The owner has written a book about Girard and what life was like growing up there. I found it to be an interesting read because I visited Girard as a child to visit my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ask about consignment sales for those things you want to part with but need a nice place to sell them. Stop by the homemade ice cream counter in the corner of the store and enjoy a yummy treat. I was there one day when the high school baseball team stopped in for some ice cream. Such nice young men enjoying their time together. Another time a group of teenagers were sitting on the front porch visiting. Such a refreshing sight to see no phones, just conversation! Check-out the bathroom walls! This is a store for all ages. A place for learning, reminiscing, and to purchase those things you have been seeking for a long time. It's a small business so cash is always appreciated. Located on the Girard square across from the courthouse. Parking is free right at the front door. There is also a ramp for easy access. Inventory is constantly changing so stop in often!

Instead, they are 3 blocks down on the same side of Broadway, in the former "Jean Scene" store. Look for the red awning. Anyway, with that said...I have always liked shopping at Doggie Bag for their low prices and overall higher quality of merchandise, especially regarding women's clothing. The new store is awesome, it is much cleaner and smells nicer and the prices are still low. Kudos to them! The store is really nice and I will probably shop here even more than I did in the past. I am not in possession of full details but I know Doggie Bag operates in support of the Southeast Kansas Humane Society and is a huge source of their funding. I am glad to patronize this business!

I love this thrift store. It is a favorite of mine and my husband's and because it's only open…read more(currently) the FIRST Saturday of each month (in addition to most weekdays I think...probably best to call ahead and find out) we plan any trip to SEK around St. Mary's Goodwill's open Saturday weekends. It's that good. Seriously. VERY clean and well organized thrift store and what they sometimes lack in selection is more than made up for by the friendly service and low prices. I have never walked out of here empty handed and have shopped here on and off since I was a teenager (20 years ago). It is a well run store and the larger stores and secondhand chains could take a lot of tips from them, to be honest! When you walk in there's a dry erase board posted straight ahead with the day's sales on it and they are always a very good variety and offer extra value. I highly recommend this place. It is not hard to find, either. Just a block east of Broadway and a block west of St. Mary's Colgan school in downtown Pittsburg.

A few things were a bit overpriced but that's to be expected. Not everyone can know the original price of everything. Honestly, it's a REALLY good store. I hope that it will be packed with a lot more stuff next time we come! I'd love to spend an hour or two digging around. Go check it out!
