Fancy restaurant tucked in a building called the Apex. We got here on a Saturday around opening time and was promptly seated. This wasn't a dinner plan, but came here for appetizers and specifically their chislic. The chislic is a staple of South Dakota and is breaded meat chunks that is deep fried. Started off with Cracklins Appetizer.... Hot, Crunchy, Fried Pork skins with two dippers. Really good flavor and hit the spot Treated with a Raspberry Sorbet Champagne pallet cleanser. Surprise it was a bonus Dinner was really good too. Scallops, cooked perfectly, were served a top asparagus and paired with herb & prosciutto crepes and a butter sauce. The Ribeye steak with roasted Sweet Potatoes was also really good. Maybe a little over roasted on the taters but we also got the Pork Belly Baby Potatoes. Dang these little gems were the Bomb! Hot roasted Taters with flavor bombs of Pork Belly Nuggets Finished off with another Old 43 and a NY Style Cheesecake drizzled with caramel sauce. One of the best kept secrets in Sioux Falls. What an amazing patio to go with a great selection of entrees.

We were in town for the Sioux Falls Half Marathon and I made a reservation ahead of time for this place. We were seated promptly and the hostess was very friendly. There was a man playing music - piano and a sax - which made for a nice ambiance. The food was very good. We got the chislic for our app, which apparently is a SD thing. It was delish. For an entree, I got the top sirloin. It comes with 2 sides and I ordered asparagus and sweet potatoes. I also got an additional side of dinner rolls, as I knew I wanted to bring some back to eat for before the race the next day. Everything was really good. No complaints at all with how the food tasted. The reasons I took away a star (honestly should take away 1.5 stars): 1) it took 30 minutes for our app to come out and 45 minutes for our entrees to come out. There was no heads up that food was taking longer than usual. And if this is what it usually takes, I consider that unacceptable. 2) The server wasn't super friendly - he didn't introduce himself and seemed annoyed that we didn't order alcohol. We had to waive him down to put in our app order, which we were ready to do when he asked about drink orders, but didn't have a chance because when we said just water, he was like, ok, and walked away. 3) I got mashed potatoes instead of sweet potatoes. After waiting for 45 minutes, I wasn't going to send back for the correct side. And the mashed potatoes were good. It's a nice ambiance and seems to be one of the nicer restaurants in the city. I would give it another shot and hope I get a different server and service is a little quicker (or we are given the expectation up front that it will be taking longer). read more

Oh no! What happened to my favorite restaurant in Sioux Falls??? I come through Sioux Falls every spring and fall and always make certain we stop in here for dinner. This time was such a disappointment. I had the Chilean sea bass and it was barely cooked and was fishy tasting. Chilean sea bass is never fishy so not sure what was going on with my fish. My mom had steak and she said it had absolutely no seasoning on it and the meat was tough. I was still hungry so I asked for some bread and shame on them for serving this cold, dry, flavorless bread rolls - they were awful not to mention they charge $3.00 for bread. The risotto was amazing as always and our service was good so I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 star. I think we'll look for somewhere else to eat the next time we're driving through Sioux Falls. read more

We have eaten there in the past, but they moved across the street to a Radisson hotel walking through the lobby and down the hall. It's not very appealing by the time we found the restaurant. I really didn't wanna eat there. I'm sure the food is still good, but the ambience just didn't have it there is an entrance off the bike path and I'm sure it's nicer than going through the hotel. read more

We would have asked to move, but since they had finished their meal and gotten their check we kept thinking they would leave! The place is situated in an office type building, which some folks may find a little odd, but they did a great job with the decor inside the restaurant. They offer daily specials as well a good selection off their menu items. They gave us complimentary sorbet topped with champagne before our main course. I really enjoyed their sea scallops. The presentation was superb with the prosciutto and mascarpone stuffed crepes next to them. I just wished there were more scallops. We had a fabulous meal here. It's located in an odd space (first floor of an office building?), but once you step inside the restaurant it's great. There's a bar area, a pianist, a patio, and the main dining area. Our server was new and struggled a bit with remembering things. But that's forgivable. And it was busy night too. We started with the chislic - a South Dakota must. The Asian peanut butter dipping sauce was one of our favorites. The scallops dish was amazing! It was served on top of rolled crepes. It sounds like an odd combination, but it worked incredibly well. It was one of the best dishes I've ever experienced. (And I think that's saying a lot.) Don't waste your money or time. I recently tried Ode to Food. While the bar / restaurant comes across as a nice semi upscale establishment. I quickly found it to be nothing short of poor With more emphasis on presentation than on quality. Upon my recent visit I ordered the black and blue burger Cooked medium. When served, It came out looking very nice. What i truly disn't care for is a burger that fell apart into mess before I've taken a single bite. Nor did I care for it being undercooked. The meal was ultimately sent this back to the kitchen informing them that was unacceptable practice. Following, the service went downhill quickly with added attitude from our server, as she tried hurrying our party out. At no time was I offered an alternative or a refund. In fact when I asked for a manger I was denied being told I was expected to pay the full bill by the server for poor service and food. If You decide to go I'd go prepared for bad service, bad food, and overpriced undercooked low grade food that I wouldn't serve as slop to the pigs. read more

