Actually I wanted to go to Melbourne for a week, but I was too busy. Amble Bed and Breakfast in Hahndorf did the trick. I wouldn't usually pay $200 for an overnight stay, but I wouldn't usually stay in a bed and breakfast either so...there you go. Amble was really lovely, and I wasn't let down in any respect. One of the cleaners did accidentally walk in while I was changing at five minutes to checkout time, but that was more of a humorous incident than a let-down. The property is really beautiful. The couple who run the place have made a beautiful garden that surrounds the three separate little cottages, which back onto a big field with horses and beautiful trees. We stayed in the Amble Wren Cottage which was excellent. DVDs, free wireless, a television, miniature kitchen, sweet green oak tree wall-paper, cosy lighting, a heater and a spa. We didn't leave except to demolish all of Hahndorf's sausages and beers, stumble back and fall into the spa. Which, while we're on the topic, looked out onto a beautiful view of the countryside. The owners were very friendly but not invasive (well except for that one accident), the wifi was reliable and I got to watch Me, Myself & Irene in bed while drinking champagne. What more could you ask for? Oh, and complementary locally sourced breakfast ingredients - eggs, sausage, bacon and OJ. And fancy chocolates.

I've gotten cheap stays elsewhere where I've ended up having to spend heaps on extras.

Kidogo Cottage is a little self-contained cottage in McLaren Vale. It is small and cosy but has everything you need for a short stay, including a kitchen, bar fridge, tv with dvd player and movies, board games, wood-burning fireplace, a private bedroom and attached ensuite bathroom with shower. The cottage is situated in the middle of beautiful vines in the heart of the vale. When you sit on the large front deck, you can't help but get lost in the gorgeous views! The cottage also boasts a full-size hot tub spa that is built into the front deck, and offers access to a small pool, too. My partner and I have spent two weekends at Kidogo. The first was two years ago, and we've been talking about coming back ever since. We finally managed that second visit a few weeks ago, and everything was just as lovely as we remembered. The owner, Kerrie, is fantastic to deal with and always leaves a nice bottle of wine and breakfast provisions for us. In short, Kidogo Cottage is the perfect place to plan a charming, quiet getaway in McLaren Vale.

Well, this happens to be that pub, and it certainly does meet its needs. They have a pretty awesome beer garden out the back, and they have a great range of beers as well. Oh, and the location next to the park is just perfect. Mind you, it does get pretty packed on those days the day-trippers flock down, but as a pub it is definitely pretty cool.

We'd had many lunches and dinners over the years there always good. This time however... I developed a dreadful FOOD POISONING from tje undercooked chicken. I'm a nurse and know this was poisoning. I couldn't work for a few days and was extremely unwell after paying a good amount of money for the lunch. Apparently your chef ( at the time ) likes to UNDER COOK chicken and fish. I told your restaurant x3 about this and nobody ever contacted me.. I asked to speak to the manager BUT this never occurred. I was mortified at your lack of care as potential salmonella and food poisoning is dire for people. I won't risk eating there again.
