I had a private room for my father which was fully furnished with a love seat, his reclining chair and chest of drawers (to name a few items) and there was still room to move about. He was in hospice and the hospice bed is essentially a long twin so that may also be a reason for extra space. I do think a full-size bed will fit nicely as well. There were two closets and a nice size bathroom. The best thing about the room was the window which offered a nice amount of natural light. I chose The Retreat because it was close to family, just ten minutes away from family in any direction. It was clean and the staff seemed nice during the intake process. "We are excited to have Mr. Smith (not his real name) joining us". As I was there preparing the room the staff was talking to me and asking questions about my father and that was nice. I live eight hours from my father and I took time off from work, arranged the facility and then spent the week purchasing everything brand new for his room from furniture to clothes, linens and toiletries. When I left, the room was completely organized and labeled so when he moved in, the room wouldn't feel cold and empty. Fast forward to me receiving a phone call within two days saying they couldn't keep my father because they said he needed care they couldn't give (yet they assessed him) so I had to find another facility and I did. Here is where I have the problem. I rented a U-Haul so my family can pack up my father's things to move to the new facility. The staff at The Retreat threw my father's clothing, sheets, everything into thin white garbage bags and when my family arrived that's how they found his clothes in garbage bags on the floor. The soap and lotion had leaked onto his clothes so much that his clothes were soaked. I received a phone call from my family that there were a few things left at The Retreat so I went to retrieve his belongings. I arrived and told them I was there to pick up the few remaining belongings and the immediate response was "we don't have anything; we don't store anything". I'm thinking why would I have been told otherwise? Finally, they decided to check, it took a few but they came out with the last of his bedding. Everyone, meaning staff, and administration knew my fathers name and they spoke freely saying his name, and not one person asked how my father was doing, just a quick response of what they didn't have, and don't do. Personally, I feel my father wasn't worth their time. He was for monetary purposes, and then it was decided after his assessment and arrival he would be a liability. They called me to find a new facility, threw his belongings in garbage bags and they were done. They can and must do better. Do a better assessment. Do better asking the family if they need help, do better with communication and not pass the buck. Let me be clear, this was my experience, it may not be yours. For me, The Retreat exhibited bad behavior. It's difficult enough to trust your loved one to a facility. The Retreat is worth consideration; the residents seem happy. As for me, if a facility is needed for any other of my family members I'm not recommending it. Note: There is a review on caring.com that has my name attached to it. I did not write that review. It's most likely someone with the same name who had a different experience.

It's appalling. Moving our loved one here was supposed to alleviate the stress of caring for him at home, but it added tons of stress to the situation. And BEWARE their add-on personal service fees. At the assessment they will give you a 'reasonable' figure, but once you are under contract and have moved your loved one in, the personal care fees start climbing and keep climbing and there is nothing you can do about it since it is at their discretion what to charge. We would have saved many thousands of dollars had we moved him into a flat monthly fee facility. We were private pay and spent a jaw-dropping amount of money here for what we observed and documented on our many visits to be shoddy care, especially once our loved one was bedbound. When we could no longer tolerate the conditions at Clare Bridge, we moved our loved one home, but it was too late. He died within a day, malnourished, severely dehydrated, and with bedsores (per the assessment of the Brookdale Hospice nurse who attended him at our home).
