After spending too much money on things and needing things that weren't so easy to find, I turned to these fine people at AGE for help. They provided me with the much needed elevated leg rests for my wheelchair and an extra walker bc it's not so easy to drag those things around when you're using a scooter. Cindy was the best! I'm very happy that they helped me when I needed it. They take donations, so if you have some unused medical equipment, check with them to see if there is a need. I know they work with some other organizations that provide similar services if they aren't accepting a particular item.

It's an open space with a built-in bar and concession stand that can be used. The second one is an open barn that can be used for really anything. The third is a storage barn. This property is owned by a nonprofit that supports the local Deaf community, so not only will you be renting a great spot, you'll be supporting a great cause.

This organization is dedicated to helping low income people with HIV. A super great cause just because they lend a helping hand to those in need. Our volunteer manager was super polite and grateful for our work. Sometimes just working with the best people make volunteering so much better then it actually is. In this case it definitely was a fun experience. We helped to clean up the garden, rake leaves, and take out the trash. Overall, project transitions is great in terms of their service and how they treat their volunteers.

They have been creating FUNdraising events to support people living with HIV/AIDS since 1988, focusing their efforts on various forms of housing - Doug's House, Roosevelt Gardens, and Highland Terrace and Community Housing. This past weekend I participated in one of their fundraising events called Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and for a $100 donation, feasters have an opportunity to eat at one of many private gatherings of wonderful food and company. I had the most amazing meal experience at Gateway Guesthouse where Bess and Blaise hosted Mississippi Rising* -the conceptual idea for a meal that seemed to not end. We took a trip down the Mississippi, from Minnesota to Texas... which fits in nicely with my own personal history. The 2 hour meal was followed by dessert and drinks at Nest, with hundreds of dinner revelers from the many other amazing dinners around Austin. This was my first year, but I guarantee that I will do it again. In December, I was treated to their Holiday Swing party by a couple friends and participated in the Silent Auction where I was thrilled to donate a pile of money to PT. In addition, they have a Texas Swing fundraiser and a Red Hot XX party at Oilcan's. They also operate Top Drawer Thrift Store, have a Bike Curious team for Hill Country Ride for Aids, and are a beneficiary of the HCRA. Project Transitions needs volunteers for a variety of activities for their residents and also for throwing these many events. The area feels up-and-coming, with small shopping centers popping up, but fair warning: people drive like they're running from Satan. Like they're late for something, so if you're heading north turning into the complex, expect to miss the entrance and loop back. The entrance is NOT obvious. Look near Home Depot. Plenty of parking once you get there. Inside, the office is quiet, clean, and calm, with a reasonable number of people handling various tax and registration business. You check in at a kiosk and get your place in line via text. ***Important note for voters***: there is no kiosk option for voter registration or voter info updates. Don't select "registration." You'll be waiting forever behind people needing BIG THINGS . Instead, grab a voter registration form, fill it out, and then walk straight up to the counter to turn it in. No line. No wait. Don't be scared to do it, either. I only figured this out by selecting "information only" the second time back up to the kiosk and the info lady THEN told me this. There's zero signage explaining any of this, so I would like to save people a lot of time. Once I did it the right way, I was in and out quickly. I went during my lunch break and made it home in time to clock back in. Mission accomplished. Easy visit, efficient staff, and lots of parking. Just wish the voter registration process was explained better upfront.

This was on a Tuesday afternoon, in the middle of the day. Karen is the one who helped us. She was super calm, friendly, and patient. Gave us the papers we needed to fill out, we gave her the papers she needed, and maybe 20-25 min later we were all set. She even asked us some more personal questions to lighten the mood, and upon leaving I had a few unrelated questions to ask her (about a title transfer but for a different vehicle I had), and she happily answered everything and even gave me a little print out of what the estimated taxes might cost. Really appreciated that. Anyway, I recommend this location!

Thing Two has been here for multiple girl scout events (including today). I have voted, worked out, played racquetball, sat with my thoughts in the community garden and so much more here. This is one of the best community centers I have ever seen. As I have lived in this community for many years, I have seen this community center evolve from the basic amenities to what now houses an adequate sized gym, a racquetball players dream, an indoor regulation sized basketball court, a place to meet friends and so much more. It's often times like this when I realize that I am so fortunate to live in a community that is able to fund such an amazing place where the community actually comes together to celebrate our common interests. #bewellcentraltx

KAB is an awesome organization that allows individuals and organizations to adopt a street or creek and clean it up several times a year. Bull Creek is one of my favorite greenbelts so 4 times a year I help clean it up. This year I worked with over 100 4th graders to remove invasive plants and spread Wildflowers. We also educated the kiddos on how litter affects the water and soil and how native plants prevent soil erosion and how important it is to stay on the trails to preserve the natural flora and fauna. KAB is Keeping Austin Beautiful and you should too! It is very rewarding!

We have adopted a creek through KAB which means we agree to clean it up at least 4x a year for 2 years. KAB provides all the supplies we need each time. And they arrange for CoA to come pick up all the trash bags we leave behind. Easy peasy. We do it with a group of kids and their parents. The kids LOVE it. They feel important for doing something good for the Earth and love spending time in nature and always enjoy finding weird stuff and putting it in the trash or recycling where it belongs. Additionally, KAB offers a free camp in the Summer and now only opens it up to their kids who volunteer with them. Can't beat that! We did the camp last year and one day went on the most awesome local tour EVER- The Texas Disposal Systems Landfill. I kid you not. Freakin' awesome!! All the people that work at the KAB office are awesome and truly dedicated. You'd be silly not to go out and adopt a creek or park or SOMETHING right now!! Do your part, people! ;)

After searching for months for the perfect venue, I stumbled upon Amala Foundation while searching…read moreonline for a unique setting for our wedding reception. After our initial tour, I fell in love with the location and atmosphere of the space. Jessie assisted my mom and I in every part of the planning process. He was immediate with responses to emails and phone calls. We chatted back and forth for roughly 8 months to ensure every detail could be accommodated for our wedding needs. The weather was perfect on our reception evening, which was great considering the outdoor setting. We were able to set up a photo booth outside of the main house, as well as several cocktail tables and bar stools for our guests to enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails before the dancing and party began. The beautiful exterior plants and trees embraced what we love so much about Austin-nature. The yoga studio was a perfect space for our DJ and dance floor. We set up a bar on the upper deck and vignettes with a fire pit for groups to sit around and chat between dancing. The space was just large enough for our 60 guests. We had originally expected 100, but it would have been a tight fit and almost uncomfortable for dancing, etc. We are still receiving compliments on our choice of such a beautiful setting and celebration. The cost of the location was much closer to our needs and budget, as well as offered more of a unique experience for our guests than hotels and other outdoor venues we'd looked at. Overall, we were very pleased with the location and service we were provided by Jessie and his staff. I'd recommend this location to anyone for any type of event!
