I am writing this review to warn both new and current clients about the highly questionable and unconscionable billing practices of Keystone Law Group. My experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. Over a 40-month period, I was charged an astronomical $796,292 in legal fees, despite absolutely no results being achieved. To make matters worse, the only significant action taken was a single deposition. Additionally, when I was trying to settle my balance at Fee Arbitration, they added an additional $50,000 of "hard costs" and I had to argue with them that they had ALREADY included the hard costs in their monthly billing. They finally conceded that the hard costs had been billed but it sure didn't stop them from trying to get an additional $50,000 in double billing! The first year alone $250,000 was billed, which included Petitions filed and some discovery work. However, once the one-year mark hit, all forward progress in the case ceased entirely. For the remaining 28 months, the firm did nothing but drag out the process, contributing to an appalling increase in billing - yet no tangible results. This law firm utilized a team of 21 attorneys on my case. They engaged in double and triple billing practices, adding up costs for the same work over and over. This firm clearly operates on an exploitative model, designed to maximize fees while offering no meaningful advancement in the case. Their approach focused entirely on delaying and stretching the case out, with no regard for delivering results. The entire experience was an attempt to drain every penny of my inheritance without any conscience or empathy for the emotional and financial toll it took on me. If you're seeking competent, ethical legal assistance, stay far away from this firm. I strongly urge others to consider all options before choosing this firm. Zero stars for this Law Firm! They literally stole $5000+ from my wife to represent her in a Probate Law suit! They asked for $10k retainer fee, then billed her for reviewing the case $800+ per hour. They never went to court or never filed or answered any paperwork from the opposing counsel. I am very upset these dirt bags robbed us! They billed us close to $950 per hour for 6 hours of supposed work. Buyer beware or get robbed. I would run! Got a bunch of money back too, when I threatened to report them to the bar. That says a LOT. ALWAYS RECORD YOUR CALLS, FOLKS. I warned them I was going to be doing that and they put their whole leg in their mouths. Apparently, this poor guy doesn't have a CLUE how to settle an estate, although I was as patient as I could be, knowing that he's fairly NEW to this sort of thing, & I TRIED to cut him some slack, but it cost me dearly. I also found him to be rather insulting & elitist during a very difficult time. I certainly was NOT ADVISED as to any OPTIONS(that I kept bringing up) with the exception of sellsellsell it(cheap) to the other trustee, them trying to jump on the gravy-train for an immediate settlement payoff(there was no contest of distribution, which was all they wanted to 'handle;' - something that was already DONE, lol); whatever the other side wanted -was what they tried to get me to co-operate with. Me last. Additionally, he had to "confer" with his "boss" at every. single. step., more than doubling my "bill' because HE didn't know what he was doing! They charged me for both Shawn Kerendian's time AND Roee's LEARNING CURVE! Over and over and over! & over and over a few more times! When you throw a bunch of money at people who profess to be "professional" and to have the ACUMEN to handle your case(yet can't manage their office effectively) and find yourself having to re-align your "attorney" with state statutes & your RIGHTS, then they get mad when you NAIL them down & then resort to a blatant lie to avoid even ATTEMPTING to complete the task you THOUGHT you hired them for(a simple petition for a trust accounting), stating that the trustee had NO obligation to provide an accounting(something that my statement contradicts in black and white: 17200. (a) Except as provided in Section 15800, a trustee or beneficiary of a trust may petition the court under this chapter concerning the internal affairs of the trust or to determine the existence of the trust.), it's WAY past time to FIRE them. Kept trying to get me to hand over my interests to my opposition instead of PROTECTING them! They TALK a LOT, impart nothing, try to keep you on the phone with manipulative vacillating entreaties solely designed to charge you(double), trying to keep you from FIRING THEM(for at least the THIRD time). That was in THEIR interest, MOST definitely not mine, and they STILL CHARGED ME FOR IT(first tried to convince me that my sibs "could be sued" for their share of expenses if they profited- later it was that the trust documents were too vague to look into the administration of the trust at all... contradictory language and behaviors throughout. WHILE they had NO INTENTION of DOING anything that would garner expense returns from my sibs, ANYWAY). They won't LET you dismiss their services until they blow through your retainer, at LEAST. Blew through 5K in less than a month(and made a grab at my estate), and when that was gone, his $50 an hr phone calls, messages and zero-information emails(sending me my own statements that I sent THEM & CHARGING ME FOR THEM) ceased, and finally- he could allow the secretary to call me at a MUCH lower rate to leave a message requesting a call, lol! I said, "Fine, as long as you understand that i'll be recording it." THAT is what got me my MONEY BACK. Hiring this firm was the worst financial decision I've made on this journey. In the end, they admitted that the Bank of the West(suspected complicit co-trustee with suspicious unproven/unfounded expenses) was just too big for them to take on. Well, THAT certainly cut our ties. But they wouldn't admit to it until they'd BLED ME as far as they could take it. I found them to be completely ineffectual, deliberately misleading, & regard them as your typical wholly fundamentally dishonest lawyers. I would HIGHLY advise against doing(trying to do) business here. read more
