Please read this before choosing this clinic -- my experience was deeply painful and avoidable. I started treatment at the Fertility Center of Kalamazoo after being referred by Lakeland of St. Joseph. From the beginning, I felt like just another chart. The front desk was cold, and when I presented a $250 referral coupon, I still received a bill. When I followed up, the billing team was dismissive and condescending -- a tone that sadly reflected the rest of my experience. During my IUI prep, I was on Letrozole and responding well. Then, without warning or compassion, a nurse told me I couldn't move forward with treatment and needed surgery for a septate uterus. No empathy. No bedside manner. Just a clinical shutdown of everything I had been emotionally and physically preparing for. I later transferred to the Grand Rapids location, where I had the surgery -- and to their credit, the surgical care there was excellent. That's the only part of this journey that felt supportive and professional. Unfortunately, what came next was far worse. I was prescribed Cabergoline 0.5mg -- 30 tablets to be taken daily. I followed the instructions exactly. When I began having severe side effects (hallucinations, migraines, abdominal pain), I messaged the clinic through MyChart to ask if this dose was correct. The nurse confirmed it was. No corrections. No concern. After almost a month, I followed up again. Only then did they admit the prescription had been dangerously wrong -- I was supposed to take the medication once per week, not daily. That's a 7x overdose. By then, my prolactin had dropped to a critically low 0.3, and my IUI cycle was likely compromised. The clinic admitted the error and said it was due to an automated system mistake that went unnoticed. They offered me a $400 credit. While I appreciated the honesty, it didn't come close to addressing the emotional, physical, or financial toll I endured. Worse still, I received a combative phone call from a practice manager who raised her voice, blamed me for the error, and completely disregarded my experience. Later, I got a letter from a provider I had never seen, further denying responsibility and encouraging me to continue care. It felt like gaslighting. In short: * I was prescribed 7x the correct dose of a medication. * I followed instructions and even verified it with the clinic -- they confirmed it. * I experienced serious physical and emotional side effects. * The mistake went uncorrected for nearly 30 days, impacting my IUI cycle. * I was later dismissed, blamed, and spoken to in a hostile way -- despite the clinic admitting fault. Medical mistakes can happen -- but how a clinic responds makes all the difference. What I experienced was a failure of communication, accountability, and empathy. I'm sharing this because reproductive care is deeply personal, and patients deserve to feel safe and heard. I hope my story helps someone else make an informed decision. read more

Before selecting this center and before considering their services, particularly using a sperm or egg donor, I strongly recommend speaking to an actual donor conceived person. I was expecting out-of-this-world service based on what I have heard, but, after three months of waiting to get in for an appointment, I was thrown more avoidable hurdles. Instead of moving forward quickly, I am now having to continue to wait to start my family due to the lack of availability of their staff - this was a foreseeable issue which could have been avoided by booking this additional appointment when I called months ago for the first appointment, but, instead I am helplessly watching one more cycle pass by, as I wait for a non-essential appointment with their on-staff counselor. There were no attempts made to get me in more quickly so that their constraints would not impact my speed-to-conception. I am incredibly disappointed, and didn't expect to leave their office crying today, as I did, especially after waiting so long to get the initial appointment. In addition, after setting up my initial appointment months ago, I had called the office to determine what tests I needed to take to be prepared for the process. I went in and had that testing done, but arrived at the office today to find that there was a bunch of additional testing which was not mentioned that I now need to get done which could have been done at the same time as the prior testing. I don't know what to do - I guess I will spend the day tomorrow calling clinics in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois to see if anyone can make up for the ground which The Fertility Center has cost me - at this rate, it will be over five months into this process with TFC before any procedure is actually performed, as I just sit and watch additional chances pass me by. Just my recommendation, but the best way to have success in the fertility process is to find an office that is actually prepared to help you conceive! I hope that others can find this review helpful and won't allow their plans to be postponed by this office for so long. If I would have known this would be the outcome, I would have not made an appointment with The Fertility Center. I feel that TFC certainly doesn't have my best interests at heart. I can't imagine being one of those couples who have tried to conceive for years, only to receive this same treatment - the idea is heartbreaking. read more

I have been a patient of the fertility center for 5+ years at this point. During that time I've spent countless thousands of dollars on timed intercourse, IUI, 2 fresh IVF cycles, 7 embryo transfers, 4 miscarriages, and finally a live birth with donor embryos. The staff is amazing and compassionate, the doctors are wonderful, they listen, and they personalize their care. They are the only clinic on this side of the state, and one of a few that offer a robust donor program. The reality is that they often have waits for appointments. It can be frustrating to feel like you've been sidelined, but it is absolutely worth the wait. Compared to other programs, their pricing is fair and reasonable. read more

