The Door Christian Fellowship is an abusive religious organization, with a long history of disgruntled ex-members. It is listed in many places as a religious cult. Manipulation and Control - abusive groups are characterized by social dynamics where fear, guilt, and threats are routinely used to produce unquestioning obedience, group conformity, and stringent tests of loyalty to the leaders are demonstrated before the group. Biblical concepts of the leader-disciple relationship tend to develop into a hierarchy where the leader's decisions control and usurp the disciple's right or capacity to make choices on spiritual matters or even in daily routines of what form of employment, form of diet and clothing are permitted. Elitism and Persecution - abusive groups depict themselves as unique and have a strong organizational tendency to be separate from other bodies and institutions. The social dynamism of the group involves being independent or separate, with diminishing possibilities for internal correction and reflection. Outside criticism and evaluation is dismissed as the disruptive efforts of evil people seeking to hinder or thwart. Life-style and Experience - abusive groups foster rigidity in behavior and in belief that requires unswerving conformity to the group's ideals and social mores. Authority and Power - abusive groups misuse and distort the concept of spiritual authority. Abuse arises when leaders of a group arrogate to themselves power and authority that lacks the dynamics of open accountability and the capacity to question or challenge decisions made by leaders. The shift entails moving from general respect for an office bearer to one where members loyally submit without any right to dissent. 4.Paranoia, inordinate egotism or narcissism, and insecurity by the leaders 6.Inordinate attention to maintaining the public "image" of the ministry and bambasting of all "critics"; 9.Members are required to obtain the approval or "witness" of their leader(s) for decisions regarding personal matters; 10.Frequent preaching from the pulpit regarding not getting out from under the "spiritual covering" of the leadership by leaving the church/group or disobeying the leaderships' dictates and demands of you; 11.Members departing without the prior permission and blessing of the leadership leave the group under a cloud of manufactured suspicion, shame, and slander; Agnes and John Lawless argue in The Drift into Deception that there are eight characteristics of spiritual abuse 1.charisma and pride, 2.anger and intimidation, 3.greed and fraud, 4.immorality, 5.Enslaving authoritarian structure, 6.Exclusivity, 7.Demanding loyalty and honor, 8.New revelation. Any semblance of anything other than total and unquestioning obedience to the desires and counsel of the church's leadership chain is considered rebellion and insubordination, and simply is not tolerated. Members live under the constant threat of being branded with the Scarlet Letter "R" for "Rebel," openly denounced and shamed from the (bully-)pulpit, and consequently shunned by the "covenant-community" (church) for failure to comply with the unwritten, unspoken rules and expectations established by the leadership. An oppressive performance-based approval and promotion system keeps members in constant internal turmoil and fear as they jump through all the hoops the spiritual taskmasters put before them, in an attempt to seek their leaders' approval and favor." Been attending the Door Christian Fellowship for 2 years now, still glad to say it's still a place where Christians can still try to be like Jesus Christ. Christianity has been a wild ride of ups and downs, but I thank the Lord for this church, that has helped and encouraged me through my hardest of times. There are very valuable friendships I've made these past 2 years, that have helped me in many of my life situations. Our Pastor has been very helpful through preaching, meeting with me personally, even calling me throughout the day, just to make sure I'm doing alright. People in this church care about other people, matter of fact it is their motto to be "People-minded". I've read some of the other reviews about the church, and I'm actually sorry those people who had a bad experience. In my 2 years attending this church, I can't ever say that I've been abused in any way, made to think a certain way, or coerced into anything I didn't want to do. They simply encourage people to live for God, have faith in Jesus Christ, and form a relationship with them and his people through reading the bible. As a church we believe Christianity isn't something to be ashamed of, and we proclaim, testify and evangelize the Christian faith. The Door is focused on living for Jesus Christ, teaching the fundamentals of biblical worship and living, and creating a community that can enjoy family, friendship and worship. This church has a history of 20 years serving the community, and many of it's member are still here in the church. I think what I enjoy best about The Door Christian Fellowship, are the testimonies of it's members, when you hear of lives that have been changed by the power of Jesus Christ. Ex-gang members, ex-drug addicts and alcoholics, people who lives were affected by sexual violations, depression, anger and hatred, medical issues, all found some freedom or release because of the bible and Jesus Christ. This church saved my life. Couldn't ask for more supportive and understanding people, everyone from the pastor to the ushers. Very safe place with people keeping watch at all times of service! Nursery for the young kids & even childrens church for the older kids. Everything in this church is organized and clean including the people! Live worship music to start off every service. Not to mention the awesome concerts EVERY SATURDAY! People of all ages and color come to this church. If you want to be delivered and are looking for a real move of God, look NO further then The Door Christian Fellowship, where the gospel is preached straight out of The Holy Bible. I for one am a 14 year old man of God and I believe that this is a beautiful ministry they have here. They are reaching out to the lost sheep of this world and showing them that God can really do something in their lives. Acts 20:28 says "Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God,[a] which he bought with his own blood." This is awesome that these people answered the Gods' calling to them and how people are rising up to the things that God called them to do. This church is more than I've asked for. I used to criticize it and judge from what I didn't know but the second I gave this church just one chance, everything changed. My eyes were open wide and I saw what really was happening. I gave my life to Christ October 31st,2018. It's been almost a year later and Im FAMILY to the members of this church and they're my family too! My son and his father now attend. I've never been more welcomed in my life and the best part is.....they preach the gospel, the word, the Bible, the TRUTH!!! I view life completely different. I walk, I talk and I act like I'm a brand new person. God is so good! I know He is because He led me to this church 19 years ago. I was a single mom, newly separated, with 3 kids. God guided me to a loving church family. One who helped me be the mom, friend and sister God intended me to be. I knew I had found a church home when they welcomed me with open arms. The church was only about 15 to 20 people at the time. I've watched us grow into what we are now. All I can say is God is so AMAZING. He saw me through many trials and never left me once. He stood beside me and so did my church. "WACKJOB EXTREMIST NUTCASE" is a cliche to describe anyone who dares to do anything that does not fit into the mainstream of ANY idea. Totally, not a fair review and very biased, if you ask me. I've been there before and while the ideas are definitely NOT mainstream (which today Christianity is hardly mainstream and it is a CHURCH), the people there are nice and there is definitely something different (in a good way) about that place that I haven't seen in a whole lot of other places. The Door has been the foundation in my growth and walk with Christ. In the 20 years I've served in this fellowship I have built friendships with people who are now like my own family! You must leave it to a person to make their own decisions about a church. Their home is where ever they can grow spiritually. It's up to a person's individual conviction that pulls them to a certain place of worship. I love this church and will always back it up. One word to describe the people and the pastor of this congregation. Awesome. From the moment we came in the door we were greeted with a warm friendly inviting atmosphere. The people were more than gracious to our family. The preaching was compassionate and encouraging. This is a church where they preach the true gospel of Jesus Christ. The pastor has a big heart and the congregation is full of truth and the holy spirit.
