I've since become quite a couch potato in recent years, and wanted to get back into training in a safe and sustainable way. I've had too many false starts where I would hop back into a strenuous regime and skip gym days because of extreme soreness or disappointment. The owner, Geoff, convinced me this was the right place. The good: A training paradise. Tons of the best gear, including hard-to-find things like battle ropes and a sled. Never having to fight for space to train. Super knowledgable staff that are just fun to be around. Fun and varied routines that got me back on track and feeling confident by the end of the month. Everything is clean, tidy, odour free. The bad: I can see cost being an issue for some people. I'd suggest talking to the staff to see what works best for your fitness goals.

I've had the privilege of training with Geoff and his great staff at Bang during my time in Toronto and I've definitely noticed some changes in my physical form, energy and mentality. While it wasn't all roses all of the way, they made some great strides over the past year in their staff, facilities and programming. Seriously these guys are ready to rock. I'm happy with the changes I've seen in myself and I'm keen to continue my progress even though sadly I'll be leaving these good people behind. Whereas before I used to bellyache about lifting heavy weights or pushing massive objects I now find myself relishing round after round of sweaty punishment! What makes Bang awesome: 1. People come here to work. There's two main options for gym-goers here: semi-private training under the guidance of several coaches or regularly scheduled classes such as kettle bells or metabolic circuits. Each visit, I see gym goers of all ages strutting their stuff and pushing their limits. Vanity gym bunnies: check your egos at the door. 2. Old school programming. Prowlers, bumper plates, kettlebells...all the good stuff is here. You worried about form? They'll show you the basics and graduate you on to harder exercises along your journey. Long term success is not compromised for short term results. 3. Passionate and down to earth staff. They'll let you know if you can perform that set with a heavier weight. They're concerned about your movement but they also want to see you working to your fullest potential as well. Caveats? There are a couple. The shower and change rooms are small and merely ordinary. In fact, the whole space will come as a let down to anyone used to training in a boutique gym environment. Substance and functionality before style. And yes, it's expensive. Bang is by no means cheap but the prices are reasonable for what you get in return. You could bang it out (no pun intended) on the machines at your local Goodlife but you would not get nearly the amount of personalized attention and advice at this independent outfit. If you're serious about making some gains in your physical fitness, check these guys out!

This is a great gym…read more I'm going to give this place a 4.49/5. Still an awesome gym. I did one of their bootcamp (circuit style) classes and it was a great class (run by Dani). Definitely got my HR up. I also played around with the equipment a bit. All their equipment is amazing. Four squat racks, four lifting platforms, 2 bench press racks (technically 6 if you include the squat racks), farmer walk bars, Assault bike, Assault runner, 2 sleds, lots of dumbbells, battle ropes, plyo boxes, etc. If you know what you're doing, it's a great place to workout. If you don't, the owner (Jason) is very friendly and easygoing and I'm sure he can help you out (so don't be intimidated even though you'll see guy deadlifting 400+ lbs). The turf is also very long and wide, so multiple people can use the turf at the same time. The rates are very reasonable for this type of gym ($45 to $55 depending on your term). So why 4.49 instead of 5? Change room is kind of small and doesn't have showers. But really, you're there to work out, not have a spa day. Would recommend to anyone. They also have very good hours too.

