When my ex husband filed for his pension in England and needed a copy of our divorce papers we discovered that our divorce had never been finalized. I have used The Document people three times. The first two times, I used them to start corporations. They were very professional, detail-oriented, and helpful for the service that I needed. I had no complaints and enjoyed working with them! However, the third time I used The Document People was to file for a non-profit corporation. I do not recommend them for this service. If you want the IRS to give 501(c)3 status to your non-profit, The Document People will not file the initial paperwork properly in order to achieve IRS approval. Yes, they will help you file the Articles of Incorporation and you will get state approval to open a bank account, but the Articles will not be sufficient later when you need the IRS to approve them. I ended up having to pay another company to re-send the proper forms, so The Document People were a waste of money for non-profit work. Their service is generally OK, but make sure you read their contract before you start service with them. They essentially won't guarantee anything, even if they file your paperwork incorrectly, you still have to pay them. Also, they don't do custom work - it is just stock forms and documents for general use. This isn't necessarily bad, but they may not be exactly what you need. I still recommend them for regular corporations, just not non-profits or anything customized. read more

They did all of our estate planning/health care paperwork for $600 - that is really hard to beat! This is a no-frills alternative to going to a traditional lawyer (we set up a living will, trust, durable power of attorney, health care proxy) and while I'm sure that meant a litle more work on our end, I could not be more satisfied with their service. They conducted everything (except signing the papers) via email, which was terrific, and they have Saturday office hours for when we went in to sign the paperwork. Petra was very knowledgeable and very responsive to all the questions we had. Mirsa did the actual signing; she was very patient and knowledgeable and went through the documents thoroughly, answering all our questions along the way. Definitely would recommend them! read more

Bless the Document People! I'm giving them a review of five stars due to their excellent display of integrity. I recently attempted to register a business with the State of California, which was rejected for rather specious reasons (another story). The Secretary of State for California was supposed to return my registration form to me at my address in SF, but for some bizarre reason, they sent that form to The Document People here in Santa Monica, along with the two checks I had included with that form. The good people at The Document People could have done something annoying like trash my form, or even worse, attempted to cash my checks in some way. Instead, their good people typed a formal response to the examiner at the Secretary of State's office including my original forms, my two checks, and the rejection form! Thankfully this time, the Secretary of State's office accepted my form and approved my business registration! If I were to do it all over, I would definitely hire The Document People because: 1) they operate with integrity; 2) they know what they're doing; 3) they could have made my life much easier if I had just used them to register my business in California with them in the first place. Very disturbing experience, Walked in and a non reactive gentleman with an accent was sitting at the desk. I brought in a trust and a deed to notarize, perhaps record. This guy could not identify or read the documents I brought in. Nevertheless we did the notary, when I got home I realized he did not notarize a section in my trust, he charged me $50 for 3 notaries. This guy is a wacko job, he acted like he was high. I regret going there, now I have to complete the job to notarize since he could not. Not to mention he was not sure how much it would cost to record a deed, he also stated it would not be guarantee! I'm like WTF is this guy and business?!?!, wow , read more
