In-house framing service and above is a professional photo studio. There's a smattering of antique and flea market type items sold here with prices definitely on the higher side of things, but still a good variety of items. Notable collection of vintage children's clothing (especially dresses and coats). Tiny selection of gourmet food and drink up front, which was probably the most impressive part of the stop for me. This is to the right on entry, and included a range of nicer cheeses and a pretty good mix of Fentiman's beverages. I'd probably rate this store higher but I overheard the man working there asking other shoppers where they came from -- and then talking negatively about their towns in this region. That is a huge *no* in my book and was the main reason I cut my visit short. Still, this is probably a great place to check out for some of the finer things in life if you live in southeast Kansas.

It's that good. Seriously. VERY clean and well organized thrift store and what they sometimes lack in selection is more than made up for by the friendly service and low prices. I have never walked out of here empty handed and have shopped here on and off since I was a teenager (20 years ago). It is a well run store and the larger stores and secondhand chains could take a lot of tips from them, to be honest! When you walk in there's a dry erase board posted straight ahead with the day's sales on it and they are always a very good variety and offer extra value. I highly recommend this place. It is not hard to find, either. Just a block east of Broadway and a block west of St. Mary's Colgan school in downtown Pittsburg.

Fresh eggs from a nearby farm were only $3 a dozen and found in a cooler in an adjoining room; that's a real bargain with grocery prices rising. I bought a blue and white speckled crock missing it's handle for $2 and a beautiful tablecloth for $5. Lots of pricier items, too, if that's your thing.

I've purchased several ribeyes a couple of fillets, pork chops, stew meat, ground beef, breakfast sausage and both pork and beef brauts. As far as the steaks and chops go, they have been EXCELLENT every single time. Most people are use to grocery store beef which is corn fed. The Painted Barrels beef and pork are family raised and pasture fed locally, and the freshness just stands out! I've never had anything that wasn't perfectly tender and flavorful. The meats always cook nicely both on the grill and in a pan. The sausages are far more flavorful than anything you can buy from corporation, and you can REALLY taste the freshness in the ground beef. The meat is very fairly priced for the exceptional quality, and in my opinion, very reasonable. Can you find cheaper meat out there? Yes... but life's too short to eat Walmart steak, and why not support a small business? It is my plan to start buying pretty much all my beef and pork from Painted Barrels.
