Highly recommend making reservations since there are only 12 tables at this establishment. The room is clean and well lit. The two owners run the entire place. Becky takes care of the front as server and bar, Dave takes care of the kitchen. The daily menu changes and is on a chalk board. Portions generous and flavorful. Lamb shank was tender and seasoned perfectly and New York Strip cooked to order and well seasoned. Real mashed potatoes and a mix of seasoned vegetables topped off the perfect meal. Wow! We feel like we found a slice of culinary heaven in rural Montana- Two chefs hold down this fantastic foodie fort with an incredibly solid menu of delightful ingredients that you'll savor. Portions are generous and we boxed half our dinners. Hubs had the sesame ginger chicken with a great mix of fresh veggies, as well as an addicting egg roll over fragrant rice. I opted for the stuffed pork lion which was bacon wrapped and had the best reduction sauce. I overheard one of the owners mention she was about to pull brownies out of the oven- I asked for one to take back to our camper van ( did we mention they also feature RV parking with full hookups?! )- The brownie was "beyond" ! My father lives in the area and had been talking to me about this place for at least a year. Raves about the food all the time so when I came home, I told him we had to go check it out. We were not disappointed. My husband originally ordered the Prime rib as my dad had talked it up but unfortunately it was sold out. He ordered the ribeye instead with mashed potatoes. He said it was cooked perfectly and enjoyed the mashed potatoes. My dad ordered the Bourbon pork shank. It was huge and super tasty. The shank was moist and the bourbon glaze was so tasty! A little sweetness with a little crunch. I ordered the special, which was a salmon. It was cooked perfectly with a wonderful crisp on the outside. The seasonal veggies were cooked perfectly and the couscous were very yummy. We had order the portabello mushroom fries as a started. Nice panko like breading with an amazing sauce that was just a little tangy but a slight heat kick. Overall, after all the talk from my father, it lived up to his hype! We look forward to the next time we can come back and try more items. If you are driving by, would highly suggest a stop in at this small, local place. read more

Didn't know what to expect, little restaurant surrounded by fields but the food was amazing and the server was full of spunk. Restaurant seemed to be packed with regulars and the server knew almost everyone by name. No menu, it's on a chalk board and it seems like it changes daily. Husband had the "Peruvian chicken" and it was amazing, full of flavor, I had the southwest cod and loved every bite. Would definitely be a stop when I'm on this side of Montana, come hungry the portions are large. read more

In my experience, The only Philly steak in the entirety of Montana, full stop.That being said, go out of your way to full stop at this oasis of foodie goodness. Other reviewers mention the prime rib, which I didn't try but I'm sure is fantastic given the accolades, but you would think in a haven of free range beef, more establishments would assemble a Philly steak to rival those found in the city of brotherly love. Only the chefs at The Fort have the, ummm, fortitude...to craft a hoagie that stands up to this east coaster's scrutiny. Good bread-check, provolone-check, sautéed onions and peppers-check plus (good look on the addition of banana peppers to kick this dish up a peg!). Honorable mentions to the pulled pork, the fried pickles and fried risotto sides as well as the varied selection of hot sauces in the condiment crate. Did I mention the full bar? Yeah, that... Look, you could throw a rock in any direction in downtown Billings and hit a decent prime rib. Search high and low and you won't find an authentic Philly anywhere but The Fort. Just finished the beef manicotti, simmering ly amazing. Ordered clam shrimp pasta to go for the daughter in law, son and grandson shared fish and chips, everything on point. Convenient stop on our road trip from Montana to Michigan that ended up being our best meal of the trip. The southwestern salad was very fresh and not your average/basic salad. It was healthy, but that didn't get in the way of it having a lot of flavor. I definitely recommend you stop here and give it a try. Also, the prices are very fair and reasonable. Even the tarter sauce was seemingly homemade and the best I've ever tasted. Salads had mixed greens and the dressing was great. We were looking for a place to stop on our road trip from Missoula to Fargo and were very pleasantly surprised to find this friendly spot right off of the highway. We stopped here for breakfast yesterday and were very happy with our choice - great food and service not to mention being conveniently located right off the interstate.
