My local fish and chippery...always fresh and tasty. Not the cheapest seafood takeaway but definitely one of the best.

Finally! A place that offers gluten free fish and chips. The gluten free batter is incredible.

Review Highlights - The Fishmongers Wife

In Brisbane, for the relatively cheap cost of the meals, it's the most standout fish and chippery.

The general rule of thumb is that when you find an awesome fish and chip shop, you stick to it. I…read morecan tell you that my attachment to my local fish and chippery, Fish's in Teneriffe, might be a little unhealthy. And not just in the beer-battered kind of a way. It has gotten to a point where I turn my nose up and any other option for the combination of potatoes and barramundi. Now that's good fish and chips! Although I usually indulge in the takeaway variety, Fish's is also a restaurant and has a relaxed, family atmosphere. Along with the usual fish and chips, there are burgers, seafood platters, meals, mussels, oysters, prawns and calamari also on offer. If it comes from the ocean, chances are Fish's have it! And it's as fresh as fresh can be. If you are looking for somewhere to get excellent fresh prawns for Christmas or a BBQ, theirs come highly recommended by me! As does the cajun fish. I veered away from crumbed fish a little while ago and lashed out with the cajun (a big deal considering I'm a creature of habit) and it is awesome! For reasonable prices, Fish's offer huge portions of (in my opinion) the best fish and chips in Brisbane. The wait is never long and the food is fresh and delicious. Get to Teneriffe for a taste!

Gambaro's looks fancy from the website... but when we went there, it looked more like a glorified fish and chip shop. The array of old style cola drinks was really yummy and so was the seafood though, everything was fresh. We ordered the seafood hot and cold platter for 2 ($91 dollars) and what we got was more of a seafood platter for 2 that looked like it was worth the $20. So my family and I weren't too sure if it was worth going back there for the seafood platter if not for these vouchers we printed out via the social living website. The prices are very up there for what you see, but the fair is good... I guess that's what you want! Fresh fish, calamari and prawns. It's a very popular joint, I saw most of the tables fill up, and I asked the owner if it was a busy day, and she did point out to me that they were also all voucher people. Many of the regulars tend to get the bucket of prawns to share... but on a hot summers day... not really that great to sit at such a fancy shopping arena at a daggy looking seafood takeaway. Maybe in winter?

But here's the catch: they charge to the hilt for the basic things like tomato sauce. RIP OFF!! So still it to the Gambaros and bring your own sauce. You might look like a bit of a stingy dag, but hey, you're eating you dinner and drinking cheap wine at a fish and chip shop. Let's not get airs about ourselves...

Had reminded the staff twice about not receiving my drink. After waiting half an hour and everyone at my table having finished their own drink and food, I noticed my drink sitting at the bar. Waited five minutes and watching a wait staff glance at the receipt and decide to take another drink across the other side of the bar. Having waited long enough, and as a young woman being concerned about my drink sitting there unattended with other patrons standing around it I went and grabbed it. I checked the receipt and confirmed it was mine before taking it. When I sat down, the security guy literally tried to wrestle my drink out of my hand, putting his dirty fingers all around the rim. The bar tender came over and started yelling at me. I told them that the receipt showed it was my drink and I had waited so long for it. They responded that they knew it was my drink - then why are you trying to take it off me? I told them my concern about wait time and they just laughed at me and told me that that's just how things are and that I can't just go and grab my own drink. Utter rubbish I've been to many bars and restaurants in Brisbane and have never received such slow and disrespectful service. We had kids sitting at the table and were there for a birthday. To have two fully grown men stand over me, trying to intimidate and belittle me is just sickening. Complained to management and no apology given. They had the audacity to complain about my partner's tone, despite him being calm and much more respectful than the treatment they were giving us. As to the food, it's just a glorified pub. I recommend going elsewhere such as Massimo or Ola. You will receive quality food and staff who actually appreciate your business.

I had a hard cider with it. I'm not sure what kind it was, but it was a dry cider and really good. The fish & chips were a huge portion but really tasty. Not overly greasy and well seasoned. I really wish I had more to say, but this was really well done. I enjoyed sitting on the patio in the wonderful weather that we had that day. You may want to steer clear of the Story Bridge when there are games being played at the Gabba but if you are thirsty before or after a game then you cant beat the vibe created when all the sport fans get together! A great spot for Sunday arvo drinks! You will normally find a more 'mature' crowd than the other Sunday hot spots. It does lack a dance floor for people looking for a big night out but the general atmosphere makes up for it!! A quick mention needs to be made of the Australia Day event the Story Bridge puts on. It is Awesome!! They open up an area towards the other side of Deery's Restaurant and have Cockroach races, live music and a bunch of other Australia Day themed activities and it is great, great fun!!

I've eaten there quite a few times, and although I've never found the steak to be amazing, I've had several other great meals including the lasagne, chicken parmigiana, fish & chips, and (most surprisingly of all), a delicious beef rogan josh curry. The chips are great and all of the meals go perfectly with a jug of beer to share. Afterwards, you can wander into the chaos of the Valley or just pop upstairs to the bar, where you'll be able to grab a cheap drink and watch some live music. They also serve a number of other pub grub type dishes, such as fish and chips, with a few surprise extras thrown in, like the Traditional Irish Stew and Classic Red Thai Chicken Curry. All the food is great value, but nothing beats the legendary steak. The fact that's it's located smack bang in the middle of The Valley on Brunswick Street makes the prices even more amazing. I have never been a big meat eater; when dining out I always choose something else over any slab of meat. My visit to Tempo was the first time I regretted my decision. I chose to have a pizza instead, and while it was good, the steak my friends ordered looked incredibly appetising. But, as they say, it's important to make mistakes in life, as long as you don't repeat them. I definitely won't. Note: the opening hours listed are for the Bistro.
