This place has great burgers! Came here with a group and we were able to find a cluster of tables together. It's a seat yourself place. I got the mini juicy Lucy burgers. I highly recommend. I got a side of tots. They didn't come out to lil later and seemed a lot less than what other people received with their entree. Could be because it was separate too. Drakes is a fun bar in south Huntsville for sports, good food, and a solid beer list! The actual restaurant is pretty large and great for groups. We had 8 adults and 2 kids in our party and we were seated immediately. The menu has a lot of variety including burgers, salads, chicken, and sushi. The sushi did look good (and we heard good things) but we opted for bar food instead. We started with the fried pickles which were super tasty, and there were plenty to go around. I ordered the bbq burger and my husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich, both of which were really good and plenty of food! The fries and tots were really good as well. Several people in our party got the chicken fingers, which was also a great choice. They had a good selection of local beer, which is a plus for me. Hadn't been to Drakes before so decided to try it out around noon on a Saturday with my wife and two kids. Despite being pretty busy we were seated without a wait. Waitress was nice and took orders, drinks arrived pretty quickly. Ambiance was kind of a brighter sports bar but still family-friendly. Loud music and conversation but not obnoxiously so, lot of families present. On to the food. Let's be honest - the place is a little on the expensive side. Cup of chili for $6, salads start at $14 and go north of $18, all the burgers are $14+ with one side etc. That being said, I don't knock of stars for higher prices, you can check the menu before you show up and go elsewhere, but I do want to point it out. I ordered the Triple Double cheeseburger Sliders and was able to sub out the side for chili for $2, which I felt was a good deal. The burgers were well done but sliders are kinda to get anything else and they tasted good. To be fair, they didn't ask how I wanted them so that's just how they come. No complaints about the burgers besides the size. Chili seemed like it was made fresh and tasted really good. Scattering of beans, hamburger was diced very fine. Great flavor, not too hot or top greasy. Wife got the chopped Chicken Salad but opted to swap out chicken for salmon. She thought there was a bit too much dressing (order it on the side). She fel the salmon was cooked a little more then she asked for but was still good -- a good entree sized serving of salmon. Everything else in salad was great. Kids got mac-n-cheese and chicken strips. The chicken strips were grilled and they were probably the best kids chicken s trips I've tried. My daughter thought they were one of the better ones she'd tried as well. Mac-N-Cheese was good. $65 prior to gratuity for all that, two waters, 1 soda and a 23oz beer. Kinda high but they offered a military discount that was very generous. Came out to just over $51 after discount which I appreciated a lot. As long as you are OK paying for quality good, you won't be disappointed -- food here is great and service is good too. read more

I went there one time and it was not that late. Around 9:30 ish. I sat at the bar and let's say the place looked like a ghost town. One customer was sitting at the bar and looking at his cell phone. I was honestly skeptical about trying the sushi but when seeing it being brought out to other tables I do wish I tried a roll or two. I ended up ordering the Patty Melt, it was okay. I couldn't really pick up any horseradish. Southwest style egg roll appetizers were pretty good on the other hand. The establishment itself was pretty cool, decorative for the October festivities. The smell of the wood burning was a bit harsh (but that's just because I have a sensitive sense of smell) the rest of my party did not mind it at all. We split a mushroom Swiss smash burger with a side of fries. Nae had the kitchen divide the entree into separate plates. The smash burger was absolutely delicious. I was able to relax and dine in this time. Ordered a quesadilla and it was just everything it was so good the bell peppers just needed to be cooked a bit more but otherwise it got downed with their house made salsa which was aromatic and tasted so fresh. Also got their wings which the sauces for all their wings is also made in house including the ranch which was so good. We got the Buffalo wings. Good size and very juicy. Even the celery sticks were fresh! And lastly we finished off with some cheeseburger slides with Drake sauce. This place is much bigger than it looks. It's tucked in a strip mall full of other restaurants and shops. This place is a hidden gem. The service is friendly, courteous, and efficient. They were quite helpful and really helped me avoid some potential allergy issues. Great recommendations. I tried a Philly, California Roll, and tater tots. The food was wonderful. They have quite an extensive menu that is really worth checking out if your in that area of south Huntsville. read more

Happen to stop by here randomly and it's an odd place. To start its in a shopping center with mostly restaurants, not sure if that's a Huntsville thing or what. It advertises burgers and sushi, which are an odd combo anywhere much less here. So the atmosphere is like an Applebees, but there is a fireplace that makes it smell like a bbq place, and then in the middle of a hall there is a 5 foot sushi bar. I played it safe and got the mini juicy Lucy burger with tots. It was very good and all the burger toppings were fresh. It was not busy at all and there were plenty of servers. Mine was attentive but not really friendly. If you're group wants burgers and sushi this place is worth a try. read more

The juicy Lucy- BOOM! Sriracha chicken wings- MAN!! Fried pickles- OH YEAH. Service from Megan was friendly, attentive and she went out of her way to recommended some great sauces to try. Jamie (the manager) literally came out to apologize that the fried pickles took longer because he trashed the first batch because they weren't up to his standards. THANK YOU JAMIE!! What we got was piping hot, crispy fried pickles that were awesome!! And I am leaving here in pain from being so full. I'm so glad we live down the street. I'll be coming back more often!! read more

