The first one took place in…read more2013 when the City of Boynton Beach created a free, public art exhibit dedicated to contemporary artists creating kinetic art. The Kinetic Biennial takes place in the historic 1927 Arts and Cultural Center, around the building, on the lawn in front of City Hall and along the streets of Boynton Beach. The Biennial seeks to show how art and technology are connected with art installations that move. The Kinetic Biennial has art installations, artist and designer talks, student displays, turbine demonstrations, light projections, and choreographed motion performances with community volunteers. Live music, food trucks, artist booths, and other activities are also part of the event. I loved all of the fascinating art especially the Sisyphus table, a fine layer of sand with a two motor robot called the Sisbot that controls a metal ball along a preprogrammed track through sand that creates a beautiful pattern. I also enjoyed the Twirling Blooms, a candy colored installation of metal flowers spun by the wind in front of the Cultural Arts Center. One of my favorite installations was called Move Fast and Break Things. It's a kinetic rock throw. They made you sign a release before you could throw the rocks. It was very therapeutic watching them dent the sheet metal wall. Although the Kinetic Biennial is over for this year you can still find a number of permanent public pieces around Boynton Beach that the city has purchased for their collection.

The area also has 34 sculptures and murals to visit anytime. Kinetic Art is art that has movement using various energy resources. Creativity extends farther than a canvas and usually 3 dimensional. South Florida has many art forms to offer and this is one of my local favorites.

Kept hoping they would fire up the popcorn machine & tap the keg. Ty the owner is a laid-back Jimmy Buffet type, one of those "I never 'worked' a day in my life" guys! Ragtops has been on this corner since 1980. His schedule is pretty awesome too:: The Museum is open Wednesday - Saturday. I think that car museums are pretty rare. Winthrop Rockefeller opened one in 1964 @ his estate on Mt. Petit Jean, Morrilton, AR. It has been a popular attraction for more than 50 years. Today we decided to make a stop to learn more about the history of Polo in Wellington Lake Worth area. We had the pleasure of meeting George Dupont, the Executive Director of the museum and Hall of Fame. George was kind enough to spend some time with us and explain the history of polo in the area and the Women and Men who are honored in their Hall of Fame. We took a self guided tour inside and were fascinated. Back to George who once again shared his knowledge of the game, players and even how the horses are transported by land and air. His personable demeanor and love of the sport are evident in his sharing. We also learned that during the season, the matches are free and open to the public. Championship matches require tickets. We hope to return in the near future with my cousin, a retired Thoroughbred Equestrian Veterinarian, to enjoy A visit with George Dupont once again.

Omg! This was one of the most interesting museums we've been to lately -- especially if you like…read morehorses, you like Polo, or you would just like to learn about the game. Located on the north side of Lake Worth Road, the museum is free to visit, but you'll want to give a donation, I'm sure. The hours change at the end of April, so check before coming. The "tour" is self guided, but Michelle was nice enough to explain the way to see the exhibits and the best route to take to navigate the rooms. There are videos et al as well as easy to read signage on all the displays. You learn about the different type of mallets and composition, the history of the game starting with the Persians, and its transfer and development from country to country. The games ,the horses , the players, the winners of the various games and tournaments over the years; the cups and awards; plaques; and art works -- sculptures and paintings depicting players and horses. We were fortunate to have a nice long conversation with George DuPont, the COO and founder of the museum. He told us all about developing a polo pony -- from first purchase through training to getting used to the mallets and being close to other horses and quick turning. How it is almost 5/6 years of investment -- feeding, training, shoeing, etc -- before a horse has their first game participation. Had we not had a prior appointment, we could have talked to him forever. He was so informative and interesting. This year's championship game in Wellington is this Sunday. So there are a lot of horses and players in town. I'm glad we finally got a chance to visit here.

