Very rude DJ. Don't ask them play a song or a specific genre of music. They consider that rude.

Before The DJ Crew, the previous DJs we spoke to were not professional and had very poor salesmanship and communication skills. In each case, the conversation went like this: "My name's so-and-so, I'm a DJ, here's a list of all the things and services I offer. I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions and write the information down. (goes on for a while) Now that we're done, do you want to hire me?" Contrast the above with the DJ Crew. My fiancee and I had a long and very enjoyable conversation with John Kerata, one of the co-founders of the DJ Crew. Rather than simple question-and-answer, we had long discussions about many aspects of the wedding. John asked lots of follow-up questions, made recommendations (and revised them!), and more than anything, was sensitive to our concerns! 5 stars. This is real customer service! read more

We chose The DJ Crew based on their high reviews on The Knot, and I am so glad we chose them! John, one of the owners, took the time to talk to me on the phone to answer my questions before booking with them. He was down to earth and honest. For example, when I asked about the uplighting, he told me that it didn't make sense to get it based on all the natural light we had at the reception venue we chose. John also would call me promptly after I emailed him questions throughout the planning process. Their planning website was easy to use, and their services are very affordable compared to other DJ companies with high ratings. We also used their Photo Booth services, which was an excellent decision! The Photo Booth attendant, Beth, was so kind. She even took the time to show the 5yo flower girl how the Photo Booth worked. On the day of the wedding, we had Steve as our lead DJ and Jason as the DJ assistant. They were both professional and did an amazing job of keeping the dance floor full throughout the reception! I also appreciated how Steve would make announcements throughout the evening that helped keep our reception running smoothly. I highly recommend The DJ Crew! read more

Lead DJ Mike Dixon and assistant DJ Ryan Fuller are the entire reason for this four-star rating. Lock them both in for your next event immediately. We hired the DJ Crew for our December wedding in our hometown of Kent. We don't live in the area anymore but really believe in supporting local businesses. We had seen the DJ Crew over the years at other weddings and knew that how well the company did depended entirely on which DJs the company assigned to weddings. We have known Ryan for years and requested him; but that still left the issue of a lead DJ who would also MC and who would understand that we had very strong views on the music at both our ceremony and our reception. Most of our interactions from September (when we hired the DJ Crew) through November (just two weeks before our wedding) were with one of the co-owners. The experience -- sporadic engagement, air of superiority and antiquated online "planning system" -- left us very nervous about our decision to hire the DJ Crew. The company doesn't assign a lead DJ to work with clients until a week before the event. That created a significant amount of anxiety for a Type-A person like me and for a music-lover like my husband. We had spent many, many evenings over several months mapping out every piece of the night in music that meant a lot to us, and we had very strong opinions about our DJs not taking over the event but rather complementing it. It wasn't until Mike reached out to us 10 days before the event to inform us that he was our lead DJ that we breathed a sigh of relief. He was generous with his time and patient as he listened to our vision. He offered suggestions throughout an hourlong conversation, and it was clear that he understood us and was on the same page with us. He was super easy to work with and was easy to get ahold of. He took care of last-minute requests, like the need for two mic stands for the ceremony -- which we didn't realize we needed until the rehearsal the night before the wedding. Mike and Ryan were nothing short of spectacular on our wedding day. The ceremony music -- 40 minutes of seating music, along with processional and recessional songs -- the cocktail hour music, the dinner music and, most importantly, the dancing music was simply fantastic. The followed our direction to a T for the ceremony, and mixed in our requests for the cocktail hour and dinner music with other popular selections. The dance music rocked; both read the audience very well and scripted the night so the dance floor was always packed. Mike was a fantastic MC. He kept the trains running on time without becoming the center of attention. Many of our wedding guests remarked how great the music was, and we couldn't agree more. The only area for improvement on the day of was the equipment; at times, the speakers were a bit scratchy, leading us to wonder about the quality of the equipment. Mike and Ryan are fantastic, and a great team. And we strongly encourage you to hire them for your next event! read more
