5 o'clock is puppy hour at the Fields. On the north end of the park is an enclosed area designated for doggies to frolick with each other. For those who choose to stroll with their pup, a one-way track encircling the field is packed from nose-to-tail during this peak time. The Fields Park first opened in May 2013. It is an urban greenspace/ dog park located in the Pearl District. It is approximately 3.2 acres large. There is a very nice fenced-in play area for children on the edge of the park. Other than the play area, the park is made up of one large, flat, open grass space. It is very popular with dog owners who sometimes fail to clean up after their furry friends. So always look carefully when walking on the grass area. The Fields Park is easily reached by streetcar if you don't want to struggle with parking. There is a nice view of Fremont bridge from the park and it is located right next to an outstanding coffee shop called Ovation. read more

My neighborhood park and I came here sometime to just view sunset, when I feel like taking a walk. I also come to play with my friend's' kids or practice my yoga poses. Not a big place but I love to watch dogs (or kids) running and playing. There is a small section where kids can play in sand and some equipments, too. Close to some restaurants and you can view a park from a coffee shop if you are a little bit cold (or hot?). Additionally, I like that I can see the water tower from the park perfectly, somehow gives me a nostalgic feeling because it was supposed to be taken down and still remains there as of today, it is a iconic view of Portland. read more

Other than the self-righteous, hovering and judgmental hipster helicopter parents from nearby condo's this place is pretty cool. Neat little playground with some fun equipment. Cool fields for soccer or whatnot. We were visiting from out of town and saw the park and stopped. Apparently, we aren't known "regulars" and some of the parents were afraid we were going to break some of their precious toys and made comments in a passive aggressive manner. Listen folks, the hammock my kids were swinging on was made of steel. Sorry, my son eats meat instead of tofu and weighs more than yours but he still isn't going to break it. Heck, Sasquatch could probably swing on it. BTW, I didnt see any weight limits, so maybe you need to put in a request to the Parks and Rec for a new sign if you are so worried about it. Seriously, there was just a very odd and judgey vibe coming from these folks. I didn't let it bother me too much while we were there but just know that if you visit, you need to adhere to their "unwritten rules" or risk being tisk tisked and talked about. The Fields Neighborhood Park is the newest park in Portland's Pearl District. I came across it on my recent visit to Portland and decided to do a walk through. There is a children's playground in front. Though it seemed like most kids were at Jamison Square down the street playing in the water fountains as it was hot out. The rest of the park is just full of short grass and areas to sit. Mostly saw people lying on the grass doing sunbathing here. Fortunately the park is huge so you can claim a piece of it without being protruded on by others. It is not really the park though that is the biggest sell. It is the view of the Fremont Bridge and 405 in the distance which I find most appealing about this spot. Of the three parks now in the Pearl District, this park is my favorite because it is the largest and it seems like a good place to calm your senses and get a sun tan at the same time amidst the urban sprawl. read more

I've been taking a ton of long dog walks lately, and this has been a regular stop on my route. I've always been a fan of this public space, but I feel like it's been a lifesaver for me and other downtown residents. Of course right now the amenities are shut down. MAYBE the off leash dog area is open, but I haven't checked. Instead, I just use the namesake field as a halfway point on my walks, where I sip a coffee from either Snow Bunny or Ovation and brush the pup. There's lots of people getting fresh air, sunshine and exercise. And even with everything falling apart downtown, they still manage to keep this public space clean and safe. Good job, folks! On the weekends it gets a bit too busy and you can tell people aren't properly social distancing. But on a weekday morning? This place is my escape, and I think I'd be handling shelter-in-place a lot worse if I didn't have this little stop on my dog walks. read more

Nice, spacious park in the Pearl District. My friend and I came here for an event that was taking place at The Fields Neighborhood Park, and it was an easy stroll from the Alphabet District. As mentioned, the park is spacious, and has an urban feel to it with the surrounding tall, condo buildings around. I imagine this park is especially convenient for those who live in one of the buildings and/or around the area. There was a small playground area that was closed off from the main grass area, and I also noticed there was a dog area, which was also separated. The location seems to be the winning factor here, as it's located in such a popular neighborhood and is accessible. For the event that my friend and I attended there were hundreds of people in the main grass area, and it never felt crowded. Glad the venue of the event worked out well. read more

This is another great park in the Pearl. It's surrounded an.tgree sides with modern condos the fourth side is open with great views. There is a small but popular playground, a few plantings area but the star here is a big field of grass that slopes down towards the river. I was there in the morning on a weekday already there was a half dozen kids and their adults in the playground. Several runners past quickly through. It's a nice park. read more

