I came here as I thought there was going to a trivia night, but my information was incorrect. I decided to stay and had a club sandwich and fries. The fries were fresh and hot. They hit the spot! The sandwich was fine, the bread was fresh but the meat was too thick and had more fat on it than I would like. The server was very nice and prompt with refills and the place felt clean. I just felt like the experience was 'okay' and I don't know that I would head back there anytime soon when there is a lot more to explore downtown Cedar Rapids. read more

Last night, I went to Pub 217 on a Tuesday evening. The place was lively, with groups of people on one side and the bar area a bit more relaxed, which is where I sat with my sister. We came for happy hour and ordered an appetizer of wings. The wings were fantastic, and the cocktails were enjoyable, but it did take a while for someone to take our order, which was a little frustrating as I was trying to catch the happy hour specials. Eventually, the bartender came over, apologized for the wait, and was super friendly with a great personality. I've also ordered lunch from here several times, and my favorite dish is the Bruschetta Salad, which I get every time. It's a perfect option when dining with a group. Another thing I love about Pub 217 is the seasonal décor - they always do a great job switching it up throughout the year! read more

This place is amazing! I don't go out in downtown Cedar Rapids very often, so I wasn't aware of this place. I was able to try it for the first time recently, and I can't wait to go back. The pretzel bites are one of the best things I've ever had. I'm usually pretty indifferent to pretzel bites, but these are not your normal pretzel bites. They are toasted and melt-in-your-mouth with a delicious beer cheese dip. I also got a bbq chicken sandwich which was amazing as well. I was so hungry, I chowed down before I could take pics. Best wings I've had in a long time! I initially wasn't planning on going to 217, but had something come up and decided to go there. 12 wings for $9? Sold. I got the sweet sriracha and bourbon bbq. Both were awesome. Pub 217 has one of the best deals in town for wings that you can take to go with COVID. They were crispy, hot, and (I'm going to say it) moist. The ranch was also a good size - not the small one you usually get. The only thing I was disappointed with was the employees were not wearing masks. We walked in with friends to hang out and get a beer. However, it was very loud (even though it wasn't even that busy) and there was not much of a good craft beer selection on tap. We tried to ask the bartender about beer but the bartender was too busy talking to a friend. So instead, we chatted with the bouncer for a while and then decided to leave. Pub 217 is happenin. I can't say I was thrilled to eat here. "Oh great, another Iowan pub." I thought. Boy was I wrong. It was a PERFECTLY Iowan pub. Done right. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. It was surprisingly packed. The location is convenient-- and while you have to pay for street parking-- it's surprisingly not really an issue. While this isn't realllllly a kid-friendly establishment (they don't have a kid's menu) they were super accommodating of my little! Making chocolate milk and having chicken tenders/fries. The food was no frills but solid, menu had all the essentials, pricing on point but what really did it for me was the waitstaff. So attentive, but not clingy. Friendly and knowledgeable. I could totally see stopping in here when going to something in the area, like at the US Cellular Center or Paramount Theater. Their Happy Hour and brunch look amazing! read more

Pretty great place! Came here for dinner and the food and service were both pretty good! It's a law that if a restaurant has pretzels + cheese I have to order them. They're real good here. I approve. For dinner I got the kale salad and it was quite delicious. Fiancé got the shrimp tacos and also loved those. Overall the food was definitely something I'd come back for! Though the only side we can have is the cottage cheese, their mushroom swiss burger and their 'healthy chick' chicken burger are my two rotating favorites here. Out of the food, service, and ambiance it is the ambiance that is this restaurants most admirably quality and it won by far. This is concerning given the fact that there was nothing special about this place I terms of this. It is a bit chaotic and a little stressful on its own. However if you add the poor service quality and the mediocre food, be expected for a disappointing experience. Our server messed up nearly EVERYTHING in our order. We give them two stars only for the fact that they didn't charge us for one order and replaced the other. However we asked for water and we're given none and our requested sides were missed. We first found this place during Restaurant Week 2021. I can't say that I was over the moon about trying another bar in downtown Cedar Rapids, but after trying the food? I'm impressed! We've tried most of the burgers and sandwiches, but the thing I love the most: their hot dogs. When I'm not sure what I'm craving for dinner, this is one of our go-to choices for food to-go. Me and my friend came in on a Thursday in the eary afternoon. As expected for the time and day the place was completely dead, but that didn't stop the waitress from being on the top of her game she was extremely kind and helpful. I've been here twice, both for weekday lunch. Pub 217 is a nice addition to a growing list of downtown restaurants. They seem to be more of a restaurant than a bar, but I haven't seen it at night yet. I don't think I had ever been in this location despite working downtown for most of the last 20+ years. The last business was a gym but you would never know it on the inside as they did a nice job remodeling and keeping the flavor of the historic building. It was obviously build as two separate store fronts and it's a little confusing as to which entrance to use (the one the right). The large horseshoe shaped bar is in the middle with tables on either side. I enjoyed the food both trips and service is prompt and friendly. Like most downtown eateries they have to make hay on the weekday lunches because the night and weekend crowds are either feast (when there's a good event going on) or famine (when there's not). The menu is dominated by burgers, chicken sandwiches and wraps. It's worth a trip. read more

