Walked in and didn't know what to expect. I just moved to Iowa City and we wanted to try out a couple of bars. Right away locals at the bar were so welcoming! We met two bartenders (Sean and Sean) and both were phenomenal. We played pool and darts and got to try the older Sean's blood Orange shot that he created! We stayed for hours. Such a great atmosphere and great people. Will 100% be coming back *shout out to Linda the local who was so sweet to us!* One more tip, they only take cash!!

    Cold Guinness

My wife and I spent three weeks in Dublin and this is the best bar outside of Ireland. It's cash only so remember to bring some cash. The Guinness is cold and the atmosphere is great. Highly recommend coming here whenever you are in Iowa City.

Best place in town, friendly staff, greatest selection of music, & no one else in town knows how to mix a drink like them. (Sean, Scott, Heahter & Rory are some of the very best) Here's a list of drinks to ask for and who makes the best: Mary's Cherry (Sean) Apple Pie Martini (Scott, tall guy) Chocolatetini *Ask for whip cream & cherry on top Dublin Dawn (Sean) Peaches & Creme (Sean) The Grey Pumpkin (Scott) I'm sure there's more but I can't think of them at the moment

A nice little dive bar. The bartender was really nice and welcoming. Nice spot to stop in for a drink or two.

My favorite bar in Iowa City, with darts and a pool table! Great service! For snacks, all they have are a few types of chips for $1.

I asked three people where we should eat when visiting the University of Iowa. They had a lot of…read moreopinions. Every one of them said Wig & Pen. And so we did. My wife isn't a big pizza fan, so anytime we have an opportunity to pick pizza as a dine-in dinner, and blame it on others, I'm going to take that opportunity. And she loved it too. First for the appetizer, we chose the onion rings. They were really onion straws (remember the old Damon's BBQ Onion Loaf? They're like that!). They were great. A bit messy, but great. For pizza, we went with the thin crust Union Jack, which is basically deluxe: Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, red bell pepper. I loved the way they cut the peppers super thin, and the pizza was fantastic. I'd love to try the other crust/styles as well someday, but the table voted and that's what we landed on. Six stars for the pizza. The restaurant is bigger than it looks, and was very crowded on an early Saturday evening. It is obviously popular, as the inside dining was full and the outdoor patio was nearly as popular. Service was very friendly, and helped us navigate the crust decision. The only downside - and I didn't test them on it - is the 'only one refill' rule on their fountain drinks. I hate this rule almost as much as Mexican restaurants charging for the second basket of chips and salsa. It just makes no sense to me. But I don't think I even finished the first one, so I have no idea if they would have actually charged me if I had !GASP! asked for a third drink. This is a top ranking for me - loved it, will return next time I'm in town. If you're looking for a great pizza place with other dishes on the menu, Wig & Pen is a great choice!
