I hate to give them a three because I live finding farm fresh produce, but when trying to buy a 1/2 dozen ears of corn I was told dance I didn't buy them pre-bagged I would get the per ear price. But the sign is on the individual ears, including a PE ear, half dozen and full Dozen price. Such a pain to leave the line and go back to get the pre-bag. And it makes no sense unless they ar wore bagging bad ears. Just watch the check out and make sure you are paying what you expect! read more

VEGGIE TALES Stop scrolling for a moment and lettuce tell you about this terrific local farmstand in Westmont. This place is a total blast from years' past! Some of my earliest memories were going to The Farm in October, helping my mom pick out pumpkins and load them into the car. This seasonal farmer's market is right off of Cass & 63rd St, a mere 1-1/2 miles from where I grew up. A few weekends ago, I stopped here with my fiancée as we needed some fresh corn for an upcoming cookout. They're open weekdays from 9-6, on Saturdays from 8-5, and closed on Sundays. Unlike your typical big-box mega grocery, The Farm only operates from April through November. We appreciated all the different vegetables harvested from their family farm in Plainfield/Oswego, IL. The selection was really quite impressive: baskets of bok choy, containers of kohlrabi, and more varieties of onions than I ever knew existed. White, red, Vidalia -- which shallot be?? Nichole C got a honey bear that came from Illinois beehives, and I bought half a dozen cobs of sweet corn from the large bin at 70¢ each. Those prices are tough to beet! They work with a sister farm in Michigan where their fruits come from, in addition to selling fresh herbs (basil, parsley) and small potted plants (mums, sunflowers). Since they use no pesticides or DDT that I know of, swarms of bugs and rotted produce are a very real thing. You'll probably have to swat away a fair amount of flies, cuz these guys are all natural (there was supposed to be a punchline somewhere in there......it'll eventually turnip). Employees didn't laugh at the corny jokes I told while waiting in line at the register, but it's all good. Some days I'm just not on my best pea-havior. * TL;DR * I'm happy to see that The Farm is doing well; everything here is just peachy. They score huge points in my book for stocking veggies that are just about as local as you can get without trespassing on Old McDonald's property. 5 stars for the major nostalgia trip, 5 stars for the opportunity to use a myriad of produce puns. You can yam-mer on about organic stuff and not catch my attention........ but start talking about fresh corn that was picked earlier that same day? I'm all ears. read more

How great is this place? Well, how great is it to have access to LOCALLY grown farm fresh veggies July-Oct? The Farm is a weekly visit for me during these months. I plan a meal here every week, meaning I head over, see what they've got, and plan a recipe. I used to try to grow my own tomatoes but now I let the pros do it because I can choose from a variety of flavorful tomatoes they offer. The sweet corn is picked fresh daily. Plus they have other great products like dried herb blends and jarred tomato sauces and purrees made from their tomatoes. In the fall it's a great pumpkin picking destination. Come out, fill a bag, and taste what tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and corn are supposed to taste like when picked local and don't lose flavor traveling across the country to your super market. ADDENDUM: the addition of the videos of the actual farm along with the cool chalk drawings make this a fun, educational stop for my kids each week. They love coming here and always get excited about the things we can make and eat from our Farm trip. read more

An amazing recent discovery for this floral designer wannabe! I am doing wedding flowers for a low-key wedding and wanted to keep the flowers in that theme while also being beautiful and special. I love the farmer's market flowers that can be found locally, but when my inquiries for bulk orders led to a maybe? I went into research mode. That's when I discovered The Farm! They have several local " shops" in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. They have wonderful seasonal produce, plants and flowers in bunches. I worked with Danielle, the Flower Farmer to source what I needed and she was very helpful and clear. She was working on the fabulous flower bouquets that they sell, especially for the Oak Park farmers market. Such fresh flowers locally grown and picked. read more

A gem local farm stand in western suburbs. I love how you can go there and buy tomatoes, asparagus, and beautiful flowers bouquets any day of the week. They have peaches and corn too. My kids love the tractors ! It's a fun experience that is much easier than the farmers market. read more