I came in here for dinner when I was in the area for the weekend. I was able to get a seat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. I ordered pasta with salmon on top. The food took a long time to come out (which isn't a huge issue, especially with staffing shortages). However, my issue was that the salmon was raw in the middle. I was only able to eat a little bit of it (the cooked portion) but then left most of it untouched. read more

Went last to have dinner as a recommendation from a local. Ordered bruschetta appetizer and it was quite tasty along with a Moscow mule. Entrees ordered at our table were chicken lettuce wraps- very good, scallops dinner- very tasty, and my husband ordered the 12 oz ribeye for $38- the chef does not know how to cook steak. Way over cooked and no kind of crust or crisp on outside. Advised server of this and offered to bring a new steak after my husband ate 4 bites of it and when we said we didn't want a new steak they offered free dessert. Quite frankly the cost of ribeye should have been removed it was that bad. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff but they don't know how to cook steak. Very unfortunate. read more

The service was absolutely terrible me and my friend went there for a meal before prom we set a reservation early and got to the restaurant early we were seated instantly but the problems started when we got our drinks. I was the third one to order a drink and I walked away to use the rest room after everyone ordered their drinks and I come back to the table and everyone but me has a drink so we call down the waitress and remind her what I got and while that was happening she talks to me like a baby. Then the food problem happened we ordered and waited an hour and a half for our food to come out, groups that were bigger than us and arrived later than us got their food first and by the time we got ours 3 of us had cold meals and 3 of us had nearly raw meals. This place has the worst service and the most distasteful food for high prices. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more

Ode to Food was something I tried first during the pandemic, and always wanted to go back. They were open for lunch, then stopped serving lunch, and have since started to serve lunch again. I was very pleased to find this out, and a friend and I recently went to try it. The menu is substantial with a variety of delicious sounding sandwich and salad options, as well as a full bar. The IPA on tap was was reasonably priced at $6 a glass. I had their version of a blue cheese burger with bacon with a side of fries, and my friend had their blackened tuna burger with a side caesar salad. Overall, both plates were executed well, and my burger was sizable and topped with delicious crispy onion. A couple of critiques, nothing major, but something that prevented me from pushing the review to five stars: while I did order the burger medium well, it was definitely very well cooked - a note to self to make sure to just say medium next time; and the blackened tuna burger, while seared perfectly was a little strangely a little cold. I've been eyeing Ode to Food and Drinks the last year as my Sioux Falls visits had become more frequent. We called pretty last minute on a Saturday night and managed to get a late reservation. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very modern, and clean during our visit. Our server was exceptional, and not overbearing! Aside from that, the most exciting part of Ode to Food and Drinks was the wide variety of fresh options on the menu! We started the night with bruschetta, all offering different flavor pairings across the variety. The palate cleanser between the bruschetta and our main entrees was also a nice touch. For entrees we went with the Blackened Sea Bass and the Sea Scallops. Both were presented beautifully and were good portions for a fine dine restaurant. The scallops seemed to be slightly over cooked, and shrunken a touch, but the flavors presented on the plate were very good. The Sea Bass was easily one of the best pieces of fish I've had in the Midwest! The flavors of the flaky, moist fish and the Cajun style rice were all perfect! This is certainly a place we will try again, it's one of the pricier Sioux Falls eats, but the quality was worth it. I'm excited to try some of the Keto menu in the future! read more

We arrived at happy hour and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and seemed brand new, however she was not experienced behind the bar. She carried a list with her as she made drinks. This appeared to be a decent bar so she should of had someone to shadow. The Bang Bang Pork bombs were something we've never had and they were the most delicious things we've had in a long time. It was pork shank with a light coating. Our entrees were very good as well. The Sea Scallops were tasty and included savory crepes and the Salmon was also enjoyable. We went there, had live music really nice. So we thought. They talk about good food but I ordered a simple jalapeños burger and it came out like a open face sandwich. They talk about the meat but with that "jalapeños potato soup" They ruin any flavor of the meat. 21 dollar burger I wouldn't pay 10 for. I ordered the roasted sweet potatoes and they sucked. How do u mess up sweet potatoes? by putting dill or sage. Or whatever on it. All in all I think they are trying way too hard to make simple dishes. Be simple but be great. We had a pretty fantastic lunch here on our 20 hour driving tour of five states. We hit Sioux Falls for lunch and this was the place we selected. The summer weather was amazing so we sat outside and enjoyed the day! There is a nice view of a river and riverwalk with flowers and plants and stuff. For food, we had a ghost pepper burger which really wasn't that hot, some fries and a soggy set of sweet potato chips. It was so refreshing to be outside that we just made the best of it! We will likely never come to South Dakota again but it was fun the check it out! read more

