The redfish was fantastic as well -- cooked just right, with broccoli and rice that were surprisingly delicious for simple sides. And then there's the burger. WOW. I had the double bacon burger: two 1/4‑lb smashed patties and several thick strips of bacon. I added lettuce and tomato, and it was a serious meal -- in the best way. I swapped the fries for onion rings, and those deserve their own shout‑out. Thin‑sliced onions, lightly breaded, and absolutely addictive. I also have to mention Vay, our server. He asked for the fried catfish, the fried shrimp, and the crawfish étouffée to be served separately rather than everything piled on top of each other. He said the catfish was very good, the shrimp was very good and he enjoyed the crawfish étouffée, but said it was on the spicy side. I am glad I asked him to get the dish deconstructed. This way he was able to enjoy the catfish and shrimp and not worry about the étouffée being too spicy. He loved his meal. 5/5 I asked for a cup of red beans and rice to go. Back in those days, enjoying a drink required secrecy, dim lights, and maybe a jazz band playing in the corner. Today, things are a little easier... though for this non-drinker, my order was simple: water on the rocks, hold the lemon. I prefer my water about 100 proof for maximum flavor. My boss and coworker grabbed seats at the bar while we looked over the menu. We kicked things off with the Pork Belly Burnt Ends and the Pork Bao Buns. Let me tell you, those Pork Belly Burnt Ends were an absolute masterpiece. They came out crisp and seasoned just right with a little spicy kick. Served with raw carrots, homemade pickles, and lettuce wraps to bundle those little jewels together--downright tasty. If food had a Hall of Fame, these would already have a plaque on the wall. We found a booth and waited a few minutes to get menus. The place was kind of dark and vintage. Not really quaint. You can tell this was a local hangout place. The nilla wafer crumbles really helped deliver on the concept. The waffle had crispy edges and a soft interior and was a pretty golden brown. To be honest, the pudding part had a slightly artificial banana flavor to it that I didn't particularly care for, but the fresh sliced bananas and nilla wafers were good enough that I didn't really mind. If I'm nit-picking, I will probably say that $18 for a waffle, even with fancy toppings and accoutrements, is a little high for me, but I ultimately had a positive experience and would recommend it. They have a large menu filled with yummy sounding items and friendly service and I think I'd enjoy bringing friends here in the future.