From my past experience with personal trainers, Alan stands out as THE BEST one I've ever had. He took the time to understand my fitness goals and tailored the workouts to meet my personal needs. While we met only once a week for an hour, he kept me accountable throughout the week as I had to take a picture of EVERYTHING I ate and send it to him. He also checked-in with me on my stress levels (where at times, were pretty high), and the amount of sleep I got every night. Because of Alan's holistic approach (physical, nutrition, stress-management, and sleep), what I thought was impossible when we started became a reality almost seven months later as I was able to not only reach my goal weight but GO BEYOND it. YEAAAHH!!! We did it...TOGETHER!! Thanks Alan! Before I trained with Alan for 30 sessions, I also trained with Eric for 10 sessions. Eric was great in making sure the workout/movements/weight-lifting that I did was not causing any physical injury, which is common for any athlete. He also made sure I was feeling the muscle(s) working and wasn't doing the repetitive motion mindlessly--these were lessons that I took with me when I trained with Alan. Although I did not feel Eric was a right fit to help me reach my fitness goals, he is a trainer that I would recommend for someone who is already a personal trainer looking to improve their own training or getting back to working out after an injury. I am grateful for Eric's part of my fitness journey! Lastly, I want to mention the InBody machine at FITting Room Fitness Studio. You stand on the machine and it gives you a breakdown of your muscle, bone, fat, and water weight. You are also able to see your how much muscle you have on your right and left arms, trunk, and legs. The assessment is insightful because you can see the breakdown on how much muscle, bone, and fat you have in your body and how much weight you need to lose and muscles you need to gain. Remember, your weight is more than just a number! When I went on a cruise last year, the fitness guy was promoting the InBody assessment for $149 USD per person but as a discount for attending the fitness seminar it was only $99.99 USD for two people. I am so happy I got to do this assessment MONTHLY for FREE as part of my training. This alone makes FITting Room Fitness Studio stands out as a premier personal training studio. I have always wanted to try Pilates and saw that this gym offered this in addition to spin classes. When I called, the reception was extremely helpful and answered all my questions as someone who had never done Pilates before. There is a lot of parking on site, which is convenient. The gym is very clean inside and the Pilates studio has high ceilings and is spacious. With two young kids, I can't go to every class, but I enjoyed the one class that I attended. It…read moreis big, there's more equipment than the one at the bcc, parking hasn't been an issue yet, there is hot yoga and towel service at this location, the lockers are larger, the women's side is huge and has way more equipment than the one at the bcc, the people are more intense here (that could be good or bad), the gentleman at the front desk was helpful, the lady made me feel stupid for not knowing where anything was even though I told her I'd never been there before. Hot yoga is free for members on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. You need to get a stamp to enter the class so get there a bit early. It wasn't the best hot yoga I've been to. The room is small and the floors are made of mats instead of hardwood. It wasn't as hot as other studios but I was still sweating buckets. I didn't find the teacher was spectacular either, but you get what you pay for. I liked how they had more machines, I didn't find myself waiting for anything. I haven't used the free weights yet, so I'm not sure about that aspect. The mats at the back of the room STINK. Eww wth I have never smelled mats like that before. There is a room on one side for work out classes and another room for spin classes. The showers aren't as new as the one at the Bramalea City Centre and the sauna is older but everything works fine. There are blow driers, cream, shampoo, conditioner, and an ironing board which is standard for any Goodlife. The locker room is very spacious. I only saw two massage chairs here and my boyfriend says they aren't very good. There are so many temptations around here... candies at Giant tiger, Pizza at Dominos, Mcdonalds, the beer store. It's hard to resist. 24 hrs Monday to Thursday. Only open till 6 on Saturday! Booooo.

This location used to be a bar/nightclub called Raxx and that was around six years ago and once that ended the Goodlife gym popped up. I have been going to this gym since May and I really like the place! There is a women's only section with women's only classes and that is where I can be found. I have tried numerous classes including: Newbody (a light intro class that uses light weights to work the entire body) Zumba (Latin inspired dance and fitness) Body Flow (Yoga, Pilates, meditation and my personal fav.) Body Attack (Cardio class) Cardio Blast (Bootcamp style Cardio class..hence the name) Firm Parts (centers around the use of free weights for an entire body workout) Awesome Abs (Short ab workout class) I am still exploring the club and classes, I am very satisfied with the staff and instructors. They are attentive, funny and give everyone the workout that they need. This is a nice gym but ladies can be pigs and sometimes the ladies washrooms are gross... C'mon ladies, clean up after yourselves.