Worst administration staff. I went here before having a baby to check my "apparatus" just for a consultation and it was such a negative experience. They had me come in 1 hour before my appointment time even though I completed and faxed the multiple pages of information they require ahead of time. My husband and I took off from work and were just waiting and waiting over the 3 hours we were there just to get a quick pee and blood pressure check and to speak to the doctor for 10 mins. I paid the bill over the phone as soon as I received it, but every month after that they kept sending me past due bills and eventually a freaking collections notice for the $100+ that I had paid for the consultation which would have been free had they helped me register for that (see below). I was pregnant, busy working full-time and very tired trying to get a hold of them to ask why they are doing this and when I finally did they THEN told me the payment didn't go through. Prior to this they had an offer on their website for a free consultation which you could only book online, but it wouldn't let me register on their website which I tried on my phone and laptop. I called them back then to try to register over the phone and they would not do it and were not helpful even though I let them know their site won't allow me to register. I hate to rant and complain, and while the doctors themselves seem professional and knowledgeable, I was appalled by the lack of customer service by their administrative team. Fertility is such a sensitive and very expensive process that the least the doctors could do is have helpful, compassionate staff. Even friends I know that have gone through IVF have mentioned the same. I feel because they are the only fertility clinic in town they feel they can be rude, preying on desperate want-to-be parents. I believe the other closest option is in Lansing. I'm so fortunate I was able to naturally conceive and not ever have to use them because I would rather not have a child than deal with this clinic. read more

My husband and I went to the Fertility Center for a few months and we did the fertility shots along with IUI. It never took but staff were friendly enough and made the whole process comfortable. We did not get pregnant and paid lots of $$$. The unsavory experience was after we decided to stop the treatments. I had a couple more invoices to pay and was matching my payments to my collection of invoices. I paid all of it already based on my records but I got an invoice - saying I still owe some money. I called and asked for a detailed charges and payment report. And as expected, the listed payments on their record does not match all the payments I made. When I called again to ask for a different report their billing lady was rude and told me she can't do anything because it is now in collections. I told her I don't care as long as I can straighten this out. She sent me another report but it was the same as before. So I still can't figure out where all my payments were applied to and I am not getting any help. I ended up just paying it because I don't want to deal with Carol anymore. The people that work in the billing department should understand that this whole process is not cheap and if we watch where our money goes - it does not mean we don't want to pay. And unfortunately, after all that cost, we did not even get pregnant. And mind you, it is not because we can't get pregnant - because we are now, a few months after and it happened naturally. read more

Multiple problems will billing. One instance they told us we were approval through our insurance. We we're not and paid big. Be sure to ask every visit what codes they used. They try to push the expensive things right from the start. We had two kids on our own with no issues, then had 7 miscarriages in a row. Always pushing donor eggs or IVF. After years of hormones, shots, and multiple procedures (two that should have found the issue) they found a bunch of polyps. Doing IVF probably wouldn't have worked with all the polyps. Ironically they were looking for something else when they found them. Given the symptoms (miscarriage, irregular cycle, bleeding mid cycle) this should have been notice from the start. At the follow up visit what do you think they suggested right off the bat.....IVF. Seriously? We just found an issue. It was like paying mechanic thousands to keep working on the engine when all we had was a flat tire. read more

I developed a pulmonary embolism from birth control and wanted to see if that would effect me getting pregnant. I went to see Dr Dodd and he was the only one that traced my blood clot through s clotting disorder. He was kind, explain everything in detail and knowledgeable. He also gave me all my options. I would highly recommend this clinic. read more

This clinic is riddled with incompetence. From the confused accounting department who never know which one of their systems your information is in to the medical staff who fail to get to know their patients and always appear to be caught off guard in consultations. Grand Rapids deserves better. The clinic we are using out of state partners with the patient, understands their individual case and provides an efficient and easy to deal with operation. read more

Drs and nurses who really care. Great place.

The fertility center is very up to date medically, but their billing is a crazy mess. They tell you to try to be as stress free as possible during the fertility process. However, I found that very hard to do with the constant hounding of their billing center. The fertility center was in network with my insurance and yet every time there was a bill it somehow wasn't submitted correctly and we were liable. I would have to call the billing center and the insurance company with ever single submission and 90% of the time it was the fertility center's fault. Super stressful. read more
