A very chill local corner gastropub. We visited on what seemed to be a super quiet Sunday night, the only other group were a bunch of loud Australians in the corner. So we decided to sit our quiet Australian selves down in the other corner at a nice big table. The staff were super friendly and helpful, suggesting meal items and helping us choose the wine. We went with the succinctly named "35 day aged roast sirloin of British beef & Yorkshire pudding" and the Wild mushroom gnocchi. The roast beef was very nice, not quite melt in your mouth meat but very close to it. The mushroom gnocchi was super tasty. We also got a chocolate brownie and a sticky date pudding, both were very nice and warm, perfect on a cold wet night. read more

We just got into London last night and were starving. We are staying close to the Easton and had heard some great things. We went last night (7 of us) and were absolutely satisfied with the amazing service and incredibly food and drinks. The ambiance is cozy and beautiful. They have gorgeous down string lights in their windows and their beautiful red booths are comfy and ascetically perfect. The staff was equally wonderful and gave great recommendations. We had incredible burger, steak, sausage, sardines, and the list goes on and on. The dessert was out of this world as well. Great first stop on our trip. The secret Exmouth Market destination. The Easton has been around for years and knows it. It is relaxed and for some reason its backstreet location has remained a secret to the hordes despite its consistent excellence. Came here today for my first meal back in the City after being away and it was the perfect comfort meal (with food to match). I have been going here on and off for years and understandably the quality has gone up and down but today it was really really back to its peak. Perhaps a new chef or perhaps just a general rejuvenation. Hidden away to the side of Exmouth Market, The Easton is everything a gastropub should be, unpretentious, accessible, with good ale kept well (Black Sheep, Yay!), a reasonable selection of lagers (red stripe pub), a reasonable wine list, and stunning comfort food. The menu changes from day to day, but I have yet to have anything that didn't leave me drooling, Sunday arrives and with it one of the best roasts in London, but this is my weekday lunch oasis, letting me escape the stresses of work to chow down on delicious British style dishes, with an occasional Spanish twist; the bocarones on toast are one of the greatest starters I have come across in London (such garlicky goodness) . One of my friends swears the food here is so good it made her cry! The layout is large and airy, a couple of tables perch outside on the pavement around which you can puff away to your hearts content (but only until 10pm). After an absence at weekends over the summer months the resumption of Sunday service at this excellent, well-established venue is very welcome. And even better news is that they have reverted to a proper chef-cooked menu to restore its reputation as one of the best gastropubs in the area for a great roast with friendly, efficient service and a warm ambience. There is currently a tempting range of festive drinks as well as zero alcohol lager on draught. Our office has now been here twice. They are always happy to accommodate us--even at short notice. The first time I called I was trying to make a reservation for 25 people for 12.00 (it was 10.30am). Most restaurants were either booked or were unable to accommodate such a big number at such short notice. Not the Easton, they were happy to accommodate our large group. The wait staff were very attentive despite our numbers and the food was pretty decent. I didn't really like my crab ravioli, but this may have been personal opinion and I may have ordered the wrong thing. Every one else in my group really enjoyed their meals. Thus, we have now visited the Easton twice as an office. Overall, this is a great little pub. However, I didn't find it remarkable, but am very happy with the service they provided. read more

