They take great…read morecare of their residents, and I feel comfortable that my grandmother is being looked after by their employees. Renovations were recently done to the entire building. They also added extra rooms for residents. It's beautiful and looks so much better than it did before. This is a great retirement community and has assisted living along with a nursing home for those that need it. I've also been here for Thanksgiving dinner, and it was so good! They do have a dining room on site for residents.

I can't speak for the assisted living building in the front. That part actually seems pretty nice…read moreand well-maintained. But the memory care unit in the back was bad and I do not recommend it. My elderly father has moderately severe dementia and lived in the memory care facility at Wren Creek Estates for only a few months before we moved him out. I have many complaints about his time there but here are my top few: 1) They were not bathing my dad or changing his clothes on a regular basis. There were a few times I came to visit and he smelled like BO and he was wearing the same dirty clothes from the week before. They took all his personal hygiene items (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash) from his room and rarely brought them back so he could use them. They also were not washing his clothes well, if at all. I'd find dirty, stained clothes hanging up in his closet. 2) My dad is diabetic but they did not adjust his menu for his dietary needs. Also, I question the portion sizes or if he was getting enough food. He lost about 10 lbs while he was there. 3) Residents were left to wander around unwatched and unaccompanied. They were coming into my dad's room, climbing into his bed and under his covers, taking and wearing his clothes. I understand that's part of their mental condition, but the staff seemed to let the residents run loose. 4) Maintenance requests went unanswered for months, if they got fixed at all. His shower was running cold water for over a month before they fixed it. One of the bathroom lights was out and reported several times but never fixed. They didn't adjust the HVAC in his room, so the room was cold in the winter and hot in the summer. 5) The admissions group and administrators lied to my family's faces and overpromised us on the services they offered to get us to move in. Whenever I complained to the administrators about his hygiene, diet, etc., they smiled in my face like Cheshire cats and told me they would handle it but did absolutely nothing. They rarely followed through or did anything they promised. My dad was SO RELIEVED when he moved out and he's so much happier at his new facility. He told me his new place on their WORST day is still BETTER than Wren Creek on their best day. If you're looking for a memory care facility in the Florence area, I would recommend you look elsewhere.

So I put it on yelp so that he cannot delete it. Mama was in there for about 8 months. I went 5 to 6 days a week and stay most of the day. Mama always left the table so I would get her plate and make her eat.. There was other people in there that I would feed because no one else would.. Then I would take some back to their rooms.I had women to ask me to take them to the bathroom and I would tell someone but I took them. It was almost like I had a job there but didn't get paid. Even my family would joke about it. If someone peed on the couch, they would just flip cushions over and over.It was disgusting. There was 2 times that my mom was given her neds twice., she was slumped over in a wheelchair. I walked in and my mama smelled like piss. The hem had come out of her pants and coat and they still put it on her. ,they could have told me and I would have taken it home. She stunk so bad and I was mad. Then I asked where was her teeth. They said in her mouth. I said no they are not. So then they took me to a little room and they had 2 sets of teeth in same jar and asked me was one of those my mamas. I thought you idiots.. Well no one found them but next day they had put some teeth in her mouth. They were very loose and she couldn't eat with them.. One day I went in and mama was crying. I asked mama what is wrong? She said someone took my ring. It was an expensive antique ring,and she said they think I'm so crazy that I didn't know what they did. I made a report but nothing was ever done. When they washed her clothes, they would lose clothes,socks and shoes. Mama loved peppermint and werthers originals so I had a bowl by her bed. Everyday I would fill it up but everyone took the mostly workers.Mama had 2 new outfits and she had new reeboks. Well shoes disappeared first. I put one of the new shirts on her next day and then realized that one whole outfit was gone but no one got them.. At 3:00 one morning they called me to go to Mcleod hospital because mama had fallen and busted her head open which led her to go to hospice. . Doctor said because she hit her head it sped up her death. She fell Sunday morning and was dead by Thursday.When I went back in her room,someone had took new pants and put a size 1 pants in that place. One day a woman looked like she had been beat up. She was black and blue all over. I asked what happened to her? And 2 girls started laughing and said oh she had a little accident. So I noticed that she hadn't been coming to eat for several days and I asked someone why she wasn't eating and they said yea she cannot eat anything. I guess they starved her until she died. She was skin and bones. I said there are 2 people left in the piano room and they have not come to eat. A girl told me well if they are hungry enougj they will come and eat. So I got up and took one to dining hall and then the other one. We were also told that we had to pay a 1500.00 deposit but if we didn't mess up room we would get it back. However when my sister went to get it they said we still owed 180.00 but I don't think we did, but she had to pay that to get back deposit. After she paid that out of mamas account, they said they didn't give back the deposits. We paid extra for them to furnish wipes and depends. However they were always running out. I was told one time to get some from town because they had been out for 5 days. One day 3 women went right out the door when someone came in. They said they were going shopping. But they all stood in parking lot not knowing where to go So I went and got them. Its unreal how sorry this place is. Nasty and don't give a crap. Maybe if it was their relatives they would put more effort into taking care of the patients. This is just a few of the things that happened. I guess we should have sued them for all the crap they put mama through. Please don't put your loved ones in there. Now for the new manager there, you can't delete this review. Deal with it. U don't have 5 stars as u think. I wouldn't even give u 1 star.

