The sports hall is spacious but dated and in need of some draft proofing as well as better lighting. The availability of bookable slots is restricted as the facility is also used by the nearby Comprehensive School which is joined to the rear entrance to the building. There is a small but modern gym with all of the usual aerobic kit. What the centre may lack in equipment and size it makes up for with a friendly and efficient staff.

The other pool is the large one which is freezing but still good fun at a weekend they put floats out for the kids to play with. There is plenty of vending machines for drinks and snacks and a seating area. The changing rooms are large with ladies, mens and family rooms. There is also a good gym and many rooms used for fitness. There is a bar area and two large halls where they play football but these rooms can also be hired out for childrens partys with bouncey castle or wedding. There is many car boot sales and other gigs like boxing held in these rooms to. Great prices and great for functions friendly helpful staff.

They also have a gym, a snooker table, badminton courts etc. It's a really good facility. There is even a local library and a cafe. Often they have special children's parties at Christmas but you have to book your place early.

Parking is completely free around the centre, though beware of rolling trolleys in high winds! There's also a good bus service and for anyone walking in, I wouldn't recommnd the walk alone but all footpaths are safe and a way from the road. The Rainbow leisure centre has a main hall, squash courts, a pool room and bar, a library, a cafe, a gym, pool and a smaller hall usually used for aerobics classes or bouncy castle parties. It's open 7 days a week and offers pretty much any sport you can ask for. You can hire it out for quite a few things, I've been to Bouncy castle parties here and I have been to an 18th here once. The library isn't always open though so look up the times before you go. The cafe is situated above the hall so any parents can look down and watch their children in various sports. Prices are moderate, but you can only start to book cours 24 hours before unless you're a member at the leisure centre. By joining you get to go to a number of places around Middlesbrough. The staff are all really polite and I only have one small annoyance about this place that because of the balcony you're often subject to people leaning over and wolfwhistling as you play badminton or sqaush.

It has the usual play frame with slides, climbs and running around playing with balls area, and as you would expect from a new centre this is high quality, well thought out and immaculately clean. There is also trees the kids can harness up to climb. They can do this as many times as they want included in the price. Best of all there is an outdoor area which is all sand floored with great play things, water areas and challenging climbing stuff for all ages. This is excellent and all the kids seem to really enjoy this area. There are also some small animals rabbits and guinea pigs that are brought out for petting. Upstairs there are bumper cars. You have to pay a pound extra for these. The cafe is a step up from what you generally find in these sort of places, proper coffee and freshly squeezed juice. My one negative is the price, you have to pay 5 per family to register to go in, and also you have to pay 2 for each adult who goes in. This is not normal practice at soft play centres, and even with the high quality and extra activities on offer- thats what this is. I thought it was worth it as my child really enjoyed the place and we stayed for ages, but for cheaper similar fun try PlayShack at Shildon, or Ruff and Tumble at Newton Aycliffe.