The best bar food in town... by far. The location is great for eating before any downtown CR events, and grabbing drinks after any downtown events. Drinks: one of the few bars around here that actually freshly squeezes their citrus for drinks. Mules are great. The liquor in standard mixed drinks are almost always overpoured (a negative imo, but some like that). Beer is always cold and they have a nice selection of local beers both on tap and bottled/canned. Food: Stupid delicious. I've never had something I didn't like. If you're a first timer I highly suggest the pretzel bites and beer cheese for an app. For main course, the shrimp tacos are banging. The hot dogs are surprisingly tasty, and the burgers are always on point. The fried pickles are spear style and pretty good. French fries are on point and well seasoned... the sweet potato fries are even better if that's your thing. Their salads are the sleeper cell: amazingly good. It shows that their cooks (especially lunchtime) care about putting together a quality product. The corn on the Cobb salad is amazing... as is the steak salad. Generous on toppings and legit romaine... no shitty iceberg lettuce in sight. Most importantly for my fellow midwesterners: THEIR RANCH IS FANTASTIC. Staff: always friendly, never had anything but positive things to say. Atmosphere: Plenty of well placed big TVs, and staff are always willing to put your channel on. There's usually at least one overserved person in this bar, but no disruptions. The touchtunes is kinda a bummer... for some reason they have Tupac blocked but most everything else is available. It's seat yourself so we stood at the bar as it was so full. Took a bit to catch a sergers attention for our drinks, but the drinks came quickly. Wide variety of beers. Well Sunday was my first and last visit to this very unprofessional staffed establishment. I cannot think of a worse experience that I have ever received. It started off with you could tell that our waitress was not happy about being at work. No smiles, no communication, and lack of customer service. From the very beginning there was hostility. We ordered water and instead received sass. When the waters were brought to us, they were placed on the other side of the table and nothing was said. I mean, how hard is it to put the waters that we ordered in front of us and not on the other side of the table? Not a big deal, but a smile and "here's your waters and I'll be right back to take your order" would have been nice. Then since she didn't return to our table, I had to go to the bar to place an order for an appetizer. It took me two attempts to get her to acknowledge that I was speaking to her. Both times, "Ma'am, could I order a basket of fries while we wait for the other two in our party to join us?" After the 2nd attempt, she finally looked at me and asked "Do you want ranch?" in a very irritated voice. Now keep in mind, there was only one other table in there eating and two gentlemen at the bar. We had to ask twice to get a TV turned to a station that had a program that we wanted to watch. Both times we were very polite. Her response after the 2nd request, "I'm working on it." Must take a lot to turn a channel on a TV because it was obvious that she was not busy. Now at this point, we had placed our orders, got our drinks, and was waiting for our food. I finished my beer and sat the empty glass at the end of the table hoping that the waitress would see that I needed a refill. Unfortunately, she was too busy to what looked like she was playing a game and chatting with a gentleman at the bar. So once again, I made my way to the bar. "Ma'am, could I get another beer?", again no response. "Ma'am, can I please get another beer?" Now here is the kicker, the waitress turns to me and FLIPS ME OFF. Can you believe it, who flips off a customer for politely asking for another beer? Needless to say we didn't wait for our food. I turn around and walked to our table and told my group we were leaving and why. As we're walking out we hear the waitress tell the other waitress that she "was just kidding" and "that she thought I was being a dick." Not once did I raise my voice or treat her out of respect. She's very lucky that I didn't open up the "dick side" of my personality and let her know just exactly what I thought of her actions. read more

Our new favorite place to go downtown to eat. Whether it's lunch, happy hour or dinner this place always delivers. A locally owned place, you'll often see the owners there. The people are great and know how to give good service whether they're packed or not. There's a new bar place a couple of doors away on the corner, but their menu can't compare. Going to Pub 217 means you have a wide range of food options. We've been there with groups of 2-7 and the service hasn't wavered. Pick an appetizer, a salad or turn it into a wrap, burgers and sandwiches, etc. have all been delicious. It's hard to not eat every bite so I don't think we've had many leftovers. We love to support local restaurants and with food and service this good it's easy to do. read more
