This place has a few things going for it - mostly its proximity to New Farm Park, which guarantees it a high influx of customers getting take away. It's always pretty busy on weekends or afternoons, and for a standard fish and chip outlet, it's not too bad either.
I've often had the chips from here, which, when asked to be extra crispy, are a great option for picnics or snacks. Recently, I tried a full meal, with fish, calamari, and salad, and was certainly less impressed. I'm a big calamari fan, and when I saw they offered 9 pieces for something like $4.50 I had to go for it. Upon trying it, I realised there was a reason it was so cheap. It's processed, in perfect rings, and just tastes mushy. There was no chewiness or authenticity to them - I would much rather have one or two good calamari rings than a whole lot of bad ones. The fish as well, a piece of snapper, was grey and mushy, with a bit of an odd flavour lingering. The salad was also mostly just hard chunks of feta.
Definitely a good place to check out for a serving of chips, or the shakes, which are pretty solid, but maybe steer clear from the nicer fish and go for whiting or something instead. read more