Absolutely fantastic! A bit off the main road, but totally worth it. We came here based on where we were and what was around via Yelp. And boy are we glad we did! Group of 7-- great service and truly delicious food. The mushroom gnocchi was the major star of the night. Creamy, perfectly cooked and a wonderful combination of mushroom flavors. The venison and juniper berry pie- also a huge hit. Tender, juicy and delicious. The vegetable empanadas were a great starter and the crab ravioli was great, too! We have absolutely no complaints! Just a hop, skip and a jump from Exmouth market, and you'll find The Easton tucked away in a much quieter street. This gastropub is a great place to go post work drinks, or during the weekend for a spot of lunch. The open plan interior is quite bare, you have the bar on one side and the space is filled with plain wooden tables and chairs added with the spaces' natural features, from narrow the wooden beams dotted around the room, the large windows. Apparently they do a great Sunday roast and food in general is meant to be good. I have only ever come for a drink. But when I did see that their snack menu did roast potatoes with aioli I just couldn't resist. I had to have it. And the potatoes were done just the way, in my opinion, roasted ones should be like. Last week after work, I wanted to go to a gig in the area. As I was quite hungry, so I looked up a few places and finally went to The Easton. This gastro pub is really a nice place and I quite like the wooden tables. In addition, the staff are very friendly and attentive. I ordered a glass of wine and the Angus bavette steak. The plate looked nice, the steak tasted great, the fries were good, but most of all I liked the sauce Diane. One of the best sauces I had in London! For some reason, I got bread after my main and not before. I did not mind, as I can always enjoy a good bread. And I was not disappointed, the bread tasted delicious and came with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a classy and tasty combination and just what I like. I came here for a little reunion with my friends on a weekday night and it was the perfect place as it's hidden off the main drag in Clerkenwell so stays relatively underground. I had a lovely chat with the bar man who helped me decide what I wanted to drink - Star - as I was pretty flustered after 20 minutes trying to find the place (Easton St is very small indeed). The big tables were large enough for our whole party (there were 10 of us) but the main thing we came here for was the food, which was exceptional. I had good old fashioned chicken pie with mash, and although it was around £12 or £13 it was worth every penny. read more

The Easton is a very nice pub near Farringdon. The interior is spacious and light with quite a few tables. The Sunday roast is not bad, the pork especially is very nice and the portion is large enough to keep you stuff for a while, but it's the weekday food that is the star of the place. I had steak and chips with gorgonzola butter which was very nicely cooked and the the sunken chocolate cake for dessert. Both were very tasty and very generous portions. read more

Sometimes you just want something that does the job well. No frills, nothing fancy, but ruthless efficiency in the persuit of delivering one single product or experience. The Easton is an example of pub in extremis. It's plain, it's named after the street it's on and it is ace. Massively spacious, with a long well staffed and stocked bar and plenty of tables it is a ruthless machine dedicated to serving excellent food and drink. Stark walls, unencumbered by pictures don't really matter when the windows are huge. Furniture is spartan, but comfortable and functional. But none of this really matters. What matters here is food and drink. First up - food. I ordered lamb chops. Which were amazing. It's not often you find me franticly trying to scrape the last remaaining bits of meat off the bone so I can have more, but I did. Embarrassing, and a bit silly, but worth it. My friend ordered a steak, which was huge and devoured in its entirety by a girl who was only just bigger than the slab of meat. Testament to tastiness. Even the simplest thing was ace. Chips were perfect, thick, but not too big, with a crunchy thick coating and fluffy middles and served burning hot. Portions are big and service is fast. What more could you want? Only having had the house wine, I can't give an informed review of the wine list - but the house white was absolutely fine. And house wine that's fine is a good sign. (check out the rhyme!) Towards the end of the night the spacious bar is heaving with customers. But service was never slow. the bar is almost as long as the pub itself, so theres plenty of space and you wont be elbowing people to get served. Bad points? Not much to speak of - it might be a bit busy late at night, but that's because it's popular. Maybe, just mabye the staff could be friendlier - but they're not unfiendly. I went to The Easton for lunch last week. As soon as we'd sat down, the waiter bought over the menus along with some warm bread and olive oil / balsamic vinegar for dipping - a lovely touch. I ordered the pork and chorizo burger with chips, which was tasty and reasonable value for money. We had a lovely evening with 7 other friends as they also have lovely big tables all quite separate from each other so feels quite intimate too. Had a christmas meal here on 13th December 2018 with office team; 17 of us in total. When we booked we were told to order food in advance which we all did, and also that we had a slot of between 1-3pm. Service was horrendously slow !! There didn't seem to be enough serving staff and we waited for over an hour for our starter. Then we were constantly told by staff that they had to serve other tables and then they would get to us. When the starters eventually came it was nice enough (though I had the soup which was tasty but shame it was lukewarm). The next long wait was again almost an hour for the main meal - so late in fact that one of our group had to leave and therefore didn't get hers in time. By this time it was 3.15pm, bearing in mind they told us our slot was to 3pm. We did complain to the staff but although apologetic they told us they could not do anything. The meals were very tasty but the service - or lack of it - let this place down big time! read more