Took my two muppets here tonight and we all really enjoyed it. Theres a small and a large dog park, and looked like even a dog class going on in the field, really cool looking playground as well for kiddos. Heads up when you come don't be like me and wear sandals, it'll just be constant shaking your feet to get rid of tiny pebbles ha. Other than that it was really nice and calm. There was a constant flow of dogs, parking was pretty easy to find, and best of all it was nice to get out of the house and meet some neighbors. We'll be back soon :) read more

This place is gorgeous! Lots of grassy areas and well manicured park with a view of the bridge. The Pearl District is the "up and coming" hip part of Portland though it is not close to capacity. I would totally love to live nearby and take the kids to just run area until they are pooped. Was recently here for FeastPDX event smoked. Love the backdrop shots here of the newer and older buildings. Easily walking distance to downtown area as well (Yes, I've done it in 10 minutes since I didn't stop) Amazing view of the Fremont bridge from here. Fields Park, big grassy area, big as a football field, and 1 of 3 parks in the Pearl within a short 4 block walk. In the summer there are movies on a blow up big screen, bring a chair, wine and picnic. There are occassional events happening, right now is a hard cider festival. Mostly the park is for R&R. Great views of the Fremont Bridge. Place to kick a soccer ball, toss a frisbee, throw a football, stretch and do yoga. Playground for kids. Dog park. It's got it all for a fun time by all who stop by. Lots of shops and eateries close by, blink and pick one. read more

We live a few blocks away and find ourselves at the fields on a daily basis. This park has a very surreal view, something I can't really explain... the Fremont, old Mill building, the Encore, Willamette river, etc. You can see so much from this beautiful park! There is a really cool playground with a huge sandbox that looks like a lot of fun. My daughter is only 9 months old now, but I have a feeling she will love this place very soon. The dog area looks pretty good, but there is no shade for the dogs or owners. The big grassy area is common ground for many games, sun tanners, and we have even seen somebody doing their own weaving there. There are also three picnic tables, and barbecues are allowed as long as they are at least 6" off the ground. The only downsides are lack of consistent shade, and no crosswalk into the park itself, but we love this place. The Fields has really helped build even more community into a very community-oriented neighborhood. Thank you Portland Parks & Rec for our favorite spot in Portland! read more

Another awesome park in the Pearl. Really neat dog areas, separated for big and small. Lots of grass to lay out on and a really neat view of the Fremont bridge. I went right at 4:30-5pm during rush hour, and sat and read for work on the grass and smiled watching the slow traffic up on the bridge and 405 freeways. The new park seems well worth the fuss. read more

Located in north pearl district - The Fields is a great place to stretch out and enjoy some sunshine and let your kids run around a little fenced off area on the playground. However this playground is more for 5+ toddlers than wee ones. The playground consists of ropes and metal structuring so a fall wouldn't feel too good and everything you play requires some sort of climbing and balance. In the same play area though is a nice little sand pit for little or big kids to play in and build sandcastles and whatnot. I am a bit concerned of the cleanliness of the sand because at one point my daughter and I were digging and it all of a sudden wreaked of poop - so of course we stopped playing. other than that - lots of walkable places to eat and drink for a nice little day trip to the park with your kids, by yourself, or with your pet! read more

My kids loved this park. The playground is unique compared with other nearby parks. There is a sand box that was clean. Both the playground and the sandbox are inside a gated area, which is awesome. One of the outdoor public restroom stands is at this park. During the summer they have free movies here and live music. read more

This park is weird. The grassy area is GREAT for dogs. But the playground is so...basic. It has a sleek design but it's just awkward. I mean...that playground was built for ME. I have been a few times in cold weather and it's been cool. Recently though, I thought I'd pick up my husband from work since he couldn't ride his bike that day. I ended up playing on said playground and had a great time when hardly anyone else was really there. It was cool! That slide looked harsh though. No thank you. But that weird sandpit....with its low concrete ends. I witnessed a little girl almost smash her face into it. All the parents just about had heart attacks. Thankfully her face was half an inch away. But it was *so close*. Honestly, I can see why some of the parents who live in the area appear to be so angry even upon just entering the play area. I'd be mad too if I was some 30 or 40 something aging pseudohipster paying $$$$$ to live there and didn't have a good quality play area for my child. It's an aesthetically cute little playground but man it is really not practical. They really should've gone with a more natural playground style that's a little more down-to-earth, just as "cute" if not cuter, and way more kid-friendly. Hopefully it can be better for the little ones. But for what it's worth...it's an amazing park for the furbabies. And they're just as important! read more

