Service was great, our server was watching several tables, she was on top of it. I had chicken salad sandwich and fries. I prefer more dressing on the CS, and more CS on the sandwich. It was tasty, but not $1200 dollars a plate.... If you get that reference the fries were good, fresh cut, just a little crispy. They weren't salted while hot, which maybe is better for you, but maybe isn't as tasty. Dish was OK, too many other things to try to reorder. Wife had Chicken Paillard, with risotto and lemon arugala salad, the special. It had brie and prosciutto on it. She liked it, I tried it, much better than my choice. Risotto was creamy and buttery, really enjoyed it. The chicken had a great flavor, not usually a fan of brie, this was a nice pairing. The prosciutto was nice under the brie, where it peeked out, bacon hints, still very nice. This gets 5 stars. Had iced tea, was good. There were drink options, appertifs, digestifs... We had a ways to go and I was driving, did not try. The restaurant was really well done. Lots of texture and thoughtful decoration. The tables were made from the wood floor of the same building. Bar made of bowling alley lane. Lots going on. If you got this far, we'll done, this is the best part. The Tiramisu was worth the drive. Side salad was sub par. The lettuce also had chopped cabbage from the store and arugula with ranch that tasted like pickle juice. Risotto bowl was covered in arugula and I didn't even see my risotto until I took it off. The risotto also had large chunks of artichoke and the whole piece of rabe chopped into pieces (the whole broccoli rabe is not supposed to be used like that). We ordered in a timely manner and the waitress messed up our orders, forgot to put in one of the appetizers, and kept touching us. On positive notes, the mixed drinks were very good and the steaks were cooked perfectly. The kitchen staff gets a 8/10. The bar staff gets a 9/10. read more

Had dinner tonight at The Elephant B&B for the first time. The food was amazing; the scallops and risotto were delightful and the S'mores dessert was well worth the 50+ mile drive. Compliments to Chef Emily! We sat upstairs overlooking the lower floor which made for a very nice atmosphere. In addition to great food and incredible ambiance, our server Daisy was FABULOUS!! She was engaging to speak with (thank you Daisy, we appreciate the KS info!), very knowledgeable of the menu, and just made our evening enjoyable! We drove 360+ miles round trip just to have dinner at The Elephant. We spent the night in Hoxie, an experience in itself. The food was extremely full of flavor. The wine list was limited but had some very interesting offerings, which we were happy to take advantage of. The location is super cool and historic. Very tastefully done! Our service was friendly and efficient and we have uber respect for everyone that navigates those stairs for a living! Overall, worth the trip and we will likely do it again! read more

Pros: Quality entrees and the variety is amazing, along with specialty drinks,(both cocktails and mocktails!). Service is friendly, but slow and many inaccurate orders. Most corrections were made. A gem of a place for location. Cons: Atmosphere is rowdy and hectic for a nice steak dinner; children running around, along with waitstaff pounding up and down the stairs and the kitchen staff yelling at one another. For being such a nice facility this caused a dissonance in our evening. Not worth a special trip just to eat there. FYI: For those with specific diets make sure to ask questions. The menu is not accurately listed with GF/V/VE options. Their rice is listed as vegetarian, however upon asking was informed it contains chicken stock (which is decidedly NOT vegetarian). First time at this restaurant last night. What a surprisingly charming place! Everything about this restaurant is welcoming--it is sparkling clean, airy, and the industrial chic decor is so interesting. It has a mix of the very old and very new. It seems that the way it was designed, there's not a bad seat in the house. They even have a cute patio area. The bathrooms are just as classy! The host, David, makes you feel like they have been eagerly awaiting your arrival, his smile will make your evening. The Dean Martin-esque era background music adds to the festive feel. We had the spinach artichoke dip appetizer which is the best version of that I have tried. I would probably order it with extra carrot and celery next time, although the crostini is delicious as well. We also had a bizarre avocado egg roll appetizer. I expected not to like it, but the avocado makes it addictive, and the sweet chili sauce is the perfect addition. The appetizers are great to share with the table-- otherwise, you're going to be too full to eat anything else. The menu is a nice mix of unusual food and classics like burgers and steaks. Service is friendly, prompt, attentive. The cocktail of the night was refreshing and pretty and unusual, some type of sangria with citrus fruit and red wine, great summer drink. We also got carrot cake to go because we were too full to eat another bite. My husband really enjoyed the cake. I definitely plan to return, the drive was relaxing, and the countryside is stunning. Next time I plan to try some of the salads and lighter offerings to counter the richer tastes. read more

We came here for takeout on the recommendation of our AirBnB hosts when we were passing through town. The restaurant is spacious and immaculate and if it wasn't so soon after covid we would have loved to stay and dine in. That said everything we ordered as takeout was delicious! The bison ribeye (super tender), the buffalo chicken bomb mac and cheese, the pulled pork sandwich, the fries, the mashed potatoes, perfect asparagus, and they had ginger beer! What a gem. Service was prompt and friendly. We would go back if we were staying in town longer! read more