Prices are reasonable for the area although edging toward the pricey side for drinks and food. The atmosphere is what really makes it. Very welcoming and unpretentious. Homely yet stylish. The first time I went to the Easton four years ago for Sunday lunch, I stayed long enough to justify two roast dinners. Well, I justified it, everyone sat around the table and look on in horror pointing their fingers at 'The Greedy one' sat in the corner. Two roast dinners in three hours? That's not that bad is it? But they were just so tasty. I went again on Sunday and although the waitresses were charming, the food was unfortunately well below par. My Pork Belly could only be described as a piece of fatty gristle. A bit like an elongated pork scratching. Perhaps I drew the short straw but surely there should be some quality control. On this occasion, the only reason I would order two Sunday dinners would be due to the lack of satisfaction from the first helping. read more

Went last night for dinner and drinks. It's a nicely restored old pub, just far enough down a side street that it wasn't crowded. We ate well, I had some tasty fish with fried butter beans (all good) and my friend had the pork and chorizo burger, which was a fabulous burger with a smoky home-made ketchup let down by a stale tesco-value style bun. The staff were super helpful bringing over beers when they were delayed by needing to change a barrel, and gracefully handled drunk increasingly-noisy singing from a crowd of women from an office party. The other reason for denying the easton the fifth star (aside from a nasty burger bun) was quite high prices for their scotch. Seven quid for 25ml of lagavulin? Seems steep to me. read more

Oh my god. The Easton - where have I been all your life? I live 5 minutes away and work even closer. It could've been my regular. My mistake - years ago - was to try going on a Friday when it was wall to wall pub and noise... if only I'd tried going back on a night earlier in the week when it's mellow as you please. Anyway, I finally got around to going tonight - and it was some of the best gastropub food I've ever had. Rich, yes - but hell, I've got my size 4 figure to maintain - so naturally I didn't leave a scrap. Anyway.. back to the food itself. The sunken chocolate cake! More on that later. First off, after some rather nice scraps of focaccia with olive oil - I had a generous plate of fabulous home made gnocchi with an obscenely rich cream, sage and wild mushroom sauce. Wow. I grudgingly offered a tiny bite to my friends, who were making short work of some pumpkin and chilli risotto and a beef and ale pie. I should, by rights, have stopped there... but did I mention the sunken chocolate cake? Ah, the cake. A squidgy, collapsed looking thing oozing with chocolate... again, wow. As a gesture towards some kind of token self control, I suggested the three of us split it, although in the event I seemed to be scoffing rather more than a strict third - in fact I think I polished off way more than half. Totally worth it. In fact I immediately booked to go to the Easton again next week. They say the menu changes frequently but to be honest, I'd be more than happy with the same again. Went to the Easton with work colleagues tonight after seeing glowing reviews on Yelp and I can definitely say it was worth it!! Very good and varied menu of classic pub meals and the mains were just delicious! Between us we had the sausage and mash, butternut squash pie and pork and chorizo burger. All 3 dishes were incredibly tasty and cooked really well and were good hearty portions. For puddings we had the brownie and sticky toffee pudding - delicious yet again! I would highly recommend this pub if you want classic, hearty pub grub at a good price. Be warned that on this particular Friday night it was quite noisy but we didn't mind at all, it all added to the atmosphere. i actually came here based on the fact that it is dog-friendly, but that aside, it's a great place in and of itself. on a relatively chilly october evening, it was lovely and warm inside with a very inviting atmosphere. service could not have been better - the girls were efficient and friendly (& were very nice to my puppy!) the menu is reasonably priced and very yummy. they also give you some bread and oil to start with free of charge which is a very nice touch for a pub. i had the vegetarian burger, which i thought was good. i wasn't enthralled by the bun, but i normally only eat the bottom half of this anyway, so no big deal. everyone else was really pleased with their meals - ranging from veggie pie, to sausage and mash, and steak. i especially like this pub as they serve a reasonably priced bottle of gavi di gavi wine which is made by an italian winery that boasts the same surname as my family - a first for us! will definitely return. read more

