The NHC staff have been the most loving, caring people I could ever hope for. The nurses and CNA's are attentive and work so hard to make each resident safe and comfortable. The food is very good, and the dining room staff is caring and wonderful. I could not be happier.

Upon meeting individuals who are in charge at NHC one would assume they are tender hearted caring individuals. This simply is not the case. Management condones negligent behavior of the staff, simply categorizing it as an "off day." No one here is willing to accept responsibility for their actions or lack there of. There is most definitely no accountability. The administrator patronized my family and I stating that our emotional state was clouding the perception of events. This is laughable and beyond offensive. I walked into my grandmother unresponsive and unattended. Her situation was near fatal. I called an ambulance for her myself after asking the medical staff to do so--no verbal or physical action taken on the staff's part. Unacceptable? Absolutely. Unacceptable to administrators at NHC Greenville? Of course not! The nurse was just having "an off day!" "Off days" are not allowed when lives are at stake! NHC Greenville: hold yourself and your staff to a higher standard. If you are unwilling to hold individuals accountable, you should re-evaluate your own position as management. Anyone reading this: If YOU are considering NHC Greenville for a loved one, ask yourself if you are willing to be fooled by the facade of the administration and the aesthetics of the building in sacrifice of your loved one's mental, physical and possible entire being--meaning DEATH at the staff's ill trained, unresponsive hands! NHC's incompetence and negligence nearly killed my grandmother. Don't let what happened to our family happen to yours or anyone else's.

I went up to check which hospital they had moved him to. I asked a lady at the nurses station and she said I had to ask the nurse, and she pointed her out to me. I walked down to her medicine cart and asked her did she know which hospital they had transferred my uncle to. She said she didn't know, I asked her if patewood kept records? She slammed the drawer on the cart and stormed off down the hall, I stood there wondering what had just happened. I walked down to the nurses station where she was sitting not trying to answer my questions. Another lady was a looking on the computer and told me politely ,St Francis Downtown. after going to check on my uncle at the ER I returned to get his things left behind, I knew he would not come back to this place! The nurse supervisor came out and I told her he would not be returning and I needed to pick up his things from the room. I told her the nurse I tried to get information from surely DIDN'T LIKE HER JOB, and she should consider walking across the street and get a job selling cars, but with her attitude she would probably go hungry.

The last day she was in Heartland, she lay in feces which covered her incision, and was lying in sheets she tried to clean herself with, and the floor and her brief were also soiled for minutesfrom where she tried to make it to the bathroom. The sitter who came on duty at 7am had to go to the desk where her medical person was sitting , three times to ask her to please come attend to her. I hired sitters 24/7, but they would not allow sitters or family to stay with the patient at night. Their policy. They said they checked patients every two hours.Evidently staff on the exiting and arriving shifts had not checked on her as often as they should. The majority of staff were surly, displayed aggravation when asked anything, and made no attempt to introduce themselves or to try to be helpful. The person dispensing meds was talking on a personal phone call and did not answer a light or check on a man who was yelling for help for 20 minutes two rooms down from where she was standing. The valance and curtains were dusty, with dust flying over the room when the window air conditioner came on. The wheelchair she used had one broken leg and a broken brake. It had not been cleaned and had thick collections of grime on metal surfaces. A large styrofoam cup with ice water was given out each shift. No bedside pitcher and you had to ask for more water I cannot believe Medicare allows this place to take patients.

