    BBQ burger with tater tots
    Briana T.

Drakes is a fun bar in south Huntsville for sports, good food, and a solid beer list! The actual restaurant is pretty large and great for groups. We had 8 adults and 2 kids in our party and we were seated immediately. The menu has a lot of variety including burgers, salads, chicken, and sushi. The sushi did look good (and we heard good things) but we opted for bar food instead. We started with the fried pickles which were super tasty, and there were plenty to go around. I ordered the bbq burger and my husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich, both of which were really good and plenty of food! The fries and tots were really good as well. Several people in our party got the chicken fingers, which was also a great choice. They had a good selection of local beer, which is a plus for me. They had TVs on everywhere with sports on, so you won't be missing a game. Great place for a fun night out with solid food!

Hadn't been to Drakes before so decided to try it out around noon on a Saturday with my wife and two kids. Despite being pretty busy we were seated without a wait. Waitress was nice and took orders, drinks arrived pretty quickly. Ambiance was kind of a brighter sports bar but still family-friendly. Loud music and conversation but not obnoxiously so, lot of families present. On to the food. Let's be honest - the place is a little on the expensive side. Cup of chili for $6, salads start at $14 and go north of $18, all the burgers are $14+ with one side etc. That being said, I don't knock of stars for higher prices, you can check the menu before you show up and go elsewhere, but I do want to point it out. I ordered the Triple Double cheeseburger Sliders and was able to sub out the side for chili for $2, which I felt was a good deal. The burgers were well done but sliders are kinda to get anything else and they tasted good. To be fair, they didn't ask how I wanted them so that's just how they come. No complaints about the burgers besides the size. Chili seemed like it was made fresh and tasted really good. Scattering of beans, hamburger was diced very fine. Great flavor, not too hot or top greasy. Wife got the chopped Chicken Salad but opted to swap out chicken for salmon. She thought there was a bit too much dressing (order it on the side). She fel the salmon was cooked a little more then she asked for but was still good -- a good entree sized serving of salmon. Everything else in salad was great. Kids got mac-n-cheese and chicken strips. The chicken strips were grilled and they were probably the best kids chicken s trips I've tried. My daughter thought they were one of the better ones she'd tried as well. Mac-N-Cheese was good. $65 prior to gratuity for all that, two waters, 1 soda and a 23oz beer. Kinda high but they offered a military discount that was very generous. Came out to just over $51 after discount which I appreciated a lot. As long as you are OK paying for quality good, you won't be disappointed -- food here is great and service is good too.

The atmosphere was great, lots of TVs. My boo had the mushroom Swiss burger which she said was delicious with the sweet potato fries. We sat at the bar and the bartender who also took our order was very friendly and attentive. I had the fish and fries, the fish seemed like it was Gordon's fish, like it came out of a microwave. I thought it was going to be freshly cooked fish, not good. The drinks were awesome.

I love this place! Every time I've been there the food is great, just the perfect bar food. Plus their sushi is very good, which is surprising for a bar. I've had several of the seasonal cocktails, they are delish with the right amount of alcohol. Service is very good as well. All the waitresses are very attentive and nice. As for the ambiance it's a typical bar, it's great to watch a game and the crowd is usually lively.

The sushi is my favorite thing on the menu. I like the burgers as well. The buffalo chicken dip is always our go to app. But man they have the BEST sushi I've ever had!! I tried their burning love roll & I can't remember the one on the picture but both just so good! They have two bars and for the most part it's self seating unless it's busy of course. TVs and clean bathrooms! I can't wait to try their brunch!

Great food and excellent beer choices.. salads, burgers, sushi are major options.. excellent service by Emily on a Thursday afternoon!! We tucked into lounge chairs by fireplace - most cushioned seats. Many other cushioned seating options .. doors opened to outside air was temperature perfect!

I was able to relax and dine in this time. Ordered a quesadilla and it was just everything it was so good the bell peppers just needed to be cooked a bit more but otherwise it got downed with their house made salsa which was aromatic and tasted so fresh. Also got their wings which the sauces for all their wings is also made in house including the ranch which was so good. We got the Buffalo wings. Good size and very juicy. Even the celery sticks were fresh! And lastly we finished off with some cheeseburger slides with Drake sauce. Now these were burgers soft buns, meat was fresh ground beef, and that Drake sauce is to die for! Go to Drake's whenever you're in Huntsville, Alabama it's worth it!