The Easton's a good pub for hanging out and eating with a bunch of pals. It's spacious, airy and light, and well situated near Exmouth Market. They have decent beers (I noticed Tim Taylor's Landlord as, I think, a recent addition), a very reasonable wine list, and it's always good for getting a decent bite to eat. In the past I've had really good pork belly, not-half-bad côte du boeuf, and various other things that usually feel like they're about £1.50 to £2 too expensive, but which are good enough, and in pleasant enough surroundings, for me to feel like I'm not quite being ripped off. Most recently I dropped in for Sunday lunch and plumped uncharacteristically for the roast chicken which was very tasty, if certainly not enormous. The one issue with this place, which I find is the same pretty much every time I go, is that the staff just never seem particularly bothered about serving the customers. OK, sure, if I worked in a pub I probably wouldn't be exactly effusive, but by contrast I go to plenty of places where a friendly smile will at least be returned. Here, I can never tell whether it's that I'm just not cool enough, good-looking enough, rich enough, local/regular enough or whatever else it would take for me to raise anything other than a completely flat expression and "that's thirteen pounds fifty-eight". It's not that they're unpleasant, unhelpful, or even particularly slow - though it's not the fastest service in the world, but that fits the relaxed atmosphere well - they just aren't particularly interested in you, and you can't help but feel a little like you're something of an inconvenience which will eventually, inevitably, cease to trouble them come closing time. Hence the 3-star rating; the food's pretty good, the setting is enjoyable, and getting there and back is easy - but you just don't feel that the extra few quid you threw in the pot was particularly merited, meaning the feeling I have about the place is on balance fairly flat. "Oh, you want to go the Easton? Yeah, sure, let's go there, it's fine." It's fine. No problem. It's just not going to set the world alight. Staying nearby on business, quick online search showed the Easton as a good option. Turned out to be a fantastic choice. Table for one, no problem. Really friendly, efficient and menu informative staff. Salt cod croquettes to start, followed by chicken pie & mash for main. Preceded by a gratis bread and oil. I can only say that the whole meal was absolutely spot on. I often like to try local gastropubs when away on business, and have eaten in many all over the UK. This truly ranks as one of the best. I'll remember this pub for a long time, and if ever back in this area will certainly try again. A very lucky community, to have such a great gem on the doorstep! read more

After several days of business meetings and nights of events we decided to try a neighborhood spot more for locals. The pub was a bit noisy with lots of people standing about but here was plenty of space for us to stand at the bar as they don't do bar stools. We had a few pints from their selection of European offerings and some newer local brewers and then grabbed a table for dinner. We had the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly and was very tender and tasty. If you're in the area and looking for a local experience try this place. You'll enjoy it. read more

Food here is fine - been many times before - but tonight came up against a server who hated the fact that I pointed out that she'd seated and served another couple who arrived after us."What do we need to do to get table service?" I asked when I finally went to the bar; "That is rude," she said. "There's no need to be rude." Clearly I wasn't going to pay £80-100 to feel obligated to the server so I said we would leave. Not only did she come around to hold the door open for us and shoo us out; she also asked what we were going to do about the situation. I explained again that it's not good to be overlooked when there are only about half the tables occupied. The server still asked for an apology and so we left. Our parting shot was that it was a pity, because we were local. She said "Well, that's your problem, not mine." So, there you go, Great food, great wine. Too many cool and trendy smokers who are too inclined to leave to doors open when they go outside (if Amnesty ever leave the area, the whole pub is a gonner). And truly self-regarding staff who clearly don't think the service culture extends to the £80-100 meal. Try Caravan in Exmouth Market, which is new, or Moro, which if you can get in is better food and about the same price. Otherwise the Union Tavern is cheaper for burgers etc in a relaxed atmosphere. read more