Do NOT choose this facility for your loved one…read more In my opinion, the level of care here is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns. During a five-day stay, my loved one received ZERO physical therapy!! The facility is clearly understaffed--only 2 nurses covering around 24 patients across 2 cottages. At one point, no staff checked on patients the entire time I was there. On another visit, there was only one CNA present. If there had been a fall or fire, no one would have been available. Basic care was lacking. There were no sheets on the bed, the TV didn't work, the chair was torn with exposed foam, which is both unsanitary and unsafe, the toilet was leaking and never  fixed. The room and bathroom were NEVER cleaned the entire five days--no housekeeping at all. They have 2 designated days for showers. Around 7:00 pm we asked if this was going to be done. The nurse said yes. At 11:00 pm my loved one was woken up to take a shower. Who does this to someone??? I also witnessed a patient sitting nude in their room with the door open for an extended period, with no staff addressing the situation. That level of neglect and lack of dignity is deeply concerning. I personally witnessed an EMS arrival where paramedics were walking around trying to find someone just to let them out of the building. That alone says everything about the level of organization and staffing. Another example--my husband arrived and no one let him in. I had to track down a nurse myself to get the door opened. Discharge was handled terribly. My elderly loved one was placed in the hallway with their belongings in a box, waiting all alone for family to arrive. There was NO assistance, NO dignity, and NO concern for a safe transition. There are no RNs on staff, only CNAs and LPNs, and while the nurses are kind, they are extremely overworked--some working from 3 PM to 7 AM. This is not safe for patients or staff. This place feels more like a holding cell than a care / rehabilitation facility--patients are essentially kept there and given three meals a day with little to no real rehabilitation or oversight. I truly feel sorry for patients who don't have family members to advocate for them. For comparison, after transferring to another facility, my loved one had 4 therapy sessions scheduled the 1st day--proving just how inadequate the care was here. Please take the time to read other reviews as well--there is a pattern of similar negative experiences that should not be ignored. There appears to be a pattern of similar concerns in other reviews. I will be reporting this to the SC DEHEC and contacting the insurance provider regarding services billed but not provided. This facility is unacceptable!!!

Because of how their medications are delivered I went without my medication for two days. This drug was for diabetes insipidus, so I dehydrated and became delirious with heart palpitations from the continuous urination. And since these were my first days, I still couldn't walk to the bathroom even though the never provided briefs or a bedside commode. Instead, I was forced to pee in my bed which was never changed. It didn't matter how many times I range for assistance. When they finally got my medications, they got them mixed up with another patient's. There were huge chunks of every day the patients were left to their own devices. All of the nurses and techs would leave twice a day for two hours at a time. If you watched, you would see all of them leave out the back door in a horde. They let me have my own food from home, but they never would fix it for me. Since I couldn't eat what they prepared for me I would ask for a can of soup from my bag. They never would heat for me. They usually gave me a bowl, spoon, and my can. Can unopened, unheated just sitting in front of me. Even though this is called an Acute Rehabilitation Center very little rehabilitation was actually done. I had PT every 3 days. I was only there for a week. When I left, I still could not walk or move my arms. Even so they sent me home because "it was better for my mental health." Nothing was wrong with my mental health. I was happy. I just wasn't home. A year later I'm still having physical problems that should have been addressed then. Like the simple act of rolling over in bed.

I changed her clothes, cleaned her up and when I came back in 2 days she was wearing the same clothes. She had the same socks on for 5 days. They said it wasn't true but I had placed a black dot to identify them. I've complained to the staff , and finally the executive director and she only gets good care when I'm here and watching. When I pressed as to why the care staff wasn't being held accountable , he was beside himself because his regional director will not let him hold his team accountable because they may quit. Even if they are neglecting or committing elder abuse however you wish to view it. When I mentioned that I guess I will file a complaint with SCDHEC.gov the response is it will take them 30 days to investigate and she will be gone by then. I show up at 1pm and she is still in PJ's or the same clothes from the previous day each time. They will only bath her if we ask for it and insist on it. Not only does this facility not invest in quality staff , the place is in complete disrepair. Please do not go through the stress we've been through, chose another place on the east side of town. This is a specialty, large-diameter, rigid gas permeable contact lens that rests only on the white part of your eye, the sclera. Designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the sclera, the scleral lenses can morph an irregular cornea into a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus and other forms of corneal irregularity. The space between the cornea and the back of the scleral lens acts as a fluid reservoir, continuously bathing the cornea. This can provide for a more comfortable fitting. So it was important for me to find a specialist who could properly fit this type of lens. Thankfully, Dr. Joe is just the person to do this! He was able to correct my vision significantly so that I am near 20/20 corrected vision using scleral lenses in both eyes. It is a bit of trial and error to get the right fit, so it takes a few appointments and patience to get there. The practice was really good with the scheduling for the 4 or so appointments it took to get the fit. Each lense is specially made, so they must be ordered and shipped and then fitted. I was very pleased with the service and care provided by Hopkins Eye Center and highly recommend them.
