I'm going to give Kai 5 stars! He's phenomenal, created the perfect new custom orthotics!! I had many issues though getting ahold of anyone- I would have to call multiple times. I left messages and no one ever followed up so that was frustrating coming from out of state for these. I'm hoping that the orthotics last forever, but so far so good! read more

I visited The Fitting Place to find some shoes to use my custom inserts, and for shoes nicer looking than the terrible New Balance orthopedics. I was greeted within seconds by a nice younger gal and we talked a little about what I was looking for. Kye got me into a really nice looking Dr. Comfort pair, and I was lucky he had my size in stock. Nothing but Iowa nice from the 3 employees I encountered. I'm sending back my 2 purchases from orthofeet.com and will visit The fitting Place again because I know I'll get shoes which will relieve my foot pain and receive great customer service. read more

This guy is an artist! I should have reviewed this place a long time ago. I used to get custom inserts here annually, via the VA. I didn't realize what a gem I had until I moved back to San Diego and have tried and failed to find a new place to get comfortable inserts. I tried so many different inserts before and after my ankle surgeries. I have high arches and post surgery one foot that rolls to the outside when I step down. He made me standing molds and at least 7 inserts that he made sure were comfortable before I left. I'm planning a trip to Iowa and I'll be sure inserts while I'm there. Even though I have to pay out of pocket -- that's how much I miss this place. read more

I will never recommend this place to anyone with a foot issue. My husband order a pair of shoes and inserts after having a toe removed. He did receive the shoes and inserts however the inserts are for 2 left feet. We have been waiting 2 months to get the right insert which is the insert he needs. We have been told they have been ordered and no eta. Told they will check and call back and never do. The lady that answers the phone is very rude. The have received their money from the insurance and could care less about getting to the bottom of this. The inserts that came with his shoes are worn out and causing additional problems for his foot. We will never use them again. They do not care about the patient. read more

Dr. Ward from Perry referred me to to you guys to get diabetic shoes. My feet were hurting me with my old shoes but after I got measured and fitted for new shoes down at the fitting place. After about 2 weeks of waiting period I received a call for appointment to get fitting and pick up my new shoes (boots). From the day I got fitted and picked them up I could tell a big difference from walking and feel more stable 100%. Thanks to Dr. Ward and The Fitting Place I feel alot better than I did before. I got my first pair of diabetic shoes there 5 or 6 years ago and had good results and service. The next couple of years, I bought them through my podiatrist. She sold her business and they no longer sell shoes. I was sent back to The Fitting Place. OK, I thought, I know them, have dealt with them and it's fine. The lady there told me I did not qualify, she was not going to deal with me because I was trying to pull something on medicare. I wasn't trying to pull anything, I just needed a new pair of shoes. I didn't get any last year because of covid. She was very rude and wanted me to wait until I had a diabetic sore on my foot that wouldn't heal. Obviously I try to avoid those. That was the reason I got my first pair of shoes. I have recently finished two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of a tiny one on my toe before it got out of control. My doctor said to me "If you don't qualify, I don't have a patient that does." I called my medicare insurance co. and they said I qualified if I'd ever had one of those ulcers, plus I have a balance problem and severe neuropathy, on one leg it goes to just below my knee. I located another company, talked to them, they sent paperwork to my doctor and the following morning, they already had it back and called to set up an appointment to choose the pair I want and be fitted. I will never use The Fitting Place again. I don't normally write reviews like this, but this place was very rude and unprofessional. All their sales people are very helpful and have good knowledge of your needs. High quality New Balance, and Dunham shoes are part of their selection. read more

Please think twice before purchasing your orthodics from this business. My mother ordered her orthodics from Fitting Place starting in July and as of today, Sept. 14 she has still been unable to pick up her purchase or recieve a refund. First the customer service is absoluely appauling. On the phone the staff is rude and unhelpful, when asked to speak to the owner the staff refuses. In person they stated their concern "is not to make the client happy" and "it is not their problem" and "that is our rules". Second the hours are worse than "banker's hours". Their fitters are never in the store and they do not schedule appointments. They do recommend that you call in advance if you are coming on Saturday to confirm that a fitter will be in the store; I called on Tues. and was told both fitters would be in that Sat.; well neither fitter was available. When asked if we could speak to the owner the reply was "we don't call him on Saturdays even if the store was burning down". Even when playing by their rules (they seem to have a lot), they still don't provide the services that they have been paid for. I would love nothing more than to give you, the readers/potential clients, the full story about our trials/tribulations at this store but I don't believe I have enough space available in this review. So Jeff (owner/fitter) we are waiting to hear from you..is this truly how you run your business or is this due to many unfortune events and poor staffing? I agree with Erika-would rather give no star. Jeff told me what was wrong with my foot-sold me expensive shoes-they did not work out. They not only hurt my injured foot but also my foot that was ok before going in. When I called to let him know the issue, he said he was just guessing what was wrong with my foot. I am not very happy that he sold me those shoes with a "guess". He also did not have any suggestions to solve the problem, just wished me luck. An expensive lesson!! read more

I've been using this firm for thirteen years for both custom built orthotics and casual shoes. I've always been treated in a welcoming manner and my issues that I came in with "RESOLVED" to my satisfaction. I was referred to them by a Des Moines licensed podiatrist who advised me to go no where else in Des Moines for remedies to correct ill fitting shoes and or foot discomfort issues, he was absolutely right. I'm a professional rail road freight train conductor and having my feet properly supported in the best industrial work boots that money can buy is absolutely a necessity, the rough and ir-regular sized red granite track ballast that I walk for miles on is about as bad an environment as you'll ever encounter with your feet. When I first met the staff at The Fitting Place I was in a great deal of pain and could barely walk with my sore feet . I would rather give no stars. If you are elderly or working with someone elderly...do not go here!!! They will charge for things they never bought and then blame it on the person being old and confused and fight the credit card complaint. Also, they will not stand behind their product. If the shoes cause problems they were supposed to help solve, they will refuse to replace, refund or work with you. I was in need of an orthopedic insert after an extensive foot bone fusion surgery. The Fitting Place was one of the places my surgeon recommended. I am glad I made the right choice. Friendly, honest small business. Very quick to assist you, knowing how sore and uncomfortable I was, the staff made every effort to set my mind at ease. I came into the store with my dad on the same Saturday that the other lady did with my elderly father and the staff and service was great. They were knowledgeable, very courteous and patient (even with the rude lady and her family). Both ladies were great and handled these people very professionally even though they were yelling, banging on tabletops, sticking fingers in people's and demanding money. I personally would have called the police myself but because they were trying to help they refrained from doing that. My father and I enjoyed our experience with Camerine who fit him perfectly and was still courteous when I went back during the week when there was a store full of people. I went to The Fitting Place because it was recommended to us and I will be a repeat customer. You should go and get your own experience. I asked about custom items myself and was told exactly how the process and it is not hard to understand, the gentleman (2) that do the inlays are there during the week and some Saturdays.