I ordered through doordash and it looked so sad. 2 specialty rolls, Drake yum yum&Fantasy roll 3/5 The rolls are so tiny like regular rolls. They all taste light and only can taste the Mayo as the prominent flavor. Salmon sashimi, scallop sashimi 2/5 The cuts were like scrapes. It was so thin and tiny. Regular roll, spicy roll 3/5 I couldn't tell the difference between the special rolls and the regular one to be honest. read more

If I could give "Zero" Stars I would. The MANAGER stated its a "Drake's policy" that it cannot/will not play hockey on there TVs because its too violent for kids!!!!! Haven't seen that policy in writing, nor could I find it anywhere? Yet, Football etc. is ok because it's not violent. In the meantime, Huntsville has an enormous kids hockey population and it's one of the fastest growing kids sports in the USA! Huntsville also has a "HUGE" hockey community. If you want to watch hockey while you eat, this place does not support the hockey community - Food was Mid at best..... "News flash" There's a rather big Hockey tournament being televised right now - I believe it has the largest sports following until complete (4-Nations)! read more

20200202 update- when they comment they will contact you please do not hold your breath I sent my email to them the next day and haven't heard a word. 20200122 update - I've been to Drake's more times than I have remembered to check in (more than a dozen times now). My Mom lives in Memory Care 5 miles from here and after my weekly visit with I enjoy meeting my best friend for dinner and a glass of wine in the Airport Rd. area before making the drive to Athens. Especially lately, the service and general condition of the restaurant have suffered. By general condition of the restaurant I mean, the temperature - it's chilly to freezing in the winter and their annoying ceiling fans are just that, annoying and chilling in the summer, something about the way they are pointed right at the customer's faces. I know they oscillate, but still they dry out your eyes, and are just pointed at an odd angle. I've already complained about the chairs, at least last evening, making my way through the dark, dankness of the back room/cave, I stumbled upon low top tables with chairs that actually *had* backs (these are back by that table shuffleboard maybe game that no one ever uses)! The lighting is seriously bat cave low, with loud, not-my-taste-for-the-most part music. As you make your way to the restroom, and the light of the kitchen hits the floor mat from the kitchen to the back dining room, you see all the built up crumbs, etc. that should not be there - that's what Bissels are for. Same with the entry way floor mat - dirty. If there was adequate lighting, I'm sure more dirt would be revealed. Couple that with no visible cleaning by any of the staff, who *do* have time to lean, but not time to clean, leaves me questioning the cleanliness of Drake's. I do enjoy their fish and chips on occasion and typically sub broccoli for fries, and I've enjoyed their veggie burger, too. Last night I tried the griddle-seared chicken with broccoli as the side. I asked for it w/o butter which they are happy to comply. The chicken initially tasted great and then there were a few chewy/grisly type bites, but not too excessive. Anyway, I had to send the broccoli back twice because it was nearly raw! After the second time of receiving it reheated from the kitchen it still tasted bad and I was just tired of complaining/sending it back. My best friend had the teriyaki chicken bowl and honestly, what we could see of it (due to the lack of lighting) seemed to be really sparse with the chicken. She was not really that thrilled with her bowl, but did eat half of it and took the rest to go. Prior to joining my friend, I sat at the bar and ordered a 6 oz glass of wine ($9). When we finally received our bills, I was charged for a 9 oz glass of wine ($13), so I had to point out the discrepancy to the server. I was having to interact way more than any guest should have to with the staff...then, we ordered a bottle of wine and I (or 99.99% of patrons who order a bottle of wine would do) wanted to take it the remaining wine home with me. The wine cap was not provided with the bottle (this is normal, nothing weird here) - which added to the time it took to package it. I was asked to produce the receipt to be stapled on the bag. As a rule, I always tear up my copy of the receipt. It didn't take the MOD too long to produce the correct receipt. In general, the service feels like the majority of Drake's personnel are in their work schedule world and you, the customer/guest, "just live in it." It feels like a general apathy and lack of logistical comforts for their customers/guests. The employees tend to cluster around the back bar, doing excessive leaning and (don't know if they are on or off the clock) checking their phones. When I have spent over 50.00 for dinner/drinks and have a nearly 55 minute drive home, after a long work day and Memory Care visit, I'd like a little more attention that Drake's offers. read more

*food poisoning * A friend and I dined on 2/27 around 7 pm. Cameron was a good server. I got crispy fish tacos, my friend got the dynamite shrimp bowl. No complaints there. I became ill around 2 AM. Today, I spoke with Steven Decker about the issue. He took my information and said they are required to report for potential food poisoning. I did ask if there was anything else he could do to remedy the situation. He said no but he wishes me well. He hung up quickly. It could have been handled better, but every manager is different I guess. I won't be returning. read more

I stopped in for the first time and I was truly impressed. My server Shane, was very nice and shared with me the specials and what he likes. I started off with the Mardi Gras sushi which was amazing. It had the crunch and flavor of so many different things that it's hard to explain. I had the fried white fish with coleslaw. The fish was fried to perfection and the batter has a crunch but doesn't over power the fish. You get 5 pieces with your order. The coleslaw was some of the best I've had at a restaurant. There's more than just mayonnaise in it. It has a sweet taste in it also. I will be coming back because this place is also great for sports watching and they have a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

I've been trying to branch out from my usual HSV restaurants so I thought I'd try Drake's. All of the servers were really friendly, so the service was great. I ordered what my waiter suggested which was the chicken bites and some fries which wasn't that bad but it wasn't nothing to jump and shout about either. The fries were fried to perfection but the chicken bites were too soft, kind of like they had been thrown in the microwave and then served I'll probably be back to try the burgers so look out for updates. read more