Service was absolutely terrible. Their food is always good but because of the service and charging a liquor tax I will not be back

Both were great BUT drinks were king. Will go back next time in town! Had another experience at BeeZr before we left town. Grand opening of Jefferson Alley and BeeZr offered a special menu. Wife and I got the 2nd ever BeeZr Burger. It was delicious and it paired nicely with the drinks again. This place doesn't miss.

Seriously tough call on the rating here. I think I'll settle on a 3 but it was super close to a 4,…read morejust several minor frustrations added up. I came here with one of my best friends who was home for Thanksgiving to have a girl's day out. BeeZr advertises a nice-looking brunch on the weekends so we thought we'd try it out. She wound up not being able to meet until later in the afternoon but I'm not opposed to a late brunch, so we got there around 1. It was a gray and dreary day on Thanksgiving weekend, so I get it being slow, but the restaurant was literally empty except for us and the servers. We joked it was because we'd rented the whole building to treat each other. The vibe is...fine inside. It definitely looks and feels more like a brewery than a restaurant, with large equipment and a sort of dimly lit atmosphere and a few large TVs by the nice bar. They have a small patio on the square which is REALLY lovely and definitely would've been my preference if the weather was nicer. Our server was okay. He was soft-spoken and not unpleasant, but did sort of have a knack for appearing at inopportune times during the conversation. I get that it's not always possible to avoid, but a little more discretion would've gone a long way, especially since we were the only ones in there. Our food and drinks came out in a timely manner. My biggest frustration was definitely the menu and item availability. I pre-read it and came knowing what I wanted (bananas foster French toast) only to discover that they were running a limited Thanksgiving weekend brunch menu and therefore it wasn't being offered that day. The first thing my friend ordered also wasn't available. I had my heart set on brunch so I asked for the breakfast burrito instead. Our waiter had to go check and make sure the kitchen could do it. Turns out they could - yay. But then I asked for potatoes to go with it -- and there were no breakfast potatoes available. I went with fries instead. When my burrito arrived at the table, there was no salsa or sour cream, which was supposed to come with it. Any component part of this experience is not a HUGE deal, but it all added up to be rather disappointing. My friend got the bulgogi tacos, which came in an order of two sort of small tacos. She liked them and said they were really good. She also got first a French mimosa and then a classic mimosa; I also had a classic mimosa. Both were generic but enjoyable. My breakfast burrito was decent, but I really missed the salsa and sour cream. The bacon inside was cut into tiny crunchy pieces, which I liked. The eggs were cooked very well but needed more salt and pepper. I enjoyed the bright burst of peppers and some were even a tiny bit spicy. It was a large serving but I wish it came with some side item instead of me having to order one. The side of fries was generous and they were really good -- super crispy but still fluffy inside. I thought the bill was a little high for 1 mimosa, a breakfast burrito, and fries -- almost $40. The burrito alone was $18, which seems like sooooo much for a brunch entree with no sides. Idk. Maybe I don't do mid-scale dining enough. Overall, I thought the quality of the food was solid enough that I'd consider returning, but I'd call ahead to see if they had what I wanted to avoid frustration.

The pub itself looks like one you'd find in some forgotten little village in rural Ireland -- a place that time left behind from the 60s or 70s. It reeked of cigarette smoke (which is still allowed in bars in Alabama apparently). The bartender/owner was very nice and seemed genuinely happy to have customers on a slow Sunday afternoon. He was helpful in recommending some beers (they have a good selection on draft -- most from regional breweries). We ordered the Irish spice bags of course and enjoyed our beers while we waited. The fried chicken pieces and French fries came in the bag, well seasoned. On the side were the fried green peppers and fried onions and the golden curry. We added the peppers, onions and curry to the bags, shook them up and tore them open to dig into this hearty Irish treat. The chicken pieces were tender and nicely breaded (the breading did not fall off). They were quite tasty on their own. The fries were crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The peppers and onions were fried to light brown and had just the right amount of softness. The golden curry was only mildly spicy with a great curry flavor. All mixed together, it was everything we hoped it would be. Well worth the trip to a smoky dive bar in a strip mall (we didn't even notice the smoky smell once the food came). If you've never had a spice bag, this place does them well. Food and service 5. Atmosphere 3. That accounts for the 4 rating.