The Portland Craft Beer Fest is hosted at this venue. I truly truly enjoy this park. It is got tremendous amount of space for big events and the grass is so well maintained at this park. The location is very easy to get to and if you have to drive to this park, the street parking around this park is plenty. I love love love the grass at this park, which I believe is the best feature at this park. It is so nice and soft and super relaxing to be on while sipping beer and eating food with friends. If I were to live in this neighborhood, I can imagine being able to hang out with my husband and my puppy here for a picnic or something. read more

It's A Minimum Security Litterbox This park seems as if it was designed by choosing random items from a park supply catalog till the budget was used up. Some little girls who grew up in a building nearby and were waiting (a good portion of their lives!) for the field they used to play in to finally re-open as this glorious park they were promised were very disappointed - and angry! The children's play area - one of them said - seemed designed to be uncomfortable - so you can't sit on anything very long. (like the benches in The Pearl that are designed to keep the homeless from staying too long. Were the park designers thinking of children in the same terms? Or was that just their previous experience?) The sand isn't soft to fall on. It's very course and hard-packed. But easy to maintain. The dog park is maybe the most disappointing aspect of all. A small desolate shadeless caged area that seems more like a containment facility than a park. Originally the water spigot could not be used except by maintenance crew (they seem to have relented and added a handle). About half the time I've walked by there are no dogs there at all. I'm sure the large grassy field that makes up the majority of the park will get some use. It's usually nearly empty, but on weekends some volleyball and whatnot happens. It's just plain weird that the designers opted for so little shade and such segregated and regimented flora. This is not a terrible place to be. Yes, it can be awfully depressing sometimes. Especially the dog area. But it's just a really expensive waste of greater potential. read more

I had high hopes for this park. From a dog owner's perspective and as a father of 2 younger children, I am quite disappointed. It seems the designers of the park not only were childless and dogless, but hated both children and dogs. A metal slide, seriously? Not to mention nearly all-metal for the rest of the play structure. Granted, Portland has more than its fair share of overcast days, but there are sunny days, and the metal does get hot! There's a grassy area big enough to host a high school soccer match with all students attending, which apparently is used instead by a half dozen somewhat local college students for sunbathing and tossing the occasional frisbee. Meanwhile, dogs are relegated to essentially a gravel pit where only a chihuahua could get up to full speed before hitting the other side. I hope future park planners think more about how an outside space could actually be used, and less mesmerized by the beautiful proportions and symmetry on the blueprints. read more

UPDATE: two days after I wrote this review, a water faucet and hose were installed in the dog park and the maintenance man was headed that way to blow the granite off the walkways ... The only reason I didn't give this park 5 stars is because of the ridiculously small area fenced in for dogs. The regulars have named the dog area Gitmo NW. The ground cover is crushed granite, I think. It absorbs and reflects heat to allow one to experience Death Valley. The granite gets stuck between dogs' toes and peoples' toes too if one wears sandals, on a hot day the scent of urine is overwhelming and there is no shade. There is only one bench with a back and the fencing is so high off the ground, balls and small dogs escape under it on a regular basis. Someone has donated water bowls and although there are water faucets to fill the dog water bowls, there are no handles to turn the water on. The lawn area is huge. What a shame it wasn't planned differently to make the dog area a little larger & friendlier and the lawn area a little smaller. But it is what it is. If you are checking this site to find an off-leash dog park, I suggest you head to Hillsdale or Lake Oswego; go anywhere but The Fields. .K read more

Myself and Booboo my American Rat Terrier came to The Fields on opening day expecting a great dog park, but alas what we have seen and experienced was a extremely small and bland dog area which was still parceled out into large and small dog area and NO SHADE and it was a very hot day multiplied by the hot sun beating down on that awful gravel. Needless to say Booboo had trouble walking on that gravel and was totally listless because of the heat. The water supply was not made to fill a dog bowl with water however it is possible but both of you could suffer from heat stroke before the bowl is filled. We both ended up being sorely disappointed and disgusted with the amount of time and money that went into this park and we will never go back (we did go back one more time but did not stay for more than 5 minutes of hiding underneath the bench). Our beloved park and dog park is Wallace Park where there are shade trees and one huge dog park area that is enjoyed by all types and sizes of dogs that frolic together there every day. Wallace dog park has die hard attendees that will drive clear across town and unfortunately we just moved to SE Portland on the cusps of Gresham but we will be visiting Wallace once a week. read more

Located in the safe and clean Pearl District, this park is a great place to take family and pets. The park is manicured with plenty of grass to play in, a playground, and a dog park. Three other parks are within six blocks. Restaurants, cafes, and stores are located within two minutes of walking. Great place to take guests visiting Portland!