I have eaten lunch here multiple times and each time it has been outstanding. I would have never thought to discover a place like this in the middle of Kansas. The prices are very reasonable as well. They have dishes for anybody's taste, and most of the ingredients (especially meat) are locally sourced and very fresh. read more

We would give this restaurant a zero or minus number if possible. The food is extremely expensive, the waitstaff inattentive, the meals small and the food was worse than any truck stop I've ever been to. My husband and I had 2 entrees: His was meatloaf and mine was scallops. His meatloaf was $25 and only included a scalloped potato type side. His meatloaf was loose, greasy and tasted mostly of filler, not meat. My scallop meal was $35 and included a side of corn risotto that was good but only tasted of corn. The scallops were absolutely flavorless. There were 5 tiny scallops spread across the plate, each no more that 1" across, if that. I asked the waitress 3 times what was in the risotto and each time she did not know and forgot to go ask. There was no salad or bread included. The appetizer, which was avocado stuffed eggrolls at $15 tasted good on the inside but the wrappers were burnt and could not even be cut with a knife. The margarita I ordered was served "up" (no ice) in a very small martini glass. It was the smallest I have ever ever seen. My husband's glass of coke was $2.50. We ordered desserts to go, which were cheesecake and carrot cake. The cheesecake was good but the frosting on the carrot cake was a skim that was about 1/16 of an inch thick at the most. Seriously. To top it all off, we were charged $.80 to have them put the desserts in a plastic clamshell to go. We had to flag down the waitress whenever we needed something. She never checked on us or asked how things were, at all. The meal cost us $115. We will never to there again and will tell everyone we speak with, prompted or not, that the place is terrible. Don't waste your money. read more

First time visiting the elephant bistro was in December, atmosphere was cool drinks were OK, when I went to order they did not have four of the items on the menu. Not a large selection to begin with and we went at 7 PM I would have thought, they would have been more prepared. Ended up getting a steak that was mediocre at best for 50+ bucks. I do know they have a Christmas party upstairs that night so maybe that was the issue. Another member of our party had a burger and he thought it was good. read more

I was in the area traveling to see my boyfriend. We chose to eat here for dinner on June 1st (Saturday night). The natural light, brick walls, cool light fixtures, high ceiling and modern decorations were all things I enjoyed. I ordered the pork chop and my boyfriend got the salmon. BOTH amazing. Each of our entrees came with two sides. Being the dessert lover I am, I had to try one. I got the s'mores dessert. Husband and I dined here today (05/18/19) for lunch. The first thing we noticed was the ambiance. A bit eclectic but wholly delightful. The next thing we noticed was there were not condiments on the tables and especially no salt and pepper. That, folks, is the first clue that the food is prepared perfectly which means it is seasoned and presented at its best. And we were not disappointed. Went to The Elephant for Valentine's Day. I feel like it is hit or miss. My tuna could have been cooked just a little longer and the husband wasn't a fan of the vegetables that came with his steak. Spotted this cute bistro in the middle of "nowhere Kansas" a while back while traveling from OK to ND, checked out their webpage and decided it was a definite "must try" on a future trip. Finally got the chance to check it out yesterday for lunch...WOW!! As seasoned foodies who have enjoyed the privilege of eating at some phenomenal places over the years, this place ranks right up there with some of the best. The renovation to the building is absolutely beautiful and the decor/attention to detail made it feel very upscale yet casual. The food was fantastic, and definitely not what you would expect from such a small town in the middle of nowhere, it was much more representative of big city bistros with big flavors and eclectic dishes, the in house desserts were the "icing on the cake". A great beer and wine selection with full bar service available, this place has it all. The service was impeccable and the unexpected surprise was our server was the chef/owner herself who obviously takes pride in giving her guests the best experience possible, her warm and charming personality was a pleasure. We will definitely put this restaurant on our future travel itineraries and look forward to the next visit. If you are traveling anywhere close to this little town that is less than 20 miles from I-70, I would highly recommend the detour to check it out, you won't be disappointed! read more

Just got an Airbnb up the street from this place and all I have to say is wow. Got the shrimp tacos and they were amazing, how you can balance such strong flavors and still taste the shrimp, I do not know. Also got Mt. Rainier Tableside s'mores and they were doubly amazing. Amazed and delighted to find a restaurant of this caliber in a small town in northwest Kansas. The menu is creative and extensive. Our group of 6 sampled the excellent tuna poke, Korean chicken wings and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers. The dry aged ribeyes were table knife tender, flavor was excellent, and cooked spot on. Chantilly potatoes and fresh green beans were a wonderful accompaniment to the meat. As if that wasn't enough we sampled a moist delicious carrot cake, fabulous bread pudding with pecans and apple AND caramel, and a special of the week peach plum pop tart! Service was excellent, we never felt rushed although on a Saturday night the place was hopping. If we lived in this part of the country we would be regular diners!!! read more

Took a date night! This place was AMAZING! I got the salmon filet and it was mouth watering good!! Only thing I had a problem with is I did not like my side. I am not a fan of mushrooms so the wild rice was not a good choice for me but it that doesn't bother me. Now next time I go I know not to have that as my side. The s'mores dessert was delicious!!