I love having seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables from the farm available for our tables so close to home. This family owned place is a jewel we have been enjoying for years. In the spring time they sell flowers but from the end of July one can choose variety of the produce: peppers, beans, cucks, tomatoes, corn, garlic, onions, melons.... just a few to name. They are opens M-Sa making it very convenient for the neighborhood shoppers to stop couple times a week. Just love this place! read more

Short of driving out to the fields and picking the corn yourself, this is the freshest corn you can get. I've been getting fresh corn and other vegetables from "The Farm" for years, and they never disappoint. They only sell the vegetables they grow themselves, but in the past few years they have also allowed a few Michigan farmers to set up a small tent a couple days of the week to sell their berries, peaches and apples! Came here when I happened to randomly pass by this establishment. I love the whole concept of trying to get as close to nature as possible when it comes to food, so when I saw this place I made a sharp, borderline illegal U-Turn because I just HAD TO GO. Parking is tight, but the turnover is quick. Despite how big the establishment looks on the outside, it's not as big as you would think since the inside of the barn is about 80% registers and employee work space. While most things are fresher than what you would get at the grocery store, not everything is. My suggestion is to go for what their special is (aka, the opposite philosophy that you would employ at a restaurant lol). When I went earlier today, as soon as you parked and got out of the car you would smell this fresh, slightly sweet aroma. The smell reminded me of summer barbecues, fresh juicy watermelon, and gingham picnic table cloths. As I followed my nose to see where it would take me it took me to bushels upon bushels of perhaps some of the biggest ears of corn I had ever seen! Not to mention the freshest. The signage above the corn said "50 cents an ear" and right below it it said "picked this morning". NO WONDER it smelled so good! I stocked up on as many as I could. I got a total of 20 ears of corn for about $8 (you got a slight discount depending on how many ears total you were buying). The corn was definitely the highlight. Since they provide produce that is local and in season other items such as dill, and basil seemed slightly withered (it's been getting chilly). Lots of peaches, no apples that I saw. Small but relatively decent selection of pears, and about 9 different types of garlic. Also blueberries, peppers, flowers, herbs, melons, eggplants, leeks, onions, homemade vinegar blends and honey. This place was a "you serve yourself" type of place. Don't expect anyone to come and ask you if you need help or assistance. I would definitely come back because I know exactly what I'm shopping for when I'm out and about. That being said while I would come back again, it won't be to break the bank. I'll most likely be walking out of there in the future like I walked out of there today. With just one item that's ridiculously fresh (like picked that morning), but with a LOT of them (20 ears of corn). Overall, cute place, brings fresh produce locally at a more permanent farmer's market type of philosophy. Most of the items were misses for me. The only hit was the corn which was picked that morning and the fragrance of it made my entire car smell amazing. TL;DR: Come for whatever produce was picked that morning, and leave with pounds and pounds of it. Price is decent over all, but the rest of the produce that is not picked at the peak of its prime is a miss. Parking has a quick turnover. Call ahead for hours and to see if they're open. read more

I love the concept of The Farm. It's a "farmstand" type business in the middle of Westmont that only sells what they are able to grow on their own farm property. A few days a week, they have a group of ladies selling fruits grown in Michigan in a little tent on the property. Maybe it's because I never hit at the right time and what I'm looking for is never in season, but I always walk out with absolutely nothing that I came for. That being said, I do always leave with yummy veggies and fruits, but nothing that brought me there in the first place. In addition to them not having what I'm looking for, some of their produce looks plain gross and/or is mildly expensive. Their tomatoes were cracked and oozing- nothing I would pay for. Their corn was pretty expensive compared to the grocery store across the street selling home-grown Illinois corn, 50 cents an ear at The Farm and 10 cents an ear at Westbrook Market. Oh well, I guess it depends what you are looking for! I guess in summary, I tend to leave The Farm "whelmed." Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed...just whelmed. Some things ROCK, some things don't, and some things are A-OK. I guess it's just pretty darn average in my book. I'd much rather hit up a Farmer's Market given the choice. Last time I went looking for green onions. They had none, but I did leave with some of the fruit lady's delicious peaches. Seriously...those things are awesome. Is it socially acceptable to eat 3 peaches in one day? I might be hitting that mark later tonight. read more

