The mentoring that these volunteers do is so monumental in children's lives and means so much to them and their families. I have seen this program in practice when the Bigs come to the school to talk to their Littles and I have always seen professional, caring individuals come through my office! Children and their families are very blessed to have a facility like this that allows their family members to be close to them during a difficult time. Everything in the facility is pretty much donated by various organizations. From the food to the rooms these families are provided for. The facility is kept clean and for the most part looks very comfortable. If I had the funds I would pour into these facilities as well because insurance only covers so much.

My tenant started contacting Camillus House in Miami for rental assistance back in 11/2024. Both…read morethe tenant and landlord provided all needed documents in a timely fashion in multiple rounds. However, the communication from Camillus House was always blurry. They always told us the case would be processed in a couple of weeks and nothing happened in the next a couple of months. When we contacted them again, the same thing happened. They kept asking for new documents. However, once the new document was provided and they just stopped communication. It seems that this Camillus House does NOT really want to provide assistance but merely stays in business so that the staff get paid by the donated money. I would like to share my story so that others can get a better picture of this organization.

I wanted to write this because, while they are a business and a school, this place has become more…read morelike a family. My daughter has been attending for about three years now, and they have truly become her second family. There is a lot of parent involvement, including having us as parent ambassadors. They listen to our concerns and treat each child and parent with care. We are not just numbers; we are a family. The cleanliness of the school is remarkable; sometimes you don't even realize children are in the room. My child is African American, yet she is learning Spanish, which has left me speechless. From the front desk to the cafeteria staff, everyone has been nothing but great and positive. As my daughter enters preschool, I am excited to see even more growth than she has already achieved. Sending her to this school was the best decision of my life.

The items we received were premium quality and far better than I expected. The entire process was smooth, organized, and completely stress-free. We never even had to get out of the car! I also want to give a special thank-you to the city employee who kindly added my child's name to the list. And yes, we received a turkey too! I truly appreciate the care, generosity, and coordination that went into this event.

Hands on Miami has been an amazing discovery for me…read more I have been a regular volunteer since January- giving me plenty opportunities to get involved with the community. But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.

They are a great central source of various community initiatives and projects in the Dade County area. The Junior League goes above and beyond to help those in need. The league helped create so many fundamental organizations in Miami including the original Museum of Science. I have met so many wonderful friends. The women are all inspiring and supportive of one another. We are always trying to help and support all members in league and outside. The league also serves as a training organization, where members can learn new tools such as fundraising, retention/recruitment, events, development and many other skills that can be applicable in all aspects of life. Overall, I've been able to get involved in the community and make a difference alongside amazing women! If you are new to Miami or are looking to get involved, look into this organization!
