He fully enjoys her classes and always is impressed at how yummy the recipes are. He space is always so clean and she is very cautious and makes sure to social distance the kids where possible. She has hosted both an adult and kid party for us. We have zero complaints. She truly goes above and beyond. She definitely loves what she does and let's that shine through teaching her classes. Yes, a lot of what I do entails teaching people foods to eat for optimal health, but the actual preparation of the food is a big part of that too. I came to the Zwilling Cooking Studio on behalf of my job, to enhance my cutting skills by taking their "Basic Knife Skills" class. Firstly, the Zwilling Cooking studio is modern and beautiful! There is also plenty of parking. I did not know what I was getting into when I signed up for the course. I didn't even know who Zwilling was before this, so it was a great experience. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the instructor (unfortunately, I forget his name) and assigned to a "station". It was a small class, probably 12-13 people. We worked in groups of 3 on kitchen islands that were set up with a cutting board, a variety of knives, and some food to practice with. The kitchen itself is bright, modern, and spacious. In addition, the placement of the stations allowed for easy viewing of the instructor. Spacing between the kitchen islands and group members felt a little tight at times, but nothing extremely uncomfortable. During the course, we discussed the companies history, the different types of knives on the market, appropriate uses for different types of knives, and how to maintain your knives. We also received some hands-on experience with knife techniques. Among my most favorite, I learned how to properly hold a knife, how to skin a tomato as well as an orange, and how to prepare parsley. At the end, we prepped a small bag of veggies that we were able to take home and use. In terms of service, the instructor was amazing! Very patient and communicative. Throughout the class, he walked around and observed our techniques, then provided feedback accordingly. He also provided a lot of professional insight from his time as a chef, that really put things into perspective. After the class, we had a chance to shop in their store and were offered a discount on regular priced merchandise. They have a great selection of items including an impressive clearance section. I ended up purchasing a steak knife and paring knife at a steal. The only thing I would change about this experience is the communication regarding registration. You can easily sign up using their online portal however, once you sign up, you don't hear anything back. It would be nice to know who the instructor is and perhaps some information on what to wear or rules in the kitchen, in advance. A reminder or confirmation a few days prior would be courteous as well. Perhaps they do this and I did not see anything (?). Not a big deal but a helpful suggestion indeed. Overall, it was a good experience. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking to build their culinary skills, whether professionally or personally. Zwilling offers actual cooking classes, which I think would be more ideal for couples, friends, or families wanting an authentic culinary experience. I will return for one of those, but in the interim I highly recommend visiting.

We started off with a quick lesson about different knives and what they're used for. Then we got to practice on our own. There was enough space and supplies. Everything was clean. I wish we were given more to practice with, especially considering the price ($70 for an hour) but overall it was a good experience and I definitely got more comfortable with knives.

What they do not or won't tell you is that the company that ran the New School Culinary Arts program, Culinary Center of New York, is now running the same cooking and baking classes under its own name. They were supposed to issue a joint press release about the separation but nothing was done. Was it a deliberate ploy to deny the new venture any publicity? Is The New School trying to drive the Culinary Center of New York out of business by misdirecting people? Are New Yorkers to be denied the cooking and baking classes they love and are used to-- same facility, same teachers, same everything?

For $125/person, I had expected better tasting food though. The small appetizers (spinach salad, prosciutto, Parmesan, olives) may have been put together from a grocery store. For the pasta that we rolled out, the staff only added a plain tomato sauce. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy. Tiramisu was all right. We can blame the taste and texture of the pasta on ourselves, because we made it, but I had expected the rest of the food prepared by professionals to be better. No drinks were included -- Healthy Italia is BYOB. There was a nice intro video from the owner telling us about her history and philosophy. She said that she doesn't measure ingredients, and only mixes by feel. How does one teach a cooking class like this? If someone is taking a cooking class, they are less experienced and need precise measurements and instructions. Our flour and water were measured for us, so I guess they do measure something. We were never told the measurements, so didn't have any recipe or any specific learnings to take home. I enjoyed the social time with my group, and especially the long table set out for our group in true Italian fashion. It made us feel like a big cohesive family. However, for $125/person, I felt like we could have had a true learning experience elsewhere or had a much better Italian dinner at a restaurant with drinks. In fact, on the subsequent evening, a few individuals from our group went to a restaurant and ordered similar items served at this cooking class, and the food was remarkably better. And yes, it was less than $125/person with drinks.

Jenna is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and has great tips and tricks for the experienced cook and patience for those of us who struggle to use a stove knob. Her recipes are prepared beforehand based on your tastes and are really healthy, delicious, and easy to prepare. I felt like I was on a cooking show. Her kitchen is professional and well-stocked with tools. She is a great conversationalist and keeps the session moving at the right pace, based on the meals you are preparing. This was worth every penny and I highly recommend Cook Learn Live, and Jenna, specifically.

The class was not only educational, it was a lot of fun, and definitely a great reprieve from my typical Sunday afternoons spent studying in front of a computer. Jenna did a great job of overseeing the prepping and cooking of the four dishes we had on the menu for the night. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to manage a kitchen full of amateur chefs (half of whom rarely cook at home)...but somehow she managed to do it with grace! Jenna was extremely patient with and open to all of our questions as well. In particular, I thought she did a great job of incorporating the 'why' behind her answers to questions like: What ingredients do you always have on hand? How do you know which spices go well together? What goes into a vegetable stock? I really appreciated how Jenna tailored the class specifically for a group of grad students, focusing on: increasing the nutritional value of our meals, saving time in the kitchen, and all the while cutting down on costs. Three things that I know I DEFINITELY need to do more of! I walked away from the class with an arsenal of new cooking tips, a full belly (plus a few containers of leftovers), and a packet of recipes from the class. Three hours very, very well spent!