I like going to The Farm! The farmstand, small-business ambiance is nice for summer shopping, and the barn gives it a rustic feel. The produce itself is usually quite good and fresh, and there's a fair variety to choose from. They've got several varieties of everything, and some fresh herbs too. In the summer they've got some great fruits and berries, and in the fall they've got all kinds of squashes, pumpkins, and gourds. They also sell homemade gourd birdhouses, locally sourced honey, and oils infused with fresh herbs. The prices are fair, but what you really go here for is the feel and shopping experience. The teenagers working here always look like they don't want to be there and can have a pretty sour disposition (there are worse summer jobs than working in the fresh air at a farmstand, aren't there?). Also, watch out for the BEES, especially around the berries and other fruits. They've been so bad before that we've gone rushing out of there. Other than that, I'd say check this cute, little place out! I'm certainly glad we came upon it. read more

The Farm is a true farmer's market that is open everyday except Sunday. Unlike a municipal farmers market this is their own farm and produce. For that reason it is somewhat limited to what they grow: corn, onions, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, squash, beans, melons and herbs mostly. I couldn't resist buying the natural honey but have yet to try it. I went on a weekday and there must have been 10 people working, sorting, packing, preparing their inventory. If you want farmers market produce without the pretense of 'locally grown' that is from some distant farm, this is the place. I would've given it a four star but nothing really stood out. read more

We have been shopping here for several years and in the past have been pleased with their produce and diversity of product. This year I have to say prices are up and quality is down. The produce in general is dirty. Ok, I get it, fresh picked from the ground to me, and I can wash fruit and vegetables. But I don't expect to pay above competitive prices and settle for mediocre quality at the same time. A basket of bell peppers we brought home had several rotten ones at the bottom. How fresh could that be. Likewise, some small red onions which looked cute had rot towards the middle of a number of them. The attraction we once had for this place has waned this year, and I noticed that the red peppers at the local Jewel are cheaper and clean. read more

Every so often I try to revist this place. I think in this country we don't know what really good fresh produce should look like or taste like, so people thinks it's great. the sign says "the farm" and it has a great location so people think it actually comes from thier "farm". I suspect they operate like a middle man. It's overpriced for the quality. You can pay as much or less at Whole foods and the quality of produce there is generally very good. When I asked about the corn, which looked a few days old, an older gentleman told me it was "picked this morning." There is NO WAY it was picked that morning. Don't be fooled. read more

I go to The Farm frequently. Their produce is wonderful and plentiful. My only complaint is that the teen workers always look like they don't want to be there. If you're greeted, it's very monotone- like they're doing what they've been told to. Cheer up kids! read more

I'm surprised dan (previous reviewer) "nothing stood out"? really? did you eat the produce before the review??? cause I have and everything stood out! i don't know where to start! the melon omg was like a little taste of heaven so sweet and juicy. corn that doesn't ask for butter because its so deliciously rich with flavor, the tomatoes made my BLT to die for. sure i could go on and on cabbage made my coleslaw scrumptious. eggplant ditto. i go to the one on 63rd and cass. after getting my veggies i drive down the road to whole foods for my meat. i am just amazed that anyone would pay the prices at whole foods for "locally" grown veggies while the farm is just up the road with better pricing choice etc. when neighbors plant veggie gardens I'm curious is it an ardent hobby they enjoy? i hope so because when you can just make a short trip and buy the best farmed veggies why the heck would you otherwise bother spending all that time and labor. read more

My first time here and was pleasantly surprised. The prices are really good! Nothing fancy to be found here. There were about 15 fruit/veggie stands in front of the barn with corn, eggplant, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, and melons. That is all I am remembering at the moment. There was no staff out front that I saw but there were 4 cashiers inside that were nice - appeared to be young (maybe High School or College age). We bought 3 huge zucchinis, 3 huge eggplants, 3 huge cucumbers, 7 ears of corn, 1 canteloupe (the best we've ever had from anywhere) and 2 large tomatoes. Our bill came to a little over $12. I am venturing to guess that if we bought all that at a grocery store, our bill would have been over $30 easily. The only thing that seemed a bit pricey were the tomatoes. 2 large tomatoes were almost $1.00 'each' - maybe because I only bought 2? Everything else made up for it thought! We'll be making regular trips there. I wish they had apples, strawberries and blueberries. read more
