I was planning to go to another place, but it was no longer there. So I looked at Yelp and saw the reviews for The Evening Post. They were good, and I really liked the name. I certainly never would have found it if it weren't for Yelp, as it's kind of wedged in between 2 other buildings. I walked in and was greeted immediately. It seems to be another place that's popular with locals. The server was very good, and paid attention but didn't hover. I ordered that pulled pork tacos. It was a very odd combination of things: pulled pork inside soft tortillas with onion rings, and a few tortilla chips with refried beans and cheese on the side. But somehow, it managed to satisfy a bunch of cravings all at once! And while it didn't look like a huge portion, I could only eat half of it. I brought the other half home for another day. There were lots of interesting and appealing items on the menu. Do yourself a favor and stop by when you're in town. read more

I really wanted to give this place more stars but I just couldn't. Not a fan at all of the beer I ordered, it was the Petosky cherry wheat. Was told it was more like a cider, I'm into ciders and I'm also a fan of cherry wheat. My food was just okay. The fried cauliflower was supposed to have cheese in some way, but I could not tell there was any cheese involved in the making. The chicken bacon ranch wrap was okay, I've had so much better. In my opinion it would have been way better if the chicken was not breaded. Everyone else seemed to think their food was okay too. Portions were large so beware when ordering. What I can say is that the staff seems amazing here. They all had positive attitudes and work together really well as a team. read more

We stopped on our way through because of a good review from a friend. The bone in wings didn't not disappoint! Got Kentucky Bourbon and sweet chili sauce on the side to dip the crunchy wings in. My fiancé and I were passing through this town for lunch and a bathroom break. We picked this place based on what we could we on yelp. I was looking for a salad with grilled chicken and he was looking for a grilled chicken sandwich. When we pulled up to this place, I though "oh, it's an actual bar." It's a bar and grill though. We're not typically "bar food" type of people but we gave it a shot. Plus I had to pee really bad. Their menu in the restaurant didn't have the grilled chicken sandwich listed, but my fiancé asked if he could have it and they said yes. His sandwich was very good. It came out it's a side of chips and a pickle. I got the chicken salad. Just a basic salad - romaine lettuce with tomato and grilled chicken with a side of your choice of dressing. I chose honey mustard which was very good. The grilled chicken was good - moist and not overdone. The lettuce and tomatoes very fresh. We were both happy with the meals. Very inexpensive. Plus clean bathrooms. If you're driving by, it's a very unassuming place, but I recommend giving it a shot. Especially if you're less picky about your food choices! read more

We go to the evening post for taco Tuesday. Pretty solid place. Unfortunately the tacos are not the best, usually get something different. Get the beef if you're going to get them. It is basically a bar! Nothing really fancy about the place other than the very large rooster outside the place. We had the Cuban which was great and the Rachel sandwich which was just okay, in my opinion it could have used more turkey in comparison to the ratio of coleslaw! The WINGS are DELICIOUS! My friend and I ordered 16 wings each thinking that they would be typical wimpy bar wings. When four plates of wings came to the table we realized that we were WRONG. These wings are huge and crispy and delicious! Also, if you get the blue cheese and celery on the side they bring you an entire plate of celery! We ended up in Clare because it was the halfway point for meeting a friend. After realizing most of the other restaurants don't serve beer we decided to drive around till something caught our eye. The giant rooster outside the Evening Post drew us in immediately. This local dive bar was a great choice. The customer service was outstanding. They greeted us quickly and were happy to answer questions and take special requests with a smile. We were happy that they had a couple micro brews on tap, in addition to the standard big name beers you'd expect to find in a small town bar/grill. I ordered the wet burrito with no meat and light cheese. It was big and filing but didn't sit like a lump in my belly. There were ample toppings and the sauce in top was tasty. My husband and his friend ordered burgers topped with green olives. They both said they were good but nothing special. This is a burger bar with big portions and friendly service. Many locals seem to hang out here and enjoy each other's company. Unfortunately, cleanliness is not to be expected. We watched a waitress drop silverware on an obviously dirty floor {lots of crumbs and debris visible) then place it on a table top for an unsuspecting customer to eat with. I asked for a manager to report the health violation, but no manager was on duty. The toilet was fowled and unusable. Our server was great. Very prompt and friendly. It was the reviews on Yelp that influenced my decision to eat here, so I was disappointed to find that the place was, well, a disappointment. Neither of us was impressed with our meal; I had the chicken the waitress said they are "known for" and it was...meh. There were 3 people sitting at the bar, and another table with 2 patrons, and that was it, yet our waitress seemed very distracted. We waited for quite a while after being seated to have her take our orders, and then my dinner companion had to ask for mustard several times. I realize it's a bar, therefore I realize not to set the bar too high, but I expected better based on the reviews. Oh, and even though it's a bar and of course I'm aware people are going to be served alcohol and maybe get a little tipsy even on a Sunday night, but the person tending bar should know when it's time to cut someone off (ie: when they speak far too loudly even though seated between their companions, and when they fall over, stool and all... yeah, that happened). That person was granted another beer upon request...smh. I know there are fewer places to choose from during off season periods, but I'll have to be pretty desperate to try this place again. read more

Great whitefish; good burgers. And the atmosphere, while nothing fancy, is amazingly bright and clean for a small-town bar; it's a place you can bring kids. Service was friendly and prompt. While we have not yet had the opportunity to experience their breakfasts, we have been told that their breakfast menu is good. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add more Michigan beers to their lineup. read more

A basic " drinkin' bar" atmosphere inside, but sheltered patio seating in the summer months. Typical up- north bar food, heavy on the fried stuff -- but really good fish. Not a lot of beer choices.