My Mom was a resident in the memory care area of Watercrest for several years. I don't have much…read moreto compare to as this was the only facility she was in other than a couple of short term stays in rehabilitation facilities prior to Watercrest. But you really have no way to know if a place is good until your loved one is actually a resident there - and that can be scary. I can only comment on my experience, but here goes... The place is relatively new, very nice and clean. The security in the memory care area is great. The residents have indoor and outdoor areas that are secure - so they can be mobile within the unit, but not get out of the secure area. The staff is what makes this place great though. I believe the staff truly care for the patients and their families. It seems that everyone there is so nice. As I said, my mom was there several years (just before the start of Covid) and so there were many staffing changes. Every new staff member cared about my mom just like the prior staff members. I don't know if they have a pipeline of excellent people or if they teach a culture that provides the results of truly caring. Regardless, it is seen and felt and a blessing during the difficult time of trusting someone else to provide the care your loved one needs. An example of this occurred in January. My mom was all but non verbal at this point. The staff one morning said she just did not seem like herself. Nothing specific was wrong, she was just different than the day before so they wanted her to go to the hospital to be checked out. When you have several patients, I imagine it would be easy to just run through the day and not notice little things like that - but that is not how they treated my mom. They noticed. They were concerned. So they reached out to us and let us know why they were concerned and what they recommended. It turns out my mom did have a medical concern and it was caught early due to the staff paying attention to my mom and recommending a trip to the hospital. We knew my mom would be at Watercrest until her dementia and all the side effects of it eventually took her. She left Watercrest recently upon her passing. So many staff comforted my sister and I. Some prayed with us, some prayed for us. All were amazing. At the end of the day, buildings are nice but the staff is what we loved about Watercrest. As I said, I cannot comment on other places. However, I am well aware that the people here make all the difference. To the Staff: Thank you all for making a very difficult situation for my family as easy as possible for several years. It was much appreciated and we slept well at night knowing how you cared for my mom. God Bless You All and Thank You for the caregiving you do for so many every single day.

My mother-in-law didn't like Wildewood Downs. In any event, the positive did not outweigh the…read moreunpleasant experiences. They never assessed her after discharge from rehab for her next living arrangement, even though they had agreed and we signed for long term care. I just got a call one day saying they had another meeting, without us, and decided among themselves, "We think she can go to assisted living." Recently, the director blamed me for Wildewood's failure to go through the normal process to assess her. Before this, I got a call from the social worker saying that the doctor signed my mother-in-law's annuity paper we gave him, saying she was finished rehab and not a candidate for getting her insurance to pay for Wildewood. I was there when he saw her--for the first time I might add--and all he said, was, "Do you want me to fill this out?" He never assessed or asked any questions about any activities of daily living. During assessment, a patient should be assessed for memory care, long term care or assisted living for example. You just don't say, as the director said, we didn't assess her for assisted living because you told us to keep her in that room. But that was only after they said they didn't have another room. They assessed her when she came in and wrote, and we signed for long term care. When I called Wildewood assisted living, after they called and informed me of a meeting changing their minds. They told me they just have one fee, $7,000 a month, and the client pushes the button when she needs help. So there's no levels of care in assisted living. We quickly transferred my mother-in-law to The Blake after a nurse came from the Blake and we took her to a provider at MUSC to properly assess her. She was appropriate for their assisted living at a higher levelof care than Wildewood. It's a beautiful place and it's very clean, unlike the Wildewood facility. I went in Wildewood's public bathroom and it was dirty. Also, my mother in law's bathroom needed cleaning and straightening up. During her stay at Wildewood, there were multiple problems with communication. Other residents had serious falls right at the desk where they're supposed to be watching them. But they stay on their computers. I learned that the staff is mostly contracted. And they don't communicate with the next person coming in. One day my mother-in-law had an appointment with the optometrist. When it was time to go, the girl at the front desk said, "She's not going anywhere. Her primary care is Dr. Macon while in this unit." I said, "She has an eye appointment." She said, "Oh, she said she has primary care." I told her she has memory problems. But she should have known that. There is no continuity. Well, we paid $12,000 for holding her after rehab for two weeks because they said they didn't have another room to put her in, so I said keep her in that room until I could arrange a transfer out of there. She was staying in a rehab room and not getting rehabilitation. So in essence we paid for rehabilitation she wasn't getting. The doctor gave her 100 days of rehab under Medicare, which would take us into May, but they suddenly cut it short April 24th. When the transport came to pick her up, and our caregiver and my husband, her son, met her, they didn't know she was leaving that day and didn't have any discharge papers ready. Zee, the head nurse, apologized later, as I left the messages with her because I did not know they said somebody else does the discharging. They did get the papers ready quickly, and she got out of there before they charged us one more day. Originally when we got the bill, they charged us for all of May, and for the upcoming month of June, even though she left on May 17th. They changed it but they charged us for April 24th to May 17th.

Every mid- December we have received a form letter stating prices will increase effective January 1st. Everytime I have asked Crystal ( lady in charge of the facility) if the price will keep going up every year and she says she does not for see it ... yet it does keep happening. Literally giving us 2 weeks notice before the monthly price increase. Yet they expected a 30 day notice to move her out. The letter is the same every year the only thing that's changes is the amount that is added. We are moving our Mother out because of this and also the uncaring and very matter-of -fact way management has handle this. The staff is good ... However the management is very misleading. So if you have a set amount of money you can afford DO NOT put a loved one here. They will keep raising the price every year. My mom had been there 3 years and there has been 3 price increase . The first increase only 3 months after me moved her in, and then every December since.