It's time to paint the town green for the 53rd annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival. The…read moreparade take place at noon and runs west along Atlantic Avenue from the Intracoastal to NW 5th Ave. There are over 70 Parade entries including floats, schools, community groups, non profits, veterans, and first responders. After the parade, a festival is held in Old School Square from 2 to 7 PM featuring food, vendors, games, and musical performances. Thanks to Rachel M for alerting me about this fantastic event, I arrived early and was able to easily find parking along upper Atlantic Ave at the parade end. It seemed like the majority of people were crowded around Old School Square. There was an interactive parking map featured on the festival website for more place to park. About a half mile from the parade the streets were completely blocked off. An hour before the parade started I was able to watch the giant American flags raised using the ladders from fire trucks all along the parade route. I loved the patriotic vibe of the parade and it was really moving to see the parade pass under the billowing flags held high. I love how the parade started off with a tribute to Veterans with representatives from WWII on. Other parade highlights included bagpipe players, floats, bands, and classic vehicles. There were so many participants that the parade that it went on for close to two hours. Almost all of the parade watchers were in green and other St. Patrick's Day finery and the restaurants and businesses along Atlantic Ave were decked out too. This is an awesome dog and family friendly event that brings the community together to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

This was the fifth year of the Delray Beach Concours d' Elegance, a prestigious car show held at…read moreOld School Square in Delray Beach. A concours d' elegance is an exhibition and judged competition of classic, rare, and luxury automobiles. The tradition dates back to 17th-century France, where it began as a parade of horse-drawn carriages. It has since evolved into a festival of automotive craftsmanship. The vehicles that were displayed were evaluated by experts on their appearance, authenticity, and presentation. They have been restored or preserved as closely as possible to their original factory condition. The cars were arranged into categories such as Brass Era, Rolls-Royce Elegance, BMW Classic, Italian Icons, Hypercar, and American Classic. Although the cars were the highlight the event also featured local vendors offering food, drinks, and retail items, along with live music that added to the festive atmosphere. Admission for spectators was free, and I was even able to find free parking in a city lot a few blocks away. One of my favorite sections was the Brass Era display, where the oldest vehicle I saw was a 1899 Mors-Gardon. I also enjoyed exploring the Porsches and learning more about hypercars. Proceeds from the event supported several local charities in Delray Beach, including the Achievement Center for Children & Families, Delray Firefighters Benevolent, Delray Citizens for Delray Police, and the Community Classroom Project and Kitchen.

Parking is across the street and you pay using the Pay by phone app. There are a variety of galleries featuring contemporary art, modern art, Asian art, photography, and rotating special exhibitions. My favorite collections were the Asian Art galleries and the special exhibition highlighting the work and recognition of women artists throughout history. One of the most surprising parts of the visit was the student exhibition featuring artwork created by middle and high school students. The level of talent on display was truly impressive. If you're in Palm Beach County, now is a great time to visit since the museum is currently offering free admission to county residents on Saturdays. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a cultural outing, I highly recommend checking it out.

It was founded in 1941, and expanded in 2019, adding new galleries, a sculpture garden, along with improved public spaces. The museum presents works by masters such sPollock, Miro, Chihuly, Matisse, Calder, KaO'Keeffe, Chagall, Rodin, Picasso, and Hopper, and hosts programs like "Art After Dark" on Friday nights. Henry Morrison Flagler Museum -- it's truly one of my favorite museums…read more The building itself is breathtaking. The atmosphere feels grand and almost surreal -- high ceilings, intricate hand-crafted details, beautiful paintings, and original interiors that have been preserved so carefully. Walking through the rooms feels like stepping back in time. The closets, bathrooms, and living spaces are all still there, untouched, which makes the experience even more special. One detail that really surprised me was the shoes -- they were incredibly tiny, almost like doll shoes. It's amazing to see how different things were back then. On my recent visit, I noticed they opened a new section on the second floor that I hadn't seen before. It's a mix of contemporary art and historical fashion elements -- including clothing details, vintage shoe boxes, and personal items from the original residents. I especially loved the miniature handbags and a wall art piece featuring delicate gloves -- so small, elegant, and made from very fine leather. There are so many unique details to take in. There's also a gift shop on the first floor with a great selection -- we even picked up a Monopoly game themed around the museum, which was such a fun find. They also have books, coloring items, posters, jewelry, accessories, and even small unique souvenirs -- something for everyone. Another highlight is the separate glass building . They recently opened a café there that serves breakfast on weekends. The view is stunning -- overlooking the water with the historic train nearby. The space is bright, clean and very peaceful. The only inconvenience I experienced was when my kids were younger -- strollers are not allowed inside, so keep that in mind if you're visiting with small children. Luckily, I had a baby sling with me, which helped a lot.
