted white rice, the salmon with the melted butter had no vanilla bean taste at all and was served with a few stalks of asparagus. I had the cornbread chicken that had apples, Brussel sprouts and wild rice. The chicken was encrusted in Parmesan? We only had one hour to eat before he had to go to work and considering it's at 11am in Sioux Falls...we should be able to get in and out easily. We showed up about 5 minutes early and had to wait. While we waited, we noticed a large group of servers meeting in front of the bar getting ready for the day. I would say about 10 servers total. At promptly 11am, we get escorted to our table. We wait for a server and.... we wait and wait... then the host who led us to the table showed up and was like 'oh I'll let the server know.' Why didn't he let them know right away!?!? There was literally no other customers in the restaurant and there was at least 10 servers standing around!?!? We wait another couple minutes. It was already 11:15 and we're like... we have to go and get some fast food. We don't have time for this shit. So we walked out and ate at Paneras. It blew our mind how terrible the service was! The District is wonderful. I have gone to numerous shows that are always a fabulous time. Their Sunday Brunch is great (they have bottomless mimosas!). I have had nothing but great lunches and dinners there as well. As you can see, I am a relatively frequent flyer at The District. Most importantly - my husband and I chose to have both our wedding and reception at The District. The staff was incredible throughout the entire process. Not only was the venue stunning and up to my high expectations, but the service and food was on point. It was an amazing wedding and The District had so much to do with that. This review is just for the food. We showed up at around 3pm and were seated immediately. The waitress was right there to get our drink orders and even had a wine menu in hand for my wife. Beer selection was large. We were pleased up until the food showed up. I was craving spicy so I ordered the Kung Pow. My wife ordered the rotisserie chicken. Both meals were uneatable. I have never sent a meal back but we ended up sending both back. The Kung Pow was not Kung Pow, or something that even resembled Kung Pow. I can not even describe what it was but it was horrific in flavor and look. It was just a spice-less flavorless collection of materials. After the second bite I was unable to eat any more. The rotisserie chicken was also flavorless. They somehow extracted all of the flavor from the chicken. The sides she had, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables, were not as bad but still lacked any flavor. We ended up going to another restaurant. This is NOT a place to eat! The smallest ever order of calamari was 9 little nickel and quarter size pieces that would all together fit in a tablespoon. Originally, my husband and I went to the District shortly after their lounge opened. We were more than impressed. The atmosphere was comfortable yet classy and the food was unique, delicious and affordable. The 2nd and 3rd times we went, Rookies had been added. There are so many sports bars in Sioux Falls and this one was no different; their menu was unimpressive (bar food, mostly) and it was rather loud. We chose Cellar 49 instead, the fine dining option. The 4th time we went we were told Cellar 49 had been booked out by a wedding party and we would have to go to Rookies. We declined. Yesterday, we returned and waited at the host stand for 10 minutes. Staff saw us waiting and ignored us. My husband went to speak to the bartender only to be rudely informed that the host stand was now officially in Rookies and Cellar 49 no longer exists. I'm beyond disappointed. There are so few affordable fine dining options in town and we've just lost one of our favorites to yet another sports bar. TLDR; Used to be classy, now is just a generic sports bar with unhelpful, rude staff and an unimpressive menu. Only gets 2 stars for the atmosphere. read more

The District has been withholding refunds from people who purchased tickets and the concerts have been cancelled. My wife made the purchase of our tickets so she has been dealing with them since about April or May. First they told us that they were not refunding due to waiting to see if the artist was going to reschedule. A few months went by and my wife checked with them again as we had heard nothing. At that time in September, The District stated the concert was officially cancelled and to expect a refund check in a few weeks. Nothing ever came and my wife continued getting the runaround from them. Last Wednesday, they told her that the checks were in the mail that day. We waited until today and nothing showed up. My wife called today asking about the refund again and the guy on the phone had a little attitude with her when she said she wanted a call back today. He called back shortly after stating that the check was on his desk. She told him that we would be stopping by to pick it up shortly so don't waste our time with mailing it as we will never see it. This check magically appeared on his desk after he had heard me state that I'm sick of this shit in the background. We showed up to pick up the check for him to tell my wife that his Boss took it to mail it. He had to call his Boss to bring it back which took forever. We got our check for the refund finally but only because they became nervous about my anger in the background. This was evident through the guy on the phone asking if I would be coming along to pick up the check. The method worked. Later, I replied to and messaged people who had asked them on their Facebook page about the concerts. The District had offered no updates on cancellations. Just stating they will update when decisions had been made. That was over 2 months ago. The District deleted the comments, blocked me and called my wife asking her to tell me to stop as they had received a couple phone calls from the messages I had put out. read more

The place is a joke- the GM (Brent Taylor) used to be a manager at Granite City, which The District looked like it tried to poorly copy, seen through the subpar service and terrible food. The food: I've never heard anything good come from this place, with wait times ranging up to 2.5 hours before a main event (yes, even for appetizers)= unacceptable. When the food finally makes its way to the table, it's terrible. From what I've heard, its served with cold sides and less-than-appealing entrees. Sioux Falls, I warn you- Save your money. The only credible part about The District is the extensive wine menu- but hey, HyVee Liquor is right next door.