The Sea Scallops entree is one of my husband's and my top 3 dinners anywhere in the world. The scallops are always done to perfection and the crepes with prosciutto & mascarpone are flavorful. The grilled asparagus is just the right vegetable with these and the lemon thyme sauce adds the perfect touch to the entire plate. We also enjoy their Chislic for an appetizer; so tender! For dessert, I got the chocolate chip creme brulee and hubby got the blueberry creme brulee (we agreed the chocolate chip was slightly better) - very rich and delicious. Our companion got the mixed berry cheesecake and it was also excellent. The presentation of each course is also very well done, and the service is always impeccable. I have been wanting to try Ode to Food for a while and I couldn't have been happier with the dining experience I had! We arrived around 6:45pm on a Tuesday night and there were 5 people in our party. They do require a mask and our server was masked. We entered and were seated immediately. I'm not sure how the seating was before covid but the layout is very open and there is plenty of room between tables. We ordered drinks and bruschetta to start. The bruschetta was great and our server was awesome and had great entree recommendations. Prior to our food coming out we were served an absolutely delicious sweet palate cleanser. I ordered the sea bass with the red curry sauce, the sea bass was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very good. Our table also ordered the duck, scallops, tortellini carbonara with chicken and shrimp and the chislic. The sea scallops were so delicious! Everyone raved about their food and was absolutely satisfied. They also brought out these yummy little cookie bites for everyone after we finished our meals. The food does take some time to be prepared but so worth the wait. We will definitely be back. I was happy to learn that they have events that are several courses along with beverage pairings. Ode is in the fist floor of an office building. If you're not familiar with the location it can be confusing as the signage isn't great. When you go through the revolving door, the elevators are directly in front of you and Ode is to the left. I grabbed a seat at the bar and asked the bartender for her recommendation. She rattled off the 3 most of expensive entrees. I always wonder if they are the most expensive items because they are the best or if the server is just trying to up sell. Either way, I wasn't particularly hungry so I just went with the Hawaiian Egg rolls and the Chislic. I got the Ghost Pepper and Asian sauce with the Chislic. I wasn't sure what to expect for the Chislic. The breading was very light. The chunks of sirloin were pretty tender. The ghost pepper sauce made the dish. It's a thick, creamy sauce. There's a little spice but it wasn't anything out of control. The Asian sauce was nice to mix in for a sweet bite every now and again but the pepper cheese was definitely the way to go. The egg rolls were a little disappointing. The presentation was done well. There wasn't much flavor beyond the bed of chutney. The pork was chunky. It's probably more authentic that way but I would have preferred it to be shredded. I'm not sure the shrimp fits in here other than making it Hawaiian. Next time I'm in town I'd give them another try. Maybe I'll get something off the entree menu. read more

The highlight of my stop in at Sioux Falls, SD. This place offers a wonderful experience to wine and dine for a great price. It's located INSIDE of the stone building and the environment is beautiful. I came on a day that wasn't busy (Tuesday night) and happy hour. Wine was only $3 and I was offered a pallet cleanser (strawberry sorbet and a touch of champagne) between my wine and meal. My waiter, Braden was a star. He was so tentative and made sure I was satisfied my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer (chicken tostada dip and deep fried tortilla chips) and an entree (brisket burger with ghost pepper cheese). My taste buds were dancing as they've gotten that burger an appetizer down to a T with the flavors! Very balanced and the tomatoes even had some seasoning which was a nice touch. I also ordered the creamer brûlée that was torched right in front of me. This place is just average. I will give it kudos for it's location. It is right on the river and next to the Arc of Dreams. The service was midpoint; however, the food was below average. Especially at the prices they charge. I got the ribeye steak. Requested middle rare. It was over cooked. It lacked seasoning and the risotto lacked flavor. If you're looking to try something specific to South Dakota, chislic is dish with origins traced back to the state. It's a pretty straightforward plate, cubed red meat, but it was prepared perfectly here. Delicious medium rare top sirloin, with two nummy dipping sauces. Ghost pepper sauce, and peanut sauce! I couldn't decide which I enjoyed more. The ghost pepper allowed the flavor of the meat to shine through a little more, and the peanut sauce was more flavorful and unique. The salmon flatbread reminded me of salmon sushi with cream cheese. The crispy crust balanced out the softness of the toppings, however, I would have liked another bright flavor to cut natural smell of raw fish. We went during happy hour on a Saturday (starts at 3pm). $10 apps, and $4 select beer. This would be a spendier spot if you go for dinner. Beautiful location, patio overlooking water with mellow live music. After you finish your meal, walk down by the water and watch kayakers float by. Stopped in here for lunch on the way to the airport at the end of a business trip and absolutely loved the walleye sandwich with roasted sweet potatoes as my side. Light, flaky, crispy, and large. Had a great iced latte to wash it all down because, hey, I hadn't had any coffee yet! The ambience is surprising if you've never been here before. It's located on the bottom floor of an office building next to the river, so you don't know what to expect. But when you walk in, you are pleasantly surprised with a great table-service dining room that's very comfortably appointed. I wouldn't be afraid to order pretty much anything here, and it's a stone's throw from the river, which makes for a comfortable walk to burn a few calories off when the weather's right. :) read more

We sat inside and they had a gentleman playing the keyboard and singing and it was just loud enough in Ted background to not interrupt conversations.
