These guys are GREAT! incredible service and the three mechanics and owner were just fantastic. I popped in last week with a stripped out head tube tensioner. Instead of selling me a new head set, the owner suggested re-tappining it. One mechanic stopped what he was doing and dug out his tap set and cleaned it up perfectly. The threads were great but the bolt holding it in was too short...both mechanics started tearing the shop apart looking for the longer bolts that fit it. They find the package of extra bolts and just give it to me. This would have been great service if I'd bought my bike there, but its incredible service considering I'm just a random guy coming thru town who can't ride his bike until I get it fixed. Ketchum is a heck of a great town, loaded with quality stores full of good atmosphere. The Sun Valley Lodge is a short drive away. The best of the stores? For me, it's this place, a terrific combination of high quality merchandise and exceptional customer service. Love the exterior, a beautiful entry way with lavender and gorgeous plants, and their you enter into an outstanding store with a superb layout, along with just about anything you would like in outdoor apparel and gear. It really rocks. The highlight is the quality of the customer service, as their staff is friendly, experienced, and so knowledgeable. They interact so well, and aren't pushy like so many stores. Dropped my mountain bike off here for a tune. Had always come for various gear, but never used the bike shop. They did an incredible job servicing the bike (Santa Cruz Bronson). It was detailed to the T, took it out for a spin tonight and it rode like new. So I'll highly recommend the bike shop, and the rest of the store is rad too. read more

I forgoed a trip to REI on my drive up to buy local but the shoes I needed were out of stock. Instead of just being told, "we're out of stock", I was told of another local shop which may have them. My wife and I spent a week in Sun Valley doing photography and bike riding. Twice, we had occasion to stop in The Elephant's Perch--both times walking away immensely impressed with the level of professionalism and generous service we received by Nappy and Bob. Our second visit deserves more explanation. We had the misfortune to hit fresh tar laid down to fill cracks on a local bike trail. There was no signs to warn us of what was ahead. The liquid tar whipped up onto our new performance road bikes, coating them with a black spaghetti-like mess. When we asked Nappy for his advice on what to do, he said to bring the bikes into the shop so they could take a look. When we returned, they spent the next 1-1/2 hours steam cleaning the bikes and applying various solvents. By the time they closed for the day, 90% of the goo was stripped off. Rather than taking advantage of us with a stiff service charge, they apologized on behalf of the local municipal department responsible for laying the tar and sent us on our way without charging us anything. We applaud The Elephant Perch for distinguishing themselves in an era when such generosity is rare. If you're in Sun Valley and considering to purchase bicycle equipment or need bicycle service, we can wholeheartedly endorse this wonderful shop. read more

From everyone in town, this is the place to go to get bikes, shoes and whatever you need. They say that the service can be iffy but this is the place to go. I like customer service. This is place lacks that specialty in my book. The first time I went in, the sales associate was mean and nasty to two of us. The second time I went in to buy a pair of xcountry ski shoes, the girl showed me items, left me alone and literally never came back - only to hear that the sales staff were all huddled around the cash register talking about drinks and drinking. There are other stores that have great customer service with the same products. read more

I went in there to find some information about local climbs and all I got was massive negative vibes. I would have even bought something, but not with the attitude I got there. Behind the counter they have hidden 2, 3 inch binders full of climbs that it took a long time to get out of them. Not a great selection either. read more

Their mountain bikes for rent seem to be poorly maintained. I rented a bike there this past July with about six others. Within the first mile of trail riding the chain on my bike and one other had broken. I rolled downhill and waited 30 minutes for the shop to pick me up. I went out the next day on the same bike, its chain since refurbished, and it worked fine. read more

When we come to Sun Valley our first stop is ALWAYS the Perch! We love the warm welcome the owners Bob and Kate Rosso but too we love the staff who have been on board for years, who know us and always know how to assist us with our needs summer or winter. In fact we save a lot of our outdoor/athletic gear shopping for our days in Ketchum because the Perch is cutting edge, has the latest and greatest gear and the clothing selection is so good even my non-shopper husband gets in the mix. Customer service is superb, joy of all relevant sports is omnipresent and there's no shortage of expertise for every outing imaginable.
